Jordan Ling Its dark, it’s wet, the festive decorations have been packed away, the dust swept away. We face the month where more people will commit suicide than any other month. Judging by the number of Crème eggs already on sale you would think all we have to keep us happy is lurching from one chocolate wrapped festival to the next. But we, as Christians, celebrate the light – Epiphany; the star. The baptism of Jesus; the Spirit descending like a light. Candlemass – the light has come! Jesus’ birthday is one day and perhaps our barren living rooms and gloomier streets encourages us to think “that was then, 2000 years ago, this is now”. But Jesus is with us, among us, spreading light in our conversations, in our worship. If the rain and gloom make you feel gloomy remember the words of Psalm 72 “May [God’s] rule be refreshing …like showers that water the earth”. Even in the wet we see the provision of God through water for our crops. Lord, in this the darkest of months, may the light of Christ scatter the darkness before us, May the light of Christ Guide us into the ways of peace. Amen Priest-in-Charge of Benefice – Rev.
