The legal stuff...Marriage license applications may be obtained and completed at the Hemphill County Clerk’s Office on the second floor of the courthouse. Both parties must be present to apply for the license, and must have valid government-issued photo identification. A fee of $67 is due at the time of application. There is a mandatory 72-hour waiting period, which can be waived by a County Judge, before a marriage license is valid. The license must be used within 30 days. Couples completing a class offered by Twogether in Texas (www.twogetherintexas.com) qualify for a $60 discount on their marriage license fee and can request the 72-hour waiting period be waived. For more information, call the Hemphill County Clerk’s office at 806-323-6212.
