The city of Lancaster has a rich history

and heritage, with stunning Georgian

and Edwardian architecture of national

importance. Two of its most famous

buildings were given to the city by the

famous local industrialist and philanthropist

Lord Ashton. The Ashton Memorial was

completed in 1909 and opened to the

public just a few weeks before Lancaster

Town Hall.

If you are looking for somewhere unique

and very special to hold your wedding

ceremony, or a venue with a difference for

your reception, make an appointment today

for a tour of our beautiful buildings and to

discuss your individual requirements.

Two venues built by the same local

businessman but each with its own

distinctive features, choose the venue that is

right for your wedding, or why not hold your

ceremony in one and your reception just a

short distance away in its sister venue.

Lancaster Town Hall is a magnificent

building full of history, offering grand and

richly decorated rooms of various sizes,

a magnificent marble staircase perfect

for photographs, a dance floor, bar and

catering facilities – everything you need to

make your day special and unique.

The iconic Ashton Memorial within

Williamson Park is an extremely popular

wedding venue. Williamson Park is set

within 54 acres of beautiful woodland and

the spectacular panoramic views over

Morecambe Bay and the Lake District

provide stunning backdrops for your photos

and for watching the sunset after your

perfect day.

The shton Memorial

The Ashton Memorial is a folly dominating the

Lancaster skyline and is visible for many miles

around. It was commissioned by Lord Ashton as

a tribute to his late wife and was completed in

1909.

With its stunning marble floor, sweeping

staircases and magnificent views, the Ashton

Memorial has become Lancaster’s most exclusive

venue for weddings and civil partnerships. The

large windows allow light to stream in all around

and the grand ceiling has colourful murals

framing a magnificent ornate light fitting.

The wedding party and guests arrive through

the eastern entrance which faces the superb

Edwardian Palm House, home to a collection

of tropical butterflies and plants. Your wedding

ceremony will take place on the ground floor and

you and your guests will also have access to the

architectural splendour and breathtaking scenery

from the first floor viewing gallery.

The photographic opportunities are endless;

with the stunning architecture of the Ashton

Memorial and the park grounds, including a

secluded glade with its own waterfall, a lake

complete with a romantic arched bridge, and the

backdrop of Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland

Fells, you will have an album full of beautiful

images to treasure forever.

After the ceremony

After your ceremony you can celebrate in

style with a champagne reception (please

speak to the Wedding Coordinator for more

information). You could even arrange for a

tour of the tropical Butterfly House for you

and your guests.

For young guests there is plenty of space

outdoors for them to let off steam around

the park and in the play area. The Pavilion

café serves refreshments and the gift shop

has an excellent range of souvenirs. Entrance

tickets are also available from the shop for

the Butterfly House, mini beast cave and

woodland garden .

Why not continue your celebration with us into the night?

Wedding Receptions

The Ashton Memorial makes a truly special

venue for your wedding reception. After your

ceremony we will transform the ground floor

of the Ashton Memorial, and with your chosen

caterers, bar, musicians or entertainment

you can continue to celebrate in style. Our

wedding coordinator works closely with

you in the run up to the big day to ensure

that your wedding reception meets all your

requirements and expectations.

How to book

For more information on booking your

wedding ceremony and/or reception at the

ancaster Town Hall

Lancaster Town Hall is truly a building suited

to a special occasion. From the moment you

enter by the front steps, to the magnificent

white marble staircase where you can pose

for beautiful photographs, its grandeur is

perfect for your wedding day.

The Town Hall is fully licensed to hold civil

wedding ceremonies or partnerships, as well

as wedding receptions. There are rooms of

various styles and sizes to choose from which

can be decorated to your specifications. Our

fully equipped kitchens can be hired out in

conjunction with any of our rooms, and the

choice of caterer is up to you. Our friendly

and efficient staff will be on hand to help

make sure your day goes to plan.

There are a number of magnificent rooms to

choose from in which to hold both your civil

ceremony and your reception:

Council Chamber

A unique and intimate room for your

ceremony; the oak panelled Council

Chamber houses the original Mayor’s

Chair and ornately carved seating dating

from 1909. Arranged in a horseshoe and

consisting of two banks, there is seating for

around 40 people.

The Reception Room and the Banqueting

Room are beautiful oak panelled rooms,

richly decorated and with plenty of natural

light. These rooms can be used for both civil

ceremonies and receptions.

The Banqueting Suite

For a ceremony with a larger audience, or as

a perfect setting for your reception, a solid

oak screen, counterweighted and raised up

into the roof space above, opens up the

Banqueting Room and Reception Room to

create the Banqueting Suite. The suite holds

up to 180 people and can accommodate a

dance floor and bar facility.

The Ashton Hall

A perfect venue for a larger wedding

reception, the Ashton Hall, with its

magnificent pipe organ, was built by Lord

Ashton as a concert hall for the city of

Lancaster.

The hall holds up to 600 people, or 250

dining. It has a sprung dance floor and bar

facility. The stage can be decorated in a

variety of ways, and makes the perfect setting

for the larger, more lavish occasion.

After the ceremony

The Memorial Gardens provide a beautiful

backdrop for your photographs, after which

there are a variety of rooms available for your

wedding reception, accommodating from 50

to 250 people – perfect for celebrating your

special day with family and friends.

How to book

For information on the rooms and facilities

available, including rates, or to arrange a
