Welcome Kindergarten Class of 2016

some fantastic new shelves

to hold all the school library

books. A new borrowing

desk and other features de-

signed to enhance the li-

brary were also installed.

During this term we will pur-

chase a new set of laptops to

be used in the library as

well. We hope to unveil the

library on Grandparents day

later this term when all is

completed. Our thanks to

the P&C for this fantastic

initiative, it is yet another

example of the close rela-

tionship between our school

and the community.

Below: The end of an era.

Old Principal’s residence

demolished.

On behalf of the staff wel-

come back to another ex-

citing year of education at

Wee Waa Public. It promises

to be a positive, busy and we

hope successful year for the

students. The holidays were

a great time of recharging

the batteries as well as an

opportunity for parents to

appreciate the task the

teachers of their children

face for 200 days in the year.

Whenever parents say to me

“thank goodness the holi-

days are over” I smile in-

wardly because raising chil-

dren takes a village. Parents

should not feel alone in the

task and teachers should

feel supported by the com-

munity.

The holidays were a busy

time in the school as the old

Principal residence on the

corner came tumbling down.

The house was in a very

poor state and the engineers

said all the piers under the

house were rotted out,

which was obvious as it

came down in just seconds.

As a community we are go-

ing to decide over the next

few months how to best use

this land as it becomes part

of the school.

There was some less obvious

but very important building

work going on elsewhere in

the school over the last fort-

night. Members of the P&C

Holiday Happenings I want to thank our gen-

eral assistant Francis

Drysdale for the beauti-

ful state of the play-

ground. Is there a

greener paddock of

grass anywhere in the

district? The children

will certainly appreciate

it.

Thanks also to Cliff

Toomey who organised

a great bike safety day

at the school in early

January. There were over

60 children in attendance.

It was terrific to see chil-

dren riding safely around

town in their new helmets.

Shirley Schwager organised

some terrific activities for

the children as part of her

community role with a

highlight being the day trip

to Lightning Ridge Water

Park. As my grandson said,

“the best day ever”.

School Swimming Carnival

Our annual school swimming carnival will be held THIS FRIDAY, 9th February at the Wee

Waa town pool.

All students from Years 3 to 6 must attend. Infants students who are turning 8 this year

are also eligible to attend, however they must be able to confidently swim a whole lap of

the pool.

Students who normally travel to school by bus will be dropped off at the pool. All other

students must make their own way to the pool. Please be there no later than 8.45am.

Everyone will need $2 pool entry fee or their season ticket, swimmers, towel, hat and

sunscreen. If your child would like a lunch order for the carnival please have it to Debbie

no later than Thursday. Orders will be delivered to the pool. The pool canteen will also

be operating on the day.

Students may wear their sports uniforms or house colours. Barwon Green, Gwydir Yel-

Students have entered their chosen events today. Please see the list on the display

board near the canteen if you’d like to see what events your child has entered.

Student Rewards Program

The new school year brings new staff and I want to wel-

come Kim Foley, Madeleine Haywood and Michael Lever

to Wee Waa Public. We sincerely hope they will enjoy a

long and successful time in our school.

Kindergarten – Miss Haywood and Mrs Deacon for term 1

only

Year 1 – Miss Redden

Year 2 – Miss Raymond

Year 3 – Mrs Kelly

Year 4 – Mr Lever

Year 5 – Ms Foley

Year 6 – Mrs Currey

This year Mrs Smith will only teach on Mondays and Tuesdays

and will spend the rest of the week supporting the learning of

the Primary classes and dealing with any emerging behaviour

concerns.

Mrs Lindsay will join us all week this year instead of just 3 days

and will be leading the Infants classes and directing student

improvement programs across the school.

All the support programs that the school offers will commence

over the next few weeks. MultiLit will run daily with Lisa

Pfeffer. The speech program will resume on Monday with Car-

ly Watt and Jenny Carrett. Joan McNamara and Tom Mason

will deliver learning support on a weekly basis. Three of our

classes have School Learning Support Officers with them.

Leanne Combo is assisting in Kindergarten, Tanya Horne in Year

1 and Phillip Doring in Year 4.

Rhiannon Back will provide support across the school, assisting

with teacher release, Science & Technology and Kindergarten.

Attached to the newsletter is a copy of our

student Code of Conduct. Please watch out in

the newsletter over the next few weeks as we

unpack how this works. There will be sets of

schools rules, an explanation of the new col-

our system and information on how the re-

wards program works.

.

Parking Changes For those parents who drive their children to school this

is a reminder that both sides of Cowper St are now par-

allel parking. We encourage parents to drop off their

children in Church St at the designated spot near the

hall. Council will be enforcing the new parking arrange-

ments around the school so please follow the direc-

tions. A hefty parking fine could come the way of any-

one who ignores the road signs.
