Dear Parents,

Staffing News

Through the recent merit selection process and pending the 10 day appeal period, it gives me great pleasure to

announce Mrs Melissa Dunbar has been offered and has accepted the permanent teacher position at Lindsay

Park PS. Mrs Dunbar brings with her a passion and dedication for student learning and a desire for continuous

school improvement. Congratulations, Mrs Dunbar! Also, next week we welcome back Mrs Skye Williams,

who will be working with Miss Thompson on 3/4T. Mrs Williams has been on maternity leave and will resume

her teaching role in a part-time capacity, working Mondays and Tuesdays for the remainder of the year.

Annual School Self-Evaluation A vital element of highly successful schools is the ability to continually reflect and refine what we do, how we do it and the impact on student learning. Every year, we collect and analyse information provided by students, parents and staff through a variety of surveys, assessment data, observations, document analysis and interviews. Thank you to all the families, staff and students who contributed to the recent Tell Them From Me survey. We are now seeking your help with another aspect of our evaluation process. We are undertaking a review of our Learning and Support Team processes. A random selection of students, staff and parents will be interviewed as part of the information collection. Mr McGuire will be roaming in the playground in the mornings next week, looking for parents who are happy to answer a few questions. It will take no more than a few minutes. I thank you in advance for your support with this. The information, analysis and recommendations from all school evaluations will be shared towards the end of the year and will assist in planning for 2017.

School Planning 2017 Utilising the valuable information from our school self-evaluation processes, we will soon embark on the third year of planning in our 3-year planning cycle. Moving into 2017, we will continue to focus on ‘Grow and Change’, ‘Relationships’ and ‘Culture’, through evidence-based, quality pedagogy. The teachers at Lindsay Park PS know their students and how they learn. When it comes to creating classes for 2017, the teachers play a vital role in providing valuable insight gained over the year about how best to meet individual student need. I can assure you that when classes are determined, we take into consideration the learning and wellbeing of each and every student, aligned with whole school priorities. Further to this, we have a thorough transition plan, ensuring vital information is conveyed from one teacher to the next. I can appreciate that some students may become anxious towards the end of the year, and for those students we will develop a personalised transition plan. It is unlikely that we will know the class structures for 2017 before the end of the year, as our enrolments indicate we are very close to forming another class, however this will not be confirmed until next year.

Application for Year 7 Selective High School Placement in 2018 Don’t forget, online applications are currently open for Year 5 students considering Selective High School placement in 2018. Parents can apply online at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement Applications close on 14th November and no late application will be accepted. Information booklets are available from the school office.

Teachers are Learners Too! Over the next 2 weeks, all staff will be refining their skills in providing explicit and timely feedback to students. Teachers will be filming feedback sessions with students, based on the personal writing goals established at the beginning of the term. These sessions will be shared with colleagues and discussion about 5 important questions will take place:

What are you learning? How are you going? How do you know? What do you need to learn next? Who can you go to for help?

Have a wonderful fortnight.

Kind regards, Jacqui Catford

Kindergarten Orientation This week we welcomed our second round of eager children, ready to embark on ‘big school’. The orientation program has been very successful and I would like to thank Mrs Tome, Mrs Cec-chele and Mrs Sernig for coordinating to program, along with our fabulous learning and support officers, Mrs Graovac and Mrs Williams.
