Principal’s Message con nued…..

We have been working hard over the last year to change our reports to reflect feedback from parents about their

usefulness. Earlier this year a sample report was ra fied by the P&C for distribu on for Semester 2. We hope that these will

be more informa ve and will clearly show whether your child is working towards stage level, working at stage level, or

working beyond stage level, without having to si through language that is not always readily understood.

As always, it is our inten on to be responsive to community feedback by improving our current prac ce.

Where has the year gone? One of our class highlights this term has been the Gymnas cs visits over the past 4 weeks.

Students have thoroughly enjoyed our lessons using a variety of equipment including the trampolines, beams, bars and

always a winner, the foam pit! It was impressive to see the improvements of students’ capabili es in such a short me. Mr

O’Hara and Emily did a wonderful job providing us with a variety of ac vi es and lessons to increase our skills and we look

forward to future visits. It was so much fun!

Students are currently enjoying a Science Unit called ‘Push Pull’. Through inves ga ons, students observe and gather

evidence about how these forces act in air and water, and on the ground. Students iden fy the effect of the pull of gravity

and learn that both air and water can 'push'. Students par cipate in a number of hands on experiments to assist with their

understanding of these concepts.

The class has con nued to be super keen Roald Dahl enthusiasts and we are currently enjoying ‘The Witches’. It will be sad

to finish the book as we have felt a part of the story, especially when Mrs McClelland uses her foreign accent for the Grand

High Witch. We are hoping to squeeze another book in before Christmas and the debate is on as to which one to read. It is

looking like we will have to vote!

We have had a fantas c year together and I wish all 2M students the best for Year 3!

Year 6 Canberra Excursion What an amazing week away Year 6 students have just experienced! Students spent a week exploring our na on’s capital

city and all students have said this experience was extremely enjoyable and valuable, and perhaps a li le exhaus ng! In a

very packed i nerary we managed to visit the Museum of Democracy, Old Parliament House, the Electoral Educa on Centre,

Parliament House, The Royal Australian Mint, the Na onal Dinosaur Museum, the High Court, the War Memorial, the

Na onal Capital Exhibi on Centre, Questacon, AIS (Australian Ins tute of Sport), the Na onal Museum of Australia and

Telstra Tower. There is no wonder they all seemed a li le red last week!

The 83 students on the excursion were excellent representa ves of our school and gained so much knowledge from this

excursion. Teachers have also reported they have learned many new facts as a result of the excursion too! Students were

given the opportunity to par cipate in a variety of educa onal programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage

and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the na onal

capital as part of their Civics and Ci zenship educa on. To assist families in mee ng the cost of the excursion

the Australian Government contributes funding of $30 per student under the

Parliament and Civics Educa on .

A huge thanks to Mary O’Connell, James Waters, Wayne Bulmer and Rebecca O’Hara,

who a ended this excursion and gave up a significant amount of their personal me

to give our students this experience. Thank you also to parents who supported this

excursion and allowed your children to come with us for the week.

Cricket Report The Ben Venue Cricket Team travelled to Tenterfield to play their round 7 Quarter Final match in the PSSA Knockout

Compe on last Tuesday November 27 against Kingscliff Public School.

On a warm morning at Shirley Park, Ben Venue Captain Stuart Parsons won the toss and elected to bat. It only took un l the

3rd over for Kingscliff to strike with opener Joe Schmude (1) and Stuart Parsons (0) both out in quick succession. This

brought Cooper Collins to the crease who set about se ling the innings. Shortly a er, opener, Elliot Clarke was run out

leaving Ben Venue at 3 for 24 a er just 7 overs. Collins played well alongside new batsman Ben Higne . Both players played

carefully, hi ng singles and a few boundaries to keep the runs cking over. Collins was eventually caught out for 12 making

the score 4 for 31. Sophie Parsons joined Ben Higne at the crease and gave excellent support as Higne commenced his

onslaught against the Kingscliff bowlers hi ng six 4’s and two huge 6’s on his way to re ring not out on 43. Parsons was

eventually caught from an edge to the slips for 8. Ben Venue’s tail end batsmen were able to hang around and their total

crept slowly to 95 before being all out in the 24th over.

When the Kingscliff innings began Ben Venue struck early with Ben Higne trapping an opener plum LBW in front and

bowling the number 3 batsman as well. This was followed up in the next over with a run out and Kingscliff in trouble at 3 for

13 off 5 overs. Kingscliff then steadied and at the 13th over were 4 for 46. Ben Venue were able to strike back taking a 2

more wickets and keeping the game in the balance with only 5 overs remaining and a score of 6 for 73. Kingscliff were able

to capitalise in these final overs and were able to reach the 96 run target in the second last over.

The best bowlers for Ben Venue were Ben Higne 3 for 13 off 5 overs, Cooper Collins 1 for 14 off 5 overs and Sophie Parsons

0 for 14 off 5.

A huge thank you goes to all the parents for their help and support of the Cricket Team during this season.

Mini Frittatas

serves: 12 | prep: 0:15 | cook 0:30

Ingredients 4 free range eggs

3/4 cup ricotta

3/4 cup (180ml) milk

1/2 cup (40g) tasty cheese, grated. Plus an extra 1/3 cup (35g) to sprinkle over frittatas before baking.

1 x medium leek or 1 x medium onion, finely diced

8 mushrooms, diced

1 cup (90g) breadcrumbs

1 tsp Dijon mustard

6 cherry tomatoes, halved

Method 1. Preheat oven to 200C (180C fan-forced). Grease a 12-hole muffin tray and line each hole with a square of baking paper. Set aside. 2. Place all the ingredients, except the cherry tomatoes, into a large bowl and mix well to combine.

3. Use a 1/4 cup measure to scoop the mixture into the muffin tray. Top each frittata with half a cherry tomato and a sprinkling of tasty cheese. 4. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy-looking on top.

Notes These frittatas are yummy served warm as a snack or perfect served cold in the lunch box.

If you don't have any fresh vegetables that your kids like, you can use frozen peas or corn in this recipe. It's always tricky finding yummy but nutritious snacks to put in the kids' lunch boxes. Jack Coddington, 5/6R

In Week 7 and 8 we are focusing on Resilience as part of the

You Can Do It Program

What is Resilience?

To be able to bounce back from difficult situa ons.

Being able to adapt to unexpected changes.

Top three ps for resilience building:

Children should not worry about what others think of them.

Mistakes are normal on the road to success. Things do not have to be perfect.

Stay posi ve. Do not put yourself down when something goes wrong.
