4th Grade News Important Dates

Please look over the first-quarter goals your child is expected to master that I justreceived from Central Office this week. These are the learning goals that will be re-ported on the first quarter report card. If your child doesnt master a skill, he/shewill be able to prove mastery of these skills until the end of first quarter, October10. Many of these skills can be practiced on Study Island. Passwords were sent homelast week.

When you look at math skills, youll notice that these have been showing up on morn-ing work. We do morning work in addition to regular math lessons. I had hoped to gettodays morning math graded and home today, but itll have to be Monday. Be watch-ing for a progress report on these skills on Monday: rounding, addition, subtraction,factors, multiples, problem solving, and multiplication fact fluency.

Well also had a science test today over soil. We have been studying weathering, ero-sion, deposition, and different types of soil. Weve been doing lots of songs/chantsand experiments. Ask your child about what theyve been doing. :)

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we transition to standards-basedgrading. Next week, youll see progress reports on reading, math, writing, and sci-ence. If I have concerns about your child, I will contact you. If you have concerns,please let me know.

Student Response:This week I found out that my prediction is coming true because Rotten Willyand UpChuck are becoming friends. I can tell they are building a relationship

because UpChuck is asking Willy all kinds of questions about college, and Willyis taking the time to share with him. I think this friendship will continue togrow. I am also wondering if something is going to happen to Tom. The bookmakes me wonder this because it keeps referring to the fact that Tom andUpChuck will be friends FOREVER I am really enjoying this book. It is funnyand the author does a good job of helping me see the story in my head. I cantwait to find out what happens next!
