Dear Parents/Carers,
This week we have really felt the change in the temperature. Our classes have had the
heaters doing their best to keep the children warm and when outside it is great to see so
many children keeping warm, wearing the school anorak.
It is amazing the work being undertaken in our classrooms with the children showing
tremendous enthusiasm in their lessons. The year 3 and 4 grades are really enjoying
the addition of the new laptops that are being used exclusively by their grades. This also
opens up availability of the existing computers and laptops to grades 5 and 6 which will
provide further opportunities.
Our school has again enjoyed sporting success this term. The boy’s soccer won their
game whilst the girls can also hold their heads high, even without a win, due to the
manner in which they played their soccer game. Today our girls also had the opportunity
to show their talents in the next round of the State knockout, playing Orange East and
coming away with the win. What was great during the contest was the fact we played the
game at school on our new surface area. Our children were able to watch their peers and
cheer and support both teams. The girls will now continue through to the next round of
the State wide knockout.
Tomorrow we will have 50 students and two staff involved in a special Lego day that will
see the teachers being trained in robotics lego and its implication in STEM, followed by
the students participating in a range of activities with 130 visiting children from other
schools.
This week we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Tushuizen as she commences her maternity
leave with her first child due to arrive in a matter of weeks. We wish Mrs Tushuizen
and her husband the best over the next period of time as they commence their new
roles as parents. 5 Violet will have Miss Chalker teaching them until the end of term 2
when Mrs O’Brien commences taking the class through to the end of the year.
Book Club closes 14th June
This week the school is very excited to announce that we will be looking to host 20 primary school students from
China between the dates of the 3rd of August through to the 10th of August. This seven day experience will see the
students attend our school and participate in classes and gain an appreciation of the Australian lifestyle and our
processes at Orange Public School. Our school was selected which is a real honour and we see such value in being
involved bringing children from around the world together. It is such a unique opportunity for our children to be
involved in such cultural diversity, we are very keen to offer families the chance to assist in the program by offering
billeting to the children. We will be looking for families to agree to take one or two students into their homes for the
week and include them in their day to day lives that they currently have their own children exposed to. The children
will arrive on the Saturday afternoon and leave the following Saturday. A note will be going out today with an
expression of interest that we would greatly appreciate returned by Friday.
This weekend is the June Long Weekend and as such children are to return to
school on Tuesday next week. Over the weekend Ella Parry Jones will be losing
her hair to Cancer research and we wish her every success in her endeavours of
supporting such a worthy cause.
Next week, we will see 14 students attend the Western Cross Country in Geurie and we wish them the very best of
luck for the event. All children have been training and we are looking forward to hearing of some great results.
Lastly I would like to thank all the students and staff who over the last 3 weeks have been completing assessment
tasks in readiness for the reporting period. All teachers are now commencing report writing and school reports will
be distributed on Tuesday the 2nd of July in week 10.
Enjoy the week and the long weekend.
