Move In Construction
• The Texas Department of Transportation will be doing
construction on Aquarena Springs Dr to build an

the summer for updates on the construction and the
best travel directions.

Getting Settled
Communication
• Guide your student to take the first step in addressing
the situation with their roommate. It may be something
very simple that can easily be resolved, or it may be an
issue on which they have to work together.
• When they need help, they can get assistance before the
problem becomes out of hand. Their resident assistant
and residence director are happy to help.
Parent Communication
• We encourage you to be a coach, rather than trying to
solve your student’s problems.
• The DHRL is here to help you! View our website often
for the latest news, so you can be a resource when your
student needs you.
• Encourage your student to start a chain of
communication will their new roommate.
Maintenance Needs
• Please encourage you student to use a work order
request if they have a maintenance concern in their
assigned room or apartment.
• Emergencies (no air-conditioning, no water, broken
locks, etc.) should also be reported to the RD.
Renters Insurance
Renters Insurance
• You are strongly encouraged to secure renters
insurance. The university or DHRL will not be held
responsible for any damages or losses that may occur
while living on campus.
• We have information from NSSI or Allianz, two
reputable companies to protect your student and their
property!
Fall 2016
Life On Campus
• It’s hard to image but, it is time to think about the
2016-17 year! Students who want to reside on campus
their 2nd year will need to sign a housing contract
beginning late October.
• Not everyone can come back and live on campus, so it
is important to visit our website for up-to-date
information on this process.
Life Off Campus
• After students have full-filled the academic year housing contract, they are eligible to live off campus.
• ACT is a collaborative effort between Texas State and the City of San Marcos to educate residents about making this a great community in which to live.
Housing Questions
Are the floors separated by
gender? • Traditional Halls are separated single gender by floor.
• Suite Style Halls are separated single gender by suite,
coed by floor.
• Bobcat Village is separated single gender by apartment.
Can we leave my student’s
belongings over the break? • Students must sign up to remain on campus during the
break periods. Information will be posted on our website
on when and how to sign up.
• Students can sign up to stay during Thanksgiving break &
Spring break at no charge (if before the sign up deadline).
• During Winter break, students are expected to leave unless
they sign up to stay in the designated Winter break housing
halls.
– There is a cost per night for Winter break housing.
What about the laundry
facilities? • The cost of laundry is built into the cost of housing, so
all they need to bring is their dirty clothes and High
Efficiency laundry detergent.
Can we tour the halls?
• Unfortunately halls are closed during the summer for
renovations or for summer camp use.
