My dear Parishioners,

This Sunday we take time to honor six couples of our parish

who are celebrating significant wedding anniversaries dur-

ing this year of 2017. It is not only fitting, it is right and just

that we do so certainly for them but also for the rest of us.

Together, these six couples—Louise and Benjamin Lynch,

sixty years married; Miriam and James Stokes, fifty-five

years, Faye and Gerald Merriweather, forty years; Felicia

and Thomas Donald, thirty-five years; Bernestine and Mer-

lin Todd, twenty-five years; and Elena and James Fowlkes,

ten years—have contributed 225 years of commitment to

one another, to their God, and to all of us. This is no small

offering in the world in which we live today and in a Church

that exists simply because of its own covenant relationship

with its God. Christian marriage is a most sacred sign of

God’s relationship with his people and of Christ’s relation-

ship with the Church. A powerful reminder of Divine love!

bv

The witness of day-in-and-day-out living of couples

through thick and thin, or, as the marriage consent states so

beautifully and powerfully, “...in good times and in bad, in

sickness and health, to love you and honor you all the days

of my life,” strengthens and encourages all of us to remain

faithful to our God and to one another whatever our voca-

tion in life. May God grant our celebrating couples many

more years of life together in peace and joy and love!

tros, “Nuestra Familia, Nuestra Fe , Nuestro Futuro” .
