In our parish’s 100-year history, many priests and religious women came to serve the community, and some of our own have responded to the call to serve God’s people (Msgr. Pat Browne, Fr. Dave Mercer, etc.). Let us continue pray that more young people respond to God’s call to religious life and priestly ministry. Mark your calendar, come join us at our Centennial Parish Picnic from 10am to 2pm, Satur-day, June 18, on our school campus. There will be food, games and entertainment for everybody. Jubilee Year of Mercy
TRUE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us in today's scripture readings? Com-munities of believers everywhere would support and encourage one another and be identified as Christians by the way they love each other. It would be a world with no tears, no death and mourning, no crying out in pain. "Behold, I make all things new," we hear the Son of God say in the second read-ing from the book of Revelation (21:5). Is this world of John's vision only imaginary? Are these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a savior's dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. VERDADERA COMUNIDAD CRISTIANA ¿Te puedes imaginar un mundo tal como nos lo presenta las lecturas bíblicas de hoy? Comunidades de fieles por todas partes que se apoyan y se animan unas a otras y se iden-tifican como cristianos por el amor que se tienen unos a otros. Sería un mundo sin lágri-mas, sin muerte ni luto, sin gritos de dolor. "Ahora todo lo hago nuevo", oímos decir al Hijo de Dios en la segunda lectura del libro del Apocalipsis (21:5). Este mundo de la visión de Juan, ¿es sólo un mundo imaginario? Y esos fieles seguidores de Jesús por los cuales él reza, ¿son un mero sueño del salvador? “Các Bạn Không Cô Độc!”
Vào ngày thứ Bảy, 16 tháng 4 vừa qua, ĐTC Phanxicô đã viếng thăm đảo Lesbos trong vòng chưa đầy năm tiếng đồng hồ, nhưng đã gây tiếng vang lớn trên thế giới. Đảo Lesbos - gần Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ nhưng thuộc nước Hy Lạp – là nơi giam giữ trên 3,000 người tị nạn mà hầu hết là từ Syria, nơi đang có cuộc nội chiến đẫm máu đã năm năm nay. Cùng đến Lesbos với ĐTC còn có Thượng Phụ Chính Thống Giáo Bartholomew I của Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ và TGM Chính Thống Jerome từ thủ đô Hy Lạp. ĐTC nói với dân tị nạn,: “Tôi đến đây để nói với các bạn: các bạn không cô độc.” ĐTC tuyên bố rằng ngài đến đảo này để kêu gọi thế giới chú ý đến thảm họa trầm trọng nơi đây và kêu gọi tìm một giải pháp. Ngài hy vọng thế giới chú ý đến cảnh tượng thương tâm và tuyệt vọng của dân tị nạn và đáp trả lại một cách xứng đáng với những người cùng thuộc về gia đình nhân loại. ĐTC cũng ca ngợi dân Hy Lạp đã ra tay giúp đỡ những người cùng khốn này dù rằng chính họ cũng đang trải qua một khủng hoảng về kinh tế. Nhưng theo một thoả thuận gần đây giữa Liên hiệp Âu châu và Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ, những người này có thể bị trả ngược về Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ. Trước khi rời đảo Lesbos, ĐTC Phanxicô đã cho 12 người dân tị nạn từ Syria thuộc ba gia đình khác nhau lên máy bay để sang định cư tại Roma. Ngài nói rằng họ là những người khách của Vatican. Báo The Guardian nói rằng trong trường hợp này, “một hình ảnh có giá trị hơn cả ngàn lời nói, và thật là một hình ảnh (gây ấn tượng mạnh mẽ nơi) chúng ta: một đám đàn ông, đàn bà và con nít, vui mừng và nhẹ nhõm, với một số bum khăn, một số mặc quần jeans, một số mặc áo sơ-mi, hướng về một đời sống mới nhờ ở một người đứng đầu Vatican; một cuộc sống đầy hứa hẹn, đầy ngạc nhiên và hồi hộp đã bắt đầu từ bờ biển bao quanh hòn đảo Hy Lạp này.” ĐTC Phanxicô còn cho các phóng viên xem hai bức tranh do trẻ con tại trại tị nạn vẽ và trao tặng ngài. Một tấm diễn tả trẻ em chết chìm ở biển. Còn tấm kia vẽ hình mặt trời đang chảy nước mắt. ĐTC nói: “Trẻ con mang những ý nghĩ này trong đầu, và sẽ phải mất nhiều thời gian để chúng có thể quên đi. Nếu mặt trời có thể khóc, chúng ta cũng khóc.” Theo ông Charles Camosy, giáo sư luân lý Kitô giáo tại viện đại học Fordham ở New York, “đón tiếp người lạ là một điều thuộc về trọng tâm của sứ điệp Kitô giáo.” Cũng theo ông, người ta thường cho rằng ĐTC Phanxicô là một vị giáo hoàng cấp tiến, nhưng ngài cũng cố gắng giúp người ta biết một Kitô giáo theo truyền thống thực sự là gì. Khi mới kế vị Thánh Phêrô vào năm 2013, trong chuyến đi đầu tiên với cương v ị giáo hoàng, ĐTC Phanxicô đã đến đảo Lampedusa thuộc nước Ý để gây chú ý đến người tị nạn cập bến từ nước Lybia. - Tin tổng hợp

A Way Back Home April 17-21, 2016 St. Francis Retreat Center A Guided Journey of Reckoning and Reconciliation between Veterans and Civilians for the Healing of Moral and Ethical Injury Associated with Post Traumatic Soul Disorder.
