Welcome to Our Sanctuary Rules of Attendance
We need everyone to do their part of this mitzvah of protecting one another from possible expo-sure. No one is exempt. Please do not choose for yourself if the rules apply; they do. If you can-not comply with the policies, please continue to join us through our live streaming on the Temple
Israel website. www.tiflorida.org
If you have had symptoms or been near someone with symptoms, please stay home and seek treatment as necessary.
If you are immunocompromised, please stay home as well.
Everyone must properly wear a mask covering their nose and mouth at all times while at Temple Israel.
Everyone will have their temperature checked at the door.
Please maintain social distance at all times.
If you use the bathroom, please use a paper towel to touch any fixtures.
Please take a kippah from the labeled container and return to the second one.
Pews are marked for the different days of services.
Only those who live at the same address may sit in the same pew together.
Only use books from that pew and return them there as well.
Please refrain from shaking hands, hugging each other or other contact.
Those called to the bimah must use sanitizer before going up and after coming down.
Please follow all additional instructions when on the bimah.
We will not be having oneg or kiddush meals.
Please be patient as we implement these policies and continue to adapt to the
situation.
It will be wonderful to be together again and to fill our sanctuary with the sound of prayer, Torah and community. Please work with us so we can keep our doors as open as
our hearts.
Shabbat Shalom
Rabbi Joshua Neely

I always wondered if the Israelites felt like they had been conned. They sign up to follow God, who has just freed them after all, get 10 pretty straightforward commandments, and then for the rest of the time in the
desert get more all the time. A whole slew of them, 613 in total. Isn’t that more than we bargained for? After all, I can see why God wants us to worship Him exclusively, but is it any of God’s business how I conduct my business-business? If I make a loan to someone and take the only item they own worth anything as collateral, why should God care if I give it back or not? Sure, it’s their only way to stay warm at night, but that’s not my problem and they knew it when they made the deal. If someone breaks into my house, why should God care if it is day or night when I attack the intruder? It’s my house and my property that I am defending. I may be able to clearly see in the daylight that the robber is unarmed and trying to flee, but he is on my property; I should be able to kill him no matter what. And isn’t God being a bit naive when He says I shouldn’t show favor to the rich or powerful in any court cases? And the less said about this milk and meat business the better. Actually, it is God’s business. Religion, despite modern caricatures and post-Enlightenment shrinkage, should blanket life. Our actions can be sacred and the Torah demands that they be so. We don’t get to decide where there shouldn’t be any divine oversight. We know too well from history that lack of accountability inevitably leads to not only corruption but suffering. Read these varied rules and regulations not as an intrusion but as opportunities to embrace holiness. L’Shalom Rabbi Joshua Neely

We will provide a handout with the reading of the day. Morning Spark will be livestreamed from the Savage Family Chapel.

Join Penelope Neely for an in-person,
socially-distanced Tot Shabbat at 11 am at
Temple Israel!
Tot Shabbat is a joyful and engaging program
geared toward families with young children, ages 5
and under (older siblings are welcome too). This 45
-minute program includes Shabbat themed songs,
stories, a Torah parade, simple blessings, and
snacks too!
Meet other families with small children as we
celebrate Shabbat with the youngest members of
our community! All are welcome, and temple
membership is not required. Afterwards, you are
welcome to join the congregation for the remainder
of the morning service in the Sanctuary.
To ensure a safe environment we will be limiting the number of family groups in
attendance. Masks will be required for everyone age 3 and above. It is vital that you
RSVP to Penelope Neely at [email protected] with the number of people
in your family group by the Wednesday before. We will provide more detailed
safety instructions to those who RSVP.
Hot Microphone! Judaism tells us life and death are in the power of
speech. This has always been true and is doubly so in
the current world of technology where statements can
be captured and spread endlessly around the world. As
we have wired our sanctuary and chapel for livestream-
ing, please remember that what you say in those spaces may be
heard by others near and far. It is good practice for control-
ling our speech at all times.

B’yachad – Together
This 2020-2021 Torah Fund theme is somewhat ironic and profoundly appropriate for this
year. More than ever, we need to work together even as we are physically distant!
The pandemic has upended our usual start to the campaign. Our thank you gift, the new pin,
is stuck in the mail room of JTS. But that does not mean that your pledges are not needed or
that they will not be appreciated and appropriately recognized.
The process has changed for this year but the need is more vital than ever. As we wonder
what the future of Conservative/Masorti Judaism will look like, we know that we will be
depending on the innovation, creativity and insights of our Rabbis, Cantors, educators and
leaders. Now, more than ever, your support of their education is imperative.
Please join me in supporting the men and women in our 5 seminaries –
Jewish Theological Seminary – New York, NY
Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies – Los Angeles, CA
Schechter Institutes – Jerusalem, Israel
Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano – Buenos Aires, Argentina
Zacharias Frankel Rabbinical College – Potsdam, Germany
You can become a benefactor ($180 pledge), guardian ($300 pledge) or more and receive a
thank you pin as soon as they are available. Your pledge can be paid in installments, over the
course of the fiscal year, with the last payment needed by June 30, 2021. You can send Torah
Fund cards ($5 includes postage!). You can make a contribution of any amount!
How can YOU be part of this campaign? There are several ways!
Send your check, payable to TORAH FUND, to Cathy Swerdlow
115 E Wyndham Court Longwood FL 32779
Make an online contribution at Torah Fund. Be sure to indicate the name of our Sisterhood
when prompted!
Make a transfer of stock or distribution from your charitable donor-advised fund –
