  • OPEN ITS COPENHAGEN ARCHITECTURE

    • Preventing that the city is blocked by a vendor lock-in or by the costs that come with scaling up.

    • Designed to be able to keep on building and including new and promising ideas and technologies.

    • Three forms of openness are required, i.e.:

    • technical (modular, open interfaces)

    • operational openness (easy to use, transparent no hidden costs)

    • open data (a stimulation for innovation in itself)

  • DATA NEEDED FOR OPERATIVE TRAFFICMANAGEMENT, PLEASE!

    • Travel time for cars, bussesand cyclists

    • Number of stops for carsand cyclists

    • Travel time reliability for busses and cars

    • Time pedestrians have for crossing the intersections

  • EASY ACCESS TO CAR DATA

  • …BUS OPERATOR IS NOT A DATA PROVIDER

  • …AND DATA FOR BIKES AND PEDESTRIANS

  • CHALLENGE: REAL-TIME DATA FOR NETWORK MANAGEMENT ON BICYCLE CORRIDORS AND HOT SPOTS ON PEDESTRIANS…

    • GPS from bikes avaiable by GoBike(provider of shared bicycle service in Copenhagen)

    • GoBike provided access to data

    • 1 month: 130K trips

    • 100+ stations

    • trip-based:

  • …NEED A DIFFERENT APPROACH ON HOW TO GET BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN DATA FOR OPERATIVE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

    • Given that bicycle travel time is largely determined by:• Individual target speed

    • Traffic lights

    • .. we can closely approximate travel time with a Monte Carlo simulation using:• actual traffic light phases

    • actual bicycle volume (counts)

    • .. in order to:• inform traffic operator

    • communicate to cyclists (VMS)

  • The Swedish Road Authority, The Danish Road AuthorityStochholms StadCity of Copenhagen

  • COOPERATION WITH DIFFERENT VENDORS

    • Using RSMP as the main component for connecting equipment to traffic management platform

    • European standards within ITS

    • Using existing network and data in new ways

    • Open project up for new vendors

    • Development of RSMP protocol to match need of the city

Interlinking business models by interlinking workflows

  • CREATE CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVEMENTS BY USING AND REUSING DATA IN NEW WAYS
