Median street planting - Concept Plan Possible location for tree after taking

driveways, powerlines and intersections into consideration

Proposed tree

Page 5: Wellington St Upgrade

Japanese Zelkova Zelkova serrata

This is the tree in the street currently. A medium sized flowering deciduous tree. This is a good street and shade tree that has an appealing vase-shaped form with a rounded crown. It is tolerant to drought and air pollution, and is a nice option for a variety of urban locations.

Spotted GumCorymbia maculata

A consistent, no fuss native tree. These flowering natives grow straight which trees in the median are require to do. A medium to tall robust tree which grows quite fast. The crown is rounded and spreading, with a moderately dense canopy.

Chinese Elm - UprightUlmus parvifolia

An evergreen to semi-evergreen medium sized flowering tree. It has a moderate growth rate, broad and irregular crown with graceful, twisted branches. The canopy is low density and very open. These will perform well in the conditions are currently not effected by elm leaf beetle or fruit borer.

Street profiles

Testing a dedicated bike lane

A dedicated bike lane along Wellington St is deemed not to be feasible. After applying minimum widths to the traffic lanes, parking spaces and central median, the resulting cycle lane is only 1.0m wide. This is an unsafe width for a cycle lane as it forces cyclists to ride in the car door zone and does not allow safe overtaking.

Proposed profile

The proposed profile:• Increases the central median enabling the establishment of trees

while improving pedestrian safety and access.• Decreases the width of traffic lanes helping to slow traffic.

Kerb extension - Concept Plan

Benefits of Kerb extension:• Reduce speed of turning traffic• Reduce pedestrian crossing distance• Improves pedestrian sight-lines• Provides opportunists for additional planting Proposed kerb extension

Example: Bridport St and Madden St,

Albert Park
