COUNCILLORS TACKLING LOCAL ISSUES Local Liberal Democrat councillors Julia Davidson and Darren Fower have

been tackling a number of issues related to anti-social behaviour, traffic and

parking over the summer months. At a recent ‘police panel’ meeting Julia persuaded the police to treat as a priority

concerns that have been raised by residents in and around Ainsdale Drive relating

to the use of ‘mini motos’ and other anti-social behaviour.

Darren also highlighted the issue with the police who told him "The local team is

aware of the issues and is regularly visiting to monitor the situation.”

If you do see any anti-social behaviour taking place – here

or anywhere else – please report it to the local police by

calling 101.

Meanwhile police are also looking into a spate of anti-

social behaviour around Cuckoos Hollow, including

damage to trees and signage. Julia says that the police have

two suspects and are monitoring the situation.

Gunthorpe Road The problem of drivers parking inconsiderately in

Gunthorpe Road has been raised by residents with both

Julia and Darren recently.

It seems that the parking space for the shop, near the pub, is being used by some

parents dropping off or collecting children from the school. In addition, a handful

of drivers are ignoring the road markings and parking where they should not.

Darren and Julia have now paid the site a visit and spoken with local businesses

as well as residents.

Darren said: "I hope that one day we can have a zebra crossing outside Norwood

School but the reality is that this costs money.”

Lincoln Road Meanwhile, Darren has been contacted by residents in Lincoln Road, north of the

Cock Inn, about their concerns regarding a handful of cars parking on the verges,

causing a reduction in visibility when people exit their own driveways.

Darren said: “The residents tell me the problem is only due to a couple of

properties. They think that as each home has a driveway for parking then it should

be used and cars should not be left for days at a time on the road.

“The old Lincoln Road can sometimes be busy and, although there are speed

activated signs there, some drivers still speed along this stretch and hence visibility

when exiting your property is important.”

Darren has now contacted the city council to see what the present rules and

regulations are for this stretch of road and is also keen to hear thoughts and

opinions from other residents.

GROWING WILD Local lib Dem councillor Darren

Fower has been contacted by a

resident in Helmsdale Gardens

about grass areas being left

overgrown by the city council which

has resulted in increased litter. Darren said: "The Tory-controlled

city council decided last year to flog off

such maintenance services to a private

company. Which, in my opinion,

pretends it can do the same job 25 per

cent cheaper than the council but in

reality it can't!"

Both Darren and Cllr Julia Davidson

have now visited the area and reported

the issues to the Town Hall.

KEEP IN TOUCH Local Liberal Democrat councillors

Darren Fower and Julia Davidson use

a number of methods to keep in touch

with residents. As well reading the regular FOCUS

newsletters you can follow their activities

via the Liberal Democrat ward website at

www.campaigns.libdems.org.uk/SWN, on

YouTube, on Facebook and on Twitter (see

pictures for links).

If you need to contact them you can do so

through the website or Facebook, you can

email them directly, write to them, test

them or telephone (see front page for

contact details).

Or you can come along to their

‘surgeries’ which are held on the first

Friday of the month between 6-7 pm at the

Werrington Village Centre, Church Street,

Werrington and on the third Friday of the

month between 6-7 pm at the Brookside

Methodist Church, Gunthorpe Road.

MONEY TO SPEND Local Liberal Democrat councillors Darren Fower and Julia Davidson

have money available from the council’s Community Leadership Fund

to support local good causes. Darren said: “Do you have an idea for improving your area or street at a

cost of say a few hundred pounds? Perhaps you are part of a club that needs a

little funding for a project or scheme? If so, then contact either Julia or me

and see whether you can get a few quid from the fund. It is YOUR money

and all we need are YOUR ideas!"

JULIA SAYS ‘THANKS’ The council elections in May in South Werrington and North

Gunthorpe saw Liberal Democrat candidate Julia Davidson elected as

councillor for this area to serve alongside Darren Fower. Julia defeated the incumbent Tory

councillor by 50 votes, pushing the Lib

Dem share of the vote up by 3.4 per

cent compared to last year.

She now joins Darren Fower as a Lib

Dem councillor for this ward. Both of

them will be working and campaigning

to be sure that Werrington and

Gunthorpe get the council facilities and

services they deserve.

Julia said: “I want to thank everyone

who voted for me and all the people

who helped with my campaign –

especially our volunteer band of

FOCUS deliverers.

“I am delighted to be working

alongside Darren in representing the

area where I live.”

The South Werrington ward election results in full were:

Julia Davidson, Liberal Democrat FOCUS Team – 812 votes

Colin Burton, Conservative – 762 votes

Scott Johnson, Labour – 347 votes

Liberal Democrats had a successful election night in Peterborough as a

whole. There are now four Liberal Democrat councillors but the Tories still

run the council – although with a reduced majority.
