The NJSIAA Gr. II South Jersey Football Championship game will be held Sunday, December 3, 

2017, beginning 11 AM at Rowan University. Our West Deptford Eagles will take on 

Haddonfield for the State Championship.

GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM NEWS:  Students took a tour of University of Delaware this week and participated in a workshop on college planning and the admissions process.  We all agreed it is a very beautiful and impressive campus!  

                

 SCIENCE ASSESSMENT NEWS:  ATTENTION ALL 11th Grade Students and Parents:  The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) completed the state‐required procurement process for the new science assessments that will be administered this school year. Similar to the statewide PARCC ELA and Mathematics assessments that New Jersey already administers, the NJSLA‐S (NJ Student Learning Assessment for Science) will be administered during a specific testing window – May 7th through June 8th – and will be strictly computer‐based.  All students in 11th grade will take this assessment over the course of two days; as time draws nearer, those exact dates will be provided for this assessment.   Please refer to the table below that indicates the number of minutes spent on each of the four science units.

DECA Needs Your Help!!!   

We are in need of judges at New Jersey DECA’s Southern Blue Regional Competition on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.  Each year the members of the various High Business Education Programs across the state of New Jersey participate in a Regional DECA competition.  DECA provides an opportunity for students to compete in a variety of business fields.  The areas of competition include, but are not limited to: Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Food Services, Fashion Merchandising and Financial Services.  In order to offer this unique opportunity to our students, we are in need of professionals who would 

be willing to serve as judges.  This year, the Regional Competition will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill on January 9th from 7:45 AM until 2:30 PM.   If you have never had the experience of serving as a judge for one of our conferences, you will be instructed upon arrival of your specific directions.  In short, you will be listening to students present their marketing ideas on various business situations, and then you will be asked to score the students out of 100 points.  Assistance will be provided to you throughout the day with any questions you would have.    If you are willing to participate, please visit the following link:https://sites.google.com/monroetwp.k12.nj.us/decajudge

   KEY CLUB NEWS:  This is a busy week for Key Club as we prepare for Operation Blessing. Non‐perishable food donations are still needed. Donations may be dropped off in the WDHS main lobby through December 6th. Thank you for your generosity! 

 On Tuesday 11/28 Key Club members made close to 100 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless. The following students participated: Jasmine Tamous, Kaitlyny Naphys, Alexis Gulisano, Antionette Raso, Vittoria Gambino, Justin Cairns, Taylor Fanslau, Chris Cori, Katie Lee and Sreeram Mandava. Thank you to Mrs. Herbst for her time and the use of her kitchen.  On Thursday 11/30 WDHS Key Club served up hope, smiles, and 391 hot meals to those in 

need at Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. The following Key Clubbers participated: Lindsay Barney, Julianna Stauffer, Niccolas Uff, Kaleigh Lange, Matthew Wilson, Brad Schultes, Jared Schultes, Hannah Phifer, Justin Hahn, Katherine Wilson and Vishwa Patel.    

           

   

RENAISSANCE CLUB NEWS: Chick‐fil‐A Calendars on Sale NOW!! Need a holiday gift for people at work? A simple holiday thank you for the mailman, bus driver or favorite teacher? A Pollyanna gift that has to suit everyone? Or just an extra gift to have.... just in case??? Renaissance Club has got it covered! For only $10 you can have a 2018 Calendar featuring the Chick‐fil‐a cow. But more importantly, it comes with a "calendar card" which gives the holder free items at Chick‐fil‐a all year long!!!Please contact a Renaissance Club member or Mrs. Falcone (jfalcone@wdeptford.k12.nj.us) to make your purchase!  

 

NHS NEWS: 

The West Deptford High School NHS is sponsoring Operation Blessing on Saturday, December 9th.    Operation Blessing is hosted by NHS is a district and community‐wide initiative that will provide Christmas assistance to over 100 West Deptford school district families in need. Operation Blessing would be impossible without the support from the entire WD community.   We are in need of non‐perishable food items, grocery store gift cards in $10 values, $20‐$25 gift cards for teenage students.  We also collect new blankets, warm winter items, and new clothing (especially coats, shoes, and underwear). Monetary donations can also be made.  Checks should be made payable to WDHS.   We are collecting items until December 4th.  We appreciate your generous support!    Please email Jody Davis or Jennifer Stuart if you have questions. JDavis@wdeptford.k12.nj.us  JStuart@wdeptford.k12.nj.us  

OPERATION BLESSING FOOD DRIVE: 

 

The Operation Blessing Food Drive has begun!  Please help the 

WDHS Key Club continue their annual tradition of providing holiday 

food baskets to over 100 local families. Most needed items are 

peanut butter, jelly, stuffing, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, 

canned vegetables, fruit, soup and stews, pasta, rice, dessert mixes, 

and pasta sauces.  You can drop off your donations in the Main Lobby 

at WDHS now through December 6th.  If you have any questions, 

contact Mrs. Yeager, Key Club Advisor.

MATH DEPARTMENT NEWS: 

 

The  2017  Hour  of  Code  will  be  held  at  the West  Deptford Middle  School  on  Thursday, 

December 7th from 2:30‐3:30pm. We have decided  to team up with  the middle school this 

year to celebrate the love of computer science across our district! Activities will be provided

BAKING AND PASTRY NEWS: 

The Baking and Pastry class continued their tradition of making cookies for the Alex Lemonade stand at Oak View Elementary.  In addition to beginning preparations for the annual buffet, the students took 

time to mix, bake and individually wrap 350 cookies.  The students made sugar 

cookies for the community service project for Mrs. A. Maska's second‐grade 

class. The class sells lemonade and cookies to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand.  

The proceeds benefit childhood cancer research.  

 

 

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS: 

The WRESTLING TEAM is holding a fundraiser at Chipotle on December 6th, from 5‐9 pm. Fifty percent of the profit goes

DECEMBER 16 and 17 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! 

 

Magee Rehabilitation is looking for volunteers to work their game clocks and shot clocks the weekend of December 16th 

and 17th for their National Wheel Chair Basketball Tournament.   They probably need 4 or 6 people each day. Contact

    WEST DEPTFORD HIGH SCHOOL PTO RAFFLE   

          

      

Like you, the WDHS‐PTO is off and running into the new school year!  

 

As a PTO fundraiser, we will be raffling off a Samsung 55” Ultra High Definition 4K Smart LED Television and Nintendo 

Switch game console.  Tickets are $10 each.  All proceeds are used to fund PTO projects.  The PTO works to raise funds 

for several projects throughout the year ‐ refreshments for Homecoming, Project Graduation and scholarships for 

deserving graduates.  We also donate and help WDHS Clubs and Organizations as well as coordinate the Teacher 

Appreciation Breakfast.  As you can imagine, it is an enormous undertaking that requires much time and much funding.    

To help support the PTO, we are asking that each WDHS family purchase tickets.  You can keep them for yourself, or 

sell them to another potential lucky winner.  

For your convenience, we have attached a ticket form for you.  Simply return the bottom portion of this form with your 

payment to school in an envelope and have your child drop it off at the main office.  Checks can be made payable to 

WDHS PTO.  Thank you for your support.

PTO MEMBERSHIP NEWS:  

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

WEST DEPTFORD HIGH SCHOOL     

West Deptford High School PTO would like to welcome you to the 2017‐2018 school year.  We extend an invitation to all 

parents to attend our meetings and get involved.  Without parent participation, we will not be able to provide these great 

activities for the students.  Our meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the WDHS Media Center.  We meet the second Thursday 

of every other month.   Our first meeting is on September 14, 2017, and we will have an extra meeting on October 12, 

2017, to welcome new members and prepare for Homecoming.   Additional meetings are November 16th, January 11th, 

March 8th and May 10th. 

 

The PTO works to raise funds for several projects throughout the year ‐ refreshments for Homecoming, Project Graduation  and  scholarships  for deserving  graduates.    For  your child  to be  eligible  for  a PTO  Scholarship, membership of  the parent or  guardian  is required.  We also donate and help WDHS Clubs and Organizations as well as coordinate the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast.       

 

To provide these events for the students, we will be running a few fundraisers.  We are currently running our TV raffle 

package, and we will also have our annual Filomena’s Basket Auction and throughout the year a couple of Pat’s Pizza 

Nights.  We are relying on our parents to help support these events. 

 

 

Meeting dates, minutes and upcoming events will be posted on the school website calendar and posted on our Facebook page:  West Deptford High School PTO.  All upcoming events will be included in Dr. Gismondi’s  Friday Eagle Newsletters. It is a great opportunity for you to volunteer as well as keep informed as to what is going on in our school.       

 

We  encourage  you  to  support  and  participate  in  your  PTO  by  joining  for  a  nominal membership  fee  of  $10.00.  

Membership  in the PTO does not require attendance at PTO meetings or events, although all are welcome to attend.

be made payable to WDHS PTO.  If possible, please send your completed membership and ticket purchase forms with your
