It was a sunny day with a brisk wind, so some Westcreek residents brought along their kites for a little kite- ying fun. Many kids (and a few adults) came in Halloween costume. There was a Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin contest and Count the Gummy Worms contest as well as a giant inatable slide for the kids. For some extra fun (and effort) there were witch piñatas for the kids and adults, which turned out to be very tough to take down. After a broken piñata stick forced us to resort to using only a half stick, one youngster had the bright idea to stab the witch and the candy poured out. The adults had a bit more strength, and took out their witch after only 5 participants. Once on the ground, kids and adults alike went for the candy, toys and even gift certicates from Randalls and Emerald Garden that were stuffed in the piñatas. Thanks goes to Alicia Ortiz for nding the original Mexican- made piñatas. Now we know how tough they really make them! Lots of good sides dishes were brought by residents, and there weren’t very many leftovers! Bob Shrader, WNA President, Ben Coughran, WNA Member at Large and Alicia Ortiz, WNA Vice President, grilled up hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone. Brett & Karla Pavey, Westcreek residents, and Christie Gaderson, WNA Member at Large, organized the picnic. Our heartfelt thanks go out to them, as well as our picnic sponsors, Randalls and Emerald Garden. Randalls provided all the meat, buns, sodas, water, utensils, paper products and miscellaneous items needed to put on a great picnic. Halloween — Scary Fun in Westcreek! There were lots of folks out for Halloween in Westcreek this year, which was foretold by the rush hour traffic coming into the neighborhood as parents rushed home to take out their costumed kids. Ben Coughran snapped a few shots of the ghouls and monsters and princesses, and we’re sharing them with you. Also, a Westcreek neighbor, HelenAnn Busa, let us know how much she liked Halloween in the neighborhood (sent via Yahoo eGroups): “I just want to thank all of my neighbors for making yesterday evening such a safe, happy and memorable family experience. It was wonderful to visit with so many neighbors and their beautiful children, and my children had a delightful Halloween! I feel so strongly about the positive experience we had this year. It was akin to our very first year in the neighborhood fourteen years ago when folks made it a point to say welcome to the neighborhood as they came around on Halloween.” Now that’s the way to celebrate Halloween in our neighborhood! Garage Sale SuccessfulIt was a beautiful day for the semi-annual Westcreek neighborhood-wide garage sale on November 4th. The morning broke with gray skies but no rain and the temperature was in the upper 50s. Brisk sales were reported by the 10 Westcreek residents hosting garage/yard sales across the neighborhood.
