Missal hired as new Director of Finance for City of WeyburnMayor Debra Button has announced that Laura Missal

has been hired to fill the role of Director of Finance."We are very excited to have Laura join our team. Need-

less to say, the Director of Finance job is an extremely im-portant one - in some ways, more important than the Mayor'sjob. Everything else in the City operations flows from thework the Director of Finance does, so we took the time tomake sure we had the right person for the job," Button said.

Laura was born and raised in Weyburn. She received herbachelor of commerce degree in accounting from the Uni-versity of Saskatchewan. After university, she worked at the

Something for everyone at the third annual Art FarmSubmitted - This week's crop of Art Farmers has yielded Jaynie Himsl and Terry Creurer.Terry is, at her core, deeply mystical, with a strong connection to the Earth. And she does

love her earth. Maybe. Where some find their voice in music or paintbrush or chickenbreeding it's clay that speaks to Terry and we can only wonder at what encouragements oradvice it gives. Or perhaps it is taunts. She attacks her clay with gusto, pounding it flat, pinching, poking, bending, and rolling. She spurns the potter's wheel, saying "Too easy! Toget the best from clay you have to work it hard." Her snarl is a little frightening, her passionevident and her enthusiasm for glaze and firing is fanatical. Still, the results cannot bedenied. Look for the traffic jam at Art Farm III and Terry will likely be at the center of it,haranguing the crowd with her advice on firing temperatures for political figures.

Jaynie comes by her craft honestly, having been trained at an early age to produce grainsacks on a treadle-sewing machine in 12 hour shifts by a stern and angry grandmother. Theseearly fundamental skills enabled an easy sale of the young girl to an artist's collective whereshe was chained to an ELECTRIC sewing machine to produce Artist's Trading Cards inchild-labour friendly sweat-shop. There she learned many artistic skills and styles and be-came familiar with different materials. Jaynie was given her own stall in the barn at Art FarmI and is deeply grateful for the personal water trough and clean straw. The improvedworking conditions have meant a blossoming of creativity and productivity for her.

To meet these artists and many others just as colourful come to Art Farm III.You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll find art you can buy.

Weyburn office of Meyers Norris Penny for four years whereshe received her designation as a professional accountant.

Laura and her husband Mark, spent eight years workingin the Cayman Islands where she performed accounting workfor multi-national investment companies dealing in assets inthe billions of dollars. Laura, Mark and their three boys, moved back to Weyburn one year ago.

Laura notes that, during her time at Meyers Norris Pennyshe carried out audits for a number of municipalities in-cluding the City of Weyburn, giving her a solid backgroundcoming into her new role.

"There were a lot of familiar faces here with whom I hadworked on the audits. That's made the transition easier.Everyone here has been very helpful in getting me settled intothe new job. I can tell that it's going to be a very positive placeto work," Missal said.

According to Mayor Button, the feeling is mutual."Laura has made a great first impression on everyone at

City Hall. We are looking forward to having a long, produc-tive relationship with her. Our last Director of Financeworked for us for 10 years so that is the 'high score' we arehoping Laura can beat."

Wear plaid for dad this Father's DayBy Martha Perkins

Don Cherry's doing it ina way that only Don Cherry(thank goodness) can pulloff. Dave Thomas says youcan do it with a toque. Andthe Vice-Admiral of the Ca-nadian Navy salutes every-one who's about to do it.

On June 19, the Fridaybefore Father's Day, they'retaking part in Wear Plaidfor Dad.

This new nation-wide ini-tiative by Prostate CancerCanada is both a celebra-tion of dads and a call toaction.

The premise is simple: chal-lenge your office or team tostart a campaign atwww.wearplaidfordad.ca.Set a goal and startfundraising. Host fun chal-lenges at work - pin your babyphotos on the staff roombulletin board and see if co-workers can guess who's who;host a bake sale or a pub

night -, let your friends andfamily know you're involvedand ask them to donate. En-courage your boss to buy youall a pizza lunch if you reachyour target by Father's Dayor, better yet, match thefunds that you raise.

Then, on June 19, wearplaid. Plaid shirts, plaid ties, plaid dresses, plaid socks - it'sa chance to reveal your in-ner squareness.

Here are a few other ideas:

• make a donation toyour team's campaign inhonour or memory of yourdad.

• make a donation asyour Father's Day gift; sendDad a link so he knows thatyou're showin' the love andcare about his health.

• donate $8 in recogni-tion of the one in eight menwho will be diagnosed withprostate cancer.

• donate the equivalent

amount of your dad's age.If your office isn't in-

volved, that doesn't have tostop you. You can pledgeto wear plaid on thewebsite or you can go towww.prostatecancer.ca/doitfordad to start your ownpersonal crowdfundingcampaign. The donationsgo directly to Prostate Can-cer Canada and your do-nors will be emailed a taxreceipt.

Drier weather helping out with seedingDry weather this past week has allowed producers to make

significant seeding progress across the province.Sixty-four per cent of the 2015 crop is now seeded, ac-

cording to the Saskatchewan Agriculture Crop Report. Thefive-year (2010-2014) average for this time of year is 24 percent seeded.

Producers in the southwest are most advanced, with 86per cent of the crop seeded. In the southeast, 66 per cent isseeded; the west-central region has 72 per cent seeded; theeast-central and northeastern regions have 42 per centseeded; and northwestern region has 68 per cent seeded.

Topsoil moisture conditions on cropland are rated as 10per cent surplus, 68 per cent adequate, 20 per cent short

and two per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoilmoisture is rated as eight per cent surplus, 67 per cent ad-equate, 19 per cent short and six per cent very short. Mois-ture conditions vary throughout the province.

Precipitation varied across the province, ranging from nilto 49 mm. Cool, dry weather has delayed germination andcrop development in many areas. Frost was reported in manyareas and producers are assessing damage at this time, whilehoping for warm weather.

Some areas have reported wet conditions resulting inmachinery getting stuck and some access roads being impass-able. Other areas are hoping for rain to recharge the top soilthat is getting too dry.

Just keep running (or walking)By Linda Wegner

Hubby walks eight to tenkilometres (four to six miles)per day, six days a week. Likeemployees of the UnitedStates postal service: "Nei-ther snow nor rain nor heatnor gloom of night staysthese couriers from the swiftcompletion of their ap-pointed rounds." (Well, al-most perfectly - he doesn'twalk at night.) Then there isour neighbour. At close toseventy years of age he racesaround the community ovaltrack as if there was nothingto it.

By Helen WallerI recently celebrated my birthday (29 again… that’s some-

where between “I was 29 quite a while ago and I'm not tellingyou my age anymore.”)

I am not sure why people don't like birthdays. Mine wasfantastic. The people in my life know how to make a gal feelspecial. I have noticed that men in general, though, cringe atthe thought of birthdays because it usually means they feelthe pressure to shop for the lady in their life.

So, I have a few ideas that just might make life easier.1. Ask for help - It’s like asking for directions but for

shopping. I know that is unchartered territory for male spe-cies, but think of it this way... asking for help is like farming

It's the thought that counts…

I love to sing. Whenever at a sporting event O Canada is played, I sing it proudly. I believeour National Anthem is for all of us to sing, not a performance for a soloist, although Idon't mind it being led by a singer, as long as it isn't murdered by trilling variations!

I also love to sing when I go to Church. The old familiar hymns get the best response fromthe congregation and me. I suppose that's because we know them the best, so we're sure of thenext notes, and can sing out with enthusiasm. Many people know the words by memory too.In fact it's quite amazing how dementia sufferers in a care home service may remember littleelse, but they can and do sing hymns from what must be a special place where those memo-ries are stored and available!

However, choruses and new hymns, and praise teams bring new music to our worship.Often they are learned by repetition rather than note by note, with words on a screen ratherthan lines of music in a book. And even more often, they are met with sour faces and "I don'tlike its". People shy away from the new songs and are reluctant to even try. Oh how we resistchange and are suspicious, even afraid of whatever's new.

It's kind of enlightening then to read what Psalm 96 says: "Sing to the Lord a new song!Sing to the Lord all the earth!" Even those who insist that they can't sing are invited to: "Makea joyful noise, or, shout for joy to the Lord" Enthusiasm and joy are more pleasing to God,it seems, than the quality of the singing! We need to let go of our reluctance to change andlearn those new songs. That's the only way they can become old favourites!

Rev. Bob Wilson, Knox Presbyterian

A new song

far less than Hubby and farslower than our friend.Trucking along at my bestpace, I and my cane areslowly increasing the numberof times we circle the trackand I'm feeling pretty goodabout it. Having said that, Ihave to remind myself thatmobility challenges meanthat I'll never be able to whizaround the oval in the waythat I see young people run;learning how to get out oftheir way, given the numberof times they pass me in anygiven lap, is a major accom-plishment.

One of the things I findmost encouraging in my al-most-daily trek is the diver-sity of walkers: there are chil-dren; high school studentspracticing for track compe-

titions; young adults andolder folk. Like me, some usecanes or walkers but in con-trast, some adults whoseheads are adorned withsnow white hair are like theneighbour - swift as deer. Themost important thing, though, is that we're all go-ing at our own pace, all do-ing our best.

I love what the writer ofthe book of Hebrews said:"Since we have such a hugecrowd of men of faith watch-ing us from thegrandstands…let us run withpatience the particular racethat God has set before us."(Hebrews 12:1-3)

God's assignment. Ourbest. His smile!

surely it will be worth it in the end. "- Sanjo Jendayi

with GPS. It's alot easier to do. So if you have one (i.e. teenage daughter or family friend) askthem for help.

2. Never, ever purchase a vacuum. EVER. Or any other appliance, for that matter. Thoseresemble work and we do enough of that the other 364 days a year.

3. Buy her a hot tub (I am just sneaking this one in there, just in case my husband reads thisarticle).

4. Do not bring anything “live” home. (Unless it’s lobster.)5. Listen to the hints she gives you, several times a day, for weeks ahead of time. This is

especially true if you have been married for over ten years. By then, she knows you aren'tmagically coming up with the perfect gift, so she starts planting seeds in your head of what shereally wants.

6. Send her to a salon or spa to treat herself to something like a new hairdo. When she isat the salon, practice what you will say to her when she gets home. Things like “Ohhhh, yourhair looks short” or “Did you do something different?” will be responses that will only undoall the good you did by sending her to the salon in the first place. Keep it simple with acomment like “You look beautiful”. It's safe and ladies love to hear that.

7. Involve your kids. A sure way to warm a woman's heart is to get the kids to make a cardor craft. Nothing better than a little one’s sticky fingers, sloppy kisses and a card made ofmacaroni. If they are teenagers, be sure to remind them that it is in their best interest toacknowledge their Mom’s birthday in some small way (for their own safety). The messteenagers leave in their path is not nearly as adorable to their mothers as it was when theywere toddlers.

8. Be very aware of the dangers of buying clothing. If you buy the wrong size, especially toobig, you need to read number 3 again.

9. Try cooking supper or take her out if your culinary skills are limited to opening a can ofalphaghetti. No one needs food poisoning on their birthday. In fact, if your wife does themajority of the cooking, try this: “Honey, you always cook for me. I would never be able tocook a meal like you do so I thought I would do the next best thing... and take you out forsupper.” (You can thank me for this one later.)

New ways to help Humane SocietyThe Weyburn Humane Society has come up with a few new ways to make donating easier.

The Humane Society is currently accepting Canadian Tire money which will aid in thepurchase of some much needed summer equipment such as a weed trimmer and lawnmower. In addition, to currently accepting the Canadian Tire money, residents with a smartphone can now raise money for the local organization by downloading an app called"ResQwalk".

Each week ResQwalk announces a donation pool (e.g. $2,500) and in order for a rescueto receive donations from the pool, its supporters simply need to check-in to the app whenthey go for a walk. The more you walk, the more you can raise for the Humane Society.Anyone who is interested in more information regarding ResQwalk can visit the website atwww.resqwalk.com or contact the Weyburn Humane Society at (306)848-7387.

Weyburn This Week, Friday, May 29, 2015 9

(May 26, 2015 CALGARY, ALBERTA) - Crescent Point Energy Corp. ("Crescent Point" or the "Company")(TSX and NYSE: CPG) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an arrangement agreement (the "LegacyArrangement") to acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Legacy Oil + Gas Inc. ("Legacy").

Legacy is a publicly-traded, light oil-weighted producer with approximately 22,000 boe/d of high-netbackproduction, of which more than 15,000 boe/d is from conventional and unconventional plays in CrescentPoint's core southeast Saskatchewan, Manitoba and North Dakota areas. The assets to be acquired (the"Legacy Assets") include approximately 1,000 net sections of land, of which approximately 525 net sectionsare in southeast Saskatchewan. The southeast Saskatchewan lands include approximately 200 net sectionsin the emerging and highly-economic Midale light oil resource play. Total consideration for the Legacy Arrange-ment is approximately $1.53 billion, comprised of approximately 18.97 million Crescent Point common sharesand the assumption of approximately $967 million of net debt, estimated as at the time of closing andinclusive of transaction costs.

"The Legacy acquisition is aligned with our strategy of acquiring large oil-in-place pools with low currentrecovery factors," said Scott Saxberg, president and CEO of Crescent Point. "This acquisition improves thelong-term sustainability of our business model and our dividend not only through financial accretion and alower payout ratio, but through the addition of a mix of assets with significant growth potential, low-declinerates and waterflood potential. The low-cost, high-return Midale assets add yet another layer of top-quartilelocations to our drilling inventory and provide us with additional operational flexibility."

Assuming the successful completion of the Legacy Arrangement on or about June 30, 2015, Crescent Pointis upwardly revising its 2015 guidance for production and capital expenditures. The Company's 2015 aver-age daily production rate is expected to increase by approximately 6.6 percent to 162,500 boe/d from152,500 boe/d, which is based on average second half 2015 production of approximately 20,000 boe/dfrom the Legacy Assets. Capital expenditures for the year are expected to increase by $100 million to $1.55

billion. Approximately 65 percent of the incrementalcapital expenditures is expected to be directed to-wards drilling and completions, with the remainderused for facilities and land investments. Crescent Pointexpects to revisit its capital budget during third quar-ter 2015 based on the Company's continued effortsto improve overall capital costs and efficiencies, aswell as its outlook for commodity prices.

In connection with the Legacy Arrangement, Cres-cent Point has entered into an agreement, on abought deal basis, with a syndicate of underwritersfor an offering of 21,060,000 Crescent Point com-

mon shares at $28.50 per share to raise gross pro-ceeds of approximately CDN$600 million (the "Fi-nancing"). Crescent Point has also granted the un-derwriters an over-allotment option to purchase, onthe same terms, up to an additional 3,159,000 Cres-cent Point common shares. This option is exercis-able, in whole or in part, by the underwriters at anytime until 30 days after closing. The maximum grossproceeds raised under the Financing will be approxi-mately CDN$690 million, should this option be exer-cised in full. Closing is expected to occur on or aboutJune 16, 2015.

Although the net proceeds of the Financing are ex-pected to be used to reduce indebtedness assumedin connection with the Legacy Arrangement, the Fi-nancing is not conditional on the closing of the LegacyArrangement. The successful completion of the LegacyArrangement, in combination with the proposed Fi-nancing, is expected to be accretive to CrescentPoint's per share reserves, production and cash flowon a debt-adjusted basis. Crescent Point's payoutratio is also expected to decrease due to the freecash flow profile of the Legacy Assets. Total debt as apercentage of the overall consideration for the Legacy

Arrangement, net of the proposed Financing, repre-sents approximately 25 percent, which is expectedto allow the Company to debt-adjust its balance sheetto maintain a neutral net debt to funds flow position atthe end of 2015.

Under the terms of the Legacy Arrangement, Cres-cent Point has agreed to acquire all of the issuedand outstanding shares of Legacy at an exchangeratio of 0.095 Crescent Point common shares foreach Legacy share. Crescent Point also expects toassume approximately $967 million of net debt, in-cluding transaction costs. The Company's aggregateconsideration for Legacy is approximately $1.53 bil-lion, based on a 5-day volume weighted average trad-ing price of $29.55 per Crescent Point commonshare. This exchange ratio represents a premium of36 percent to Legacy's weighted average tradingprice in the 10 days prior to the April 17, 2015announcement of FrontFour Capital Group LLC seek-ing to nominate three new directors to the Legacyboard of directors. The Legacy Assets increase Cres-cent Point's position in its core area of southeastSaskatchewan and include a significant entry into theemerging Midale resource play. The Midale play is ahighly economic, large oil-in-place pool, featuring lowrecovery to date and future growth potential throughhorizontal drilling and waterflood implementation.Crescent Point is also acquiring attractive conven-tional and unconventional assets, including Legacy'sAlberta assets, which are free cash flow positive withlow decline rates and large oil-in-place.

Crescent Point is one of Canada's largest light andmedium oil producers, with an annual dividend ofCDN$2.76 per share. Crescent Point shares aretraded on the Toronto Stock Exchange and New YorkStock Exchange, both under the symbol CPG.

1. Know the Occupa-tional Health and Safety re-quirements for your orga-nization by referring to theSaskatchewan Occupa-tional Health and SafetyAct. Each work site hasdifferent requirementsbased on number of work-ers, distance from medical

What to do in an emergencyfacilities, and if the work-ing environment is isolated.A minimum requirementfor all sites is a first aid kit,a first aid manual, a regis-ter, and emergency infor-mation. For help determin-ing requirements, contactyour local St. John Ambu-lance office.

2. Focus on incident pre-vention. Having plans inplace to keep employeesand customers safe at alltimes will help avoid situa-tions where first aid isneeded. Having people inyour office trained in firstaid will also lessen the se-verity of incidents that dohappen.

3. Know how to takecharge in an emergencysituation. The quicker thefallen worker is treated, the

stronger the chance ofsurvival. Proper prepara-tion for emergency situa-tions will ensure that em-ployees can organizethemselves more effec-tively and know exactlywhat to do. St. John Am-bulance offers safety coor-dination workshops to en-sure employees know theirroles in emergency situa-tions.

4. Stock the office withproper first aid materials.Having an OHS first aid kitand an AED on-site allows

for quicker response timesfor emergency situations.Making these materialsaccessible to all employ-ees is also important sothat they are availablewhen they are needed andnot locked away, lengthen-ing the response time.

Knowing what to do in anemergency can make allthe difference. For over 125years, Canadians havetrusted St. John Ambu-lance for quality first aidtraining and products. St.John Ambulance is a vol-unteer based non-profitcharity dedicated to im-proving the health and

safety of Canadians. St.John First Aid courseshelp support communityprojects throughoutSaskatchewan. See what

MAYOR'SMUSINGS

by Mayor Debra Button

Spring at last! Although last winter wasn’t too bad (cer-tainly not as brutal as the one before), I’m sure we’ve all hadquite enough of that cycle of hot-cold, hot-cold that we wentthrough for awhile. I don’t want to jinx anything but I thinkwe can feel confident that the warmer weather is here to stay.

The arrival of spring means that it’s time for us to startgetting the city in shape for visitors and for all of us to enjoy.Earlier in May, we got this kicked off with Mayor’s SpringClean-Up Day. This event saw City Council and City Hallemployees helping to clean up the downtown area, doingchores such as picking garbage, sweeping sidewalks and pre-paring flower beds.

Of course, Spring Clean-Up Day was just a symbolic firststep. There’s no way we could clean up the whole city in oneday. The process of keeping our city attractive is ongoingand we all have a part to play.

The arrival of spring also means that we can start enjoyingall the natural beauty surrounding our city. On June 13, wewill be celebrating International Trails Day by holding abarbecue at River Park. In addition to the food, there willalso be entertainment provided by local dancers from LalitaMaya Belly Dancing, Marley's Dance Effex, The Dance Zoneand the Ukranian Dance Club. The festivities will run from1-3 p.m. and we would love to see everyone come out toenjoy the fun.

Looking further ahead into the summer, we look forwardthis year to unveiling the new Pioneer Woman statue. Aroundthe time that the Tommy Douglas statue was unveiled, somepeople around town noticed that we have very little – ifanything – to commemorate the many women who helpedbuild Weyburn. The problem was: to whom should we dedi-cate the statue? It is hard to come up with a single identifi-able historic figure. In pioneer times, the role of women wasso routinely ignored that we have few records of the namesof our female pioneers or their accomplishments.

For this reason, a volunteer committee came together withthe idea of building a statue to commemorate pioneer womenin general. I would like to thank long-time community vol-unteer Ross McMurtry for his vision and dedication in driv-ing this project forward as well as all the volunteer commit-tee members who worked so hard to raise money for it.

The City is proud to support the project by offering land forthe statue cite. We look forward to continuing to work with thevolunteer committee to bring the project to completion.

On a more serious note, there have been a number ofsafety concerns raised about the 5th and King Street area. This intersection, which is right on the way out of town, is inboth a high school and elementary school zone. The Cityand the police will be monitoring this area over the summerto establish effective speed limits that will help keep our chil-dren safe. I would like to ask the public for their coopera-tion with this monitoring project.

Speaking of safety, the warmer weather inspires us all todo more outdoor activities – camping, hiking, boating andso on. These all have many healthy benefits but they eachalso have a number of risks that should be kept in mind. You’ll hear this message many times over the summer but letme be the first to say – play safe!
