What makes a music video effective?

10 things that make a video effective• Originality- the video has to have a degree of uniqueness that gives the audience

something they haven't seen before e.g. a fantasy world or alternate universe. • Creativity- the video has to grab the audiences attention and to do this it must

have a creative element that makes it stand out such as a variety of backdrops and colours within the frame

• Links to genre- the video should have some kind of link with the genre• Actors that match mise-en-scene/song- the music video will only be believable if

the actors look like they could be singing the song• Range of shots- a variety of shots is needed to enable the audience to watch from

different angles and make the video more visually entertaining• Variety of locations- a variety of locations can be used to break the continuity and

engage the audience further rather than using the same location throughout the whole video

• Memorable- the video needs to have a lasting impact on its audience• Good lip-synching, the person mouthing the words has to look like they're singing• Tells a story- the video needs to have a point to it or tell a story

The Young Blood Chronicles. This gives it originality as it’s a piece of a bigger narrative. It also makes the audience want to watch more from the series so the video fulfils its job to promote the artist. At the same time it’s an effective video on its own.

of pop rock. We can see this because the video has themes of violence and kidnappings which are things that could be connoted by some with the rock genre. A lot of the colours in the video are dark like black, this include the costumes of the characters/band, and this is also a popular connotation of the genre. By linking their video with their genre they have made their style immediately recognisable to the audience.

because as well as performing in it they play the characters that are featured. This is an effective way of promoting the band to the audience and could ensure that they will continue to follow their. This would also attracts fans of theirs to watch the video in the first place.

the theme of the video. Within the video torture devices are shown frequently to emphasise the violence in the plot and it keeps it interesting for the audience. There is also the use of a falcon in the video which is supposed to represent the phoenix which reinforces the importance of the song and the artist to the audience.
