Wellness Policy
A wellness policy helps create a healthy school environment. Our wellness policy includes four important components:
Nutrition Education
Nutrition Promotion
Physical Activity
Wellness Committee

Wellness Policy Compliance Areas
Nutrition education gives students the knowledge, skills and confidence to make healthy eating choices
Nutrition education will be provided within the science and health education programs in accordance with curriculum regulations
Nutrition education in the district will teach, model, encourage and support healthy eating
Nutrition education materials are displayed throughout all cafeterias

Provide students with access to reasonably priced foods and beverages that promote a healthy lifestyle
Provide nutrition guidelines for all foods and beverages sold during the school day at all schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that are consistent with Federal regulations for:
School meal nutritionstandards defined by the USDA and NSLPSmart Snacks in School nutritionstandards published by NSLP
Market/advertise only foods and beverages that encourage healthy nutrition

* Age-appropriate activities provided to encourage physical activity:
* Outdoor & indoor recesses
* Before & after school programs
* Physical Education and Health Classes
* Intramurals & Clubs
* Sports & Athletics
What does the wellness committee do?
Communicates and advises on student health issues
Responsible for developing, implementing and periodically reviewing wellness policy
Reviews and considers evidence-based strategies and techniques in establishing goals for:
Nutrition education and promotion
Physical activity
Other school-based activities that promote student wellness
Visitor

District food service representatives
Parent/guardians
Physical education teachers
Health education teachers

To promote student wellness, including good nutrition and physical activity in the District’s educational programs, school-based activities and meal programs through the collaborative
efforts of the classroom, school, district and community.

Triannual Report Provided in November 2019Will include:
An assessment of the District’s implementation of the policy
The extent to which schools in the District are in compliance with the policy
The extent to which the policy compares to model local school wellness policies
A description of the progress made in attaining the goals of the policy
How the District will make the results of the assessment available to the public
Where the District will retain records of the assessment
