What would be the impact for extending the democratization of secondary into higher education?

By the mid-20th century "democratization" of secondary and higher education became a major political issue in the

industrialized countries as there was a considerable gap between the upper and lower classes with regard to

educational opportunities.- From Dr Norani’s slide presentation

Democratization• to extend social equality for all in terms of access

to higher education. For example: primary and secondary schools are compulsory and people of that certain age should go to school and receive education. but not so for higher education (not everyone goes to uni, college, etc.).

• what if we do the same (that is to make college/univeristy/higher education something everyone should have)? what would the impacts be?

IMPACTS

• Higher enrolment in the higher education• More facilities needed to work effectively

(every city has to have colleges/ universities/ vocational schools, MOOCS require good internet connectivity)

• Robots vs Thinkers

PROS CONS

- more experts in many fields- More talents may be discovered and

we will have ourselves a higher quality of manpower and also an increase in the amount

- Some may take education for granted because it is given free/easily

- smaller gap between the rich and the poor in the long term

- More equal opportunities

- Standards of education may drop if there is no proper control and certification

- our country may experience a less serious case of inflation and people might be able to enjoy their lives better with lower living costs

- Less exploitation

- Competition in employment (no promise of getting a job despite having a certificate)

- More intelligent (able to think critically) and brave society

- Brain drain (leaving the country for better opportunities)

• Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS)• Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

announced a partnership to offer on-line courses, free to anyone anywhere in the world. There is a historical resonance in MIT's involvement in the MOOC (massive open on-line courses) movement.

• For me one of the biggest impact that might be caused from the democratization of higher education which may means everyone will be able to further their study to this level is that, this nation will gain itself more experts in many fields. More talents may be discovered and we will have ourselves a higher quality of manpower and also an increase in the amount. There will also may be changes that might happen such as a smaller gap between the rich and the poor and in long term, our country may experience a less serious case of inflation and people might be able to enjoy their lives better with lower living costs. This may happens when everyone is intelligent (able to think critically) and brave. Fin.
