THE UNIVERSITY OF WINCHESTER

Find out more about the range of teacher training courses the University

offers including PGCE Primary courses, School Direct and PGCE Secondary

Religious Studies.

SCHOOL DIRECT - Are you interested in training to teach being school-

based for the majority of the year? Maybe you’d like to be paid while you

learn? If so, then training with the University of Winchester through

School Direct might be the route for you. We partner with various schools

across the region, offering training in Primary education or a range of

Secondary subjects. You will be based in at least two schools, with

support from the University. You can work towards Qualified Teacher

Status, with the possibility of earning Masters credits too. Salaried routes

are available to those with career experience. This could be your route

into an exciting, rewarding career in the classroom!

Page 11: What's Next? Week Guide 2015

PGCE Religious Studies at Winchester - Why are we here? Does God

exist? What happens when we die? School students have lots of big

questions - are you up to the challenge of answering them? If you’ve

considered a career as a Secondary RE teacher, you’ll know what an

exciting subject it can be. From world religions, to philosophy, to

consideration of ethical problems, RE teachers tackle the ‘big question’

head-on. You won’t always find the answer, but you’ll help young people

to think about their own views and to listen to the views of others. RE

has the highest number of GCSE entrants (outside of the core subjects)

and is a growing subject. Schools are looking for high-quality, well-

trained teacher specialists. If you are a graduate in Theology, Religious

Studies, Philosophy, or an allied discipline (such as Sociology, Politics, or

many others), then perhaps it is the career for you. Bursaries are

available to support your study and you can earn Masters credits for your

academic work. You’ll be placed in at least two schools, gaining

experience across the 11-16 age range and in the Sixth Form if you wish.

The big questions are waiting to be asked-are you ready to answer them?
