Program Assistant/Senior Program Assistant: Gender, Women and Democracy Program, National Democratic Institute, Washington, D.C. Deadline: July 12, 2015 Position Description: The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks a Program Assistant/Senior Program Assistant to join the Institute’s Gender, Women and Democracy (GWD) program. This person will work to:

- Gender mainstream all NDI’s programs; - Assist regional teams to design and implement programs; - Create new materials to support programs; - Manage special projects as requested.

Responsibilities include:

- Serve as an in-house resource person on gender mainstreaming programs globally; - Work with NDI regional teams to conceptualize and design women’s legislative,

civic, and political party programs, facilitating the sharing of program strategies across regional teams;

- Develop program concepts and take part in strategic discussions; - Conduct research on a broad range of themes related to gender, women and

democratic governance; - Maintain collaborative relationships with international democratic development

organizations, civic organizations and NDI's network of volunteer trainers and experts;

- Drafting of presentations, board memos, proposals, work plans, website text, quarterly and other reports with minimal substance guidance;

- Train and offer advice and guidance on gender, women and democratic governance for NDI staff;

- Administration and management of day-to-day operations. Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in gender studies, political science, public policy or international relations. A degree not in gender studies should have a significant gender component; graduate degree preferred;

- Demonstrated coursework and/or internships in gender/women’s rights, international development, political party development, community organizing, political campaigns, organizational development, legislative affairs, or equivalent experience at NDI;

- Familiarity with budget management, especially using Microsoft Excel; - Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.); - Experience living/working/traveling outside the US preferred; - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including social media

Manager, Democracy, Rights and Governance Initiative, InterAction, Washington, D.C. Deadline: July 15, 2015. (Position is open until filled but applications received prior to July 15, 2015 will be given preference). Position Description: The Manager of the Democracy, Rights, and Governance (DRG) Initiative at InterAction represents the group of 9 DRG organizations in their coordinated advocacy to protect and strengthen support for DRG programming globally. He/she will build relationships and oversee outreach to policy makers in Congress, USAID, Department of State, other U.S. agencies and InterAction members, coordinating meetings with, and on behalf of, the CEOs and staff of Initiative members. A primary responsibility of the position is meeting with and informing Initiative members on budget and appropriations processes as they relate to DRG and building consensus among the 9 groups on joint advocacy strategies, including on thematic operational concerns such as procurement reform and partner vetting. The Manager of the DRG Initiative will be part of InterAction’s Public Policy Team, working

closely with and reporting to Vice President for Policy and Government Relations. Responsibilities include:

- Jointly with Initiative members, represent the DRG Initiative to Members of Congress and their staff, and to key administration officials on a range of issues, including budget and appropriations, procurement and protecting civil society space;

- Strengthen the Initiative’s ability to engage Members of Congress on DRG by developing advocacy strategies, overseeing outreach and building relationships with Members of Congress and their staff;

- Serve as an information resource to Initiative members through regular meetings and communication, particularly on budget and appropriations processes;

- Facilitate and build consensus among Initiative members on an advocacy strategy for the Initiative’s budget and appropriations work, including writing and editing policy documents, organizing and/or conducting briefings for Initiative members and drafting and coordinating sign-on letters;

- Coordinate with technical and legal staff of Initiative members and other InterAction members and staff to advance joint approaches on thematic priorities, such as procurement reform, data policies and partner vetting;

- Track and analyze legislation, other Congressional activities and administration budget justifications related to DRG;

Public Affairs and Communications Assistant, Open World Leadership Center, Washington, D.C. Deadline: July 15, 2015 Position Description: The Open World Leadership Center, and agency of the US Congress, is seeking a part-time public affairs/communications professional for a short-term contract not to exceed nine months. The position will begin in late July. Africa Policy Adviser, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Washington, D.C. As well as covering part of the Africa portfolio, you will also spend approximately 50% of your working week providing resilience to the Embassy’s Foreign and Security Policy Group (FSPG) by managing discreet projects which could fall across the range of our priorities from Asia, to the Middle East, to Europe. This is an exciting opportunity to work across the full spectrum of international affairs, in a fast-paced, high profile environment. Responsibilities include:

- Serve as the Embassy lead on US policy towards the countries of the West and Central Africa (minus Nigeria), providing analysis of changes to US policy within 48 hours of it breaking;

- Provide periodic strategic reporting reflecting on broader trends in US policy and their implications for the UK;

- Track relevant UK Africa policy and keep key US stakeholders and wider Embassy informed of major policy announcements and speeches;

- Build networks of contacts across the US government, as well as across wider think-tank and NGO community;

- Plan and manage visits by the UK Ministers and senior officials; - Support the Africa Team Leader and Embassy Counsellor in their efforts to report

and influence US policy in priority areas, notably Somalia, Nigeria and Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict;

- Lead in these areas as when required e.g. vacation cover; - Supporting wider FSPG (Foreign Security and Political Group) priorities through set

piece policy projects and public diplomacy events; - Conduct research for FSPG Political Counsellors in support of policy and strategic

work; - Attend and report upon foreign policy seminars at think-tanks and universities in

Washington, and relevant Congressional hearings; - Contribute to wider Embassy reporting, senior visits and public diplomacy activities

& provide advice to the Ambassador, Deputy Ambassador and to other teams on Africa policy;

- Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Political Science or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus but not essential;

Position description: The Regional Rule of Law Workshop Consultant (RWC) will support the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and its partners in implementing a series of rule of law related workshops in six (6) countries across the Sahel and Maghreb in Africa. Research Associate, Military Fellows, David Rockefeller Studies Program, Council on Foreign Relations, New York, NY Deadline: Posted in May 2015 Position Description: The Council is seeking a talented individual to work closely with and report to the Director and Deputy Director of the Fellowship Program and provide support for the Military Fellowship Program as well as the annual class of Military Fellows that come through the program. The Council usually awards four to five Military Fellowships annually. The program enables selected officers to broaden their understanding of international relations by spending approximately a year in residence at the Council's headquarters in New York. Military Fellows expand their knowledge of international relations through extensive participation the Council's active program of meetings and events, interaction with the Council's diverse membership, and research and writing. The fellows also assist in arranging several military trips for Council members during the year.
