BIM AWARDS I WELCOMENew and exclusive to BIM Show Live – The BIM Awards.For the first time, in 2017 we are intro-ducing a new set of industry awards the “BIM Awards”; as part of your BIM Show Live experience.These awards are a unique set of awards honouring digital construction excellence through 18 categories which represent the full spectrum of today’s modern methods of construction. They will run ahead of BIM Show Live in November 2017, and some of our lucky award winners will be selected to pres-ent at BIM Show Live on the 28 February and 1 March 2018.True to form as with everything BIM Show Live, we offer the unpredictable and are looking for beyond-the-norm; award entries that disrupt traditional thinking and showcase the capabilities of advanced technologies in the built environment.

BIM AWARDS 17 I WHO CAN ENTER The bimawards 18 are open to any UK-founded or operating organisation– whether in the business, non-profit or public sector.

BIM AWARDS 17 I WHEN TO ENTERThe entry deadline is Friday 15 Septem-ber at 11.56pm.

BIM AWARDS 17 I ENTRY PROCESSEntering the BIMAwards is free using the online application form. The awards are open for entries until the September 15 closing date.

We know there is amazing work being carried out in the digital built envi-ronment and we want to reward that talent, innovation, determination and tenacity.

This award is looking for strategic planning and change management on projects completed between July 2016 to August 2017. How the project was planned and delivered incorporating BIM Level 2 requirements with demonstrable results in efficiency savings and process improvements. You may include some of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project.

CATEGORY 2 I DOING IT ARCHITECTFor this category we’re looking for evidence of your effective use of BIM and digital construction design and delivery processes in the past 12 months. You must highlight your firms approach to BIM and provide demonstrable evidence through projects and construction work that your firm has been involved in, focusing on the outstanding features of this work, including innovative solutions to difficult problems and what your firm is doing differently to others. You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project. Plus client testimonials would be advantageous.

CATEGORY 3 I DOING ITLANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

For this category we’re looking for evidence of your effective use of BIM and digital construction design and delivery processes in the past 12 months.

You must highlight your firms approach to BIM and provide demonstrable evidence through projects and construction work that your firm has been involved in, focusing on the outstanding features of this work, including innovative solutions to difficult problems and what your firm is doing differently to others.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project. Plus client testimonials would be advantageous.

CATEGORY 4 I DOING ITM AND E ENGINEERFor this category we’re looking for evidence of your effective use of BIM and digital construction implementation processes in the past 12 months.

You must highlight your firms approach to BIM and provide demonstrable evidence through projects and construction work that your firm has been involved in, focusing on the outstanding features of this work, including innovative solutions to difficult problems and what your firm is doing differently to others.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project. Plus client testimonials would be advantageous.

CATEGORY 5 I DOING IT STRUCTURAL ENGINEERFor this category we’re looking for evidence of your effective use of BIM and digital construction design and delivery processes in the past 12 months.

You must highlight your firms approach to BIM and provide demonstrable evidence through projects and construction work that your firm has been involved in, focusing on the outstanding features of this work, including innovative solutions to difficult problems and what your firm is doing differently to others.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project. Plus client testimonials would be advantageous.

CATEGORY 6 I DOING ITINFORMATION MANAGERFor this category we’re looking for evidence of your effective use of BIM and digital construction design and delivery processes in the past 12 months.

You must highlight your firms approach to BIM and provide demonstrable evidence through protocols, policies and projects that firm had worked on, focusing on the outstanding features of this work, including innovative solutions to difficult problems and what your firm is doing differently to others.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project. Plus client testimonials would be advantageous.

CATEGORY 7 I DOING ITCONTRACTORFor this category we’re looking for evidence of your BIM adoption level and implementation on projects within the past 12 months.

You must highlight your firms approach to BIM and provide demonstrable evidence of projects upon which you have used BIM and how this has been delivered. We’re looking for evidence of 3D capabilities, levels of collaboration and information/data management.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project. Plus client testimonials would be advantageous

CATEGORY 8 I DOING ITSUB CONTRACTORFor this category we’re looking for evidence of your BIM adoption level and implementation on projects within the past 12 months.

You must highlight your firms approach to BIM and provide demonstrable evidence of projects upon which you have used BIM and how this has been delivered. We’re looking for evidence of 3D capabilities, levels of collaboration and information/data management.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project. Plus client testimonials would be advantageous.

CATEGORY 9 I DOING ITABROADThe category is open to all members of the project team for an international project that has been completed (or at least one major phase has been completed) between July 2016 and August 2017.

The project must be located outside the UK, and at least one UK-headquartered firm must have been involved in its delivery.

Projects will be judged on their innovative use of digital construction methods, digital design processes, sustainability performance and overall outcomes.

You may include some of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project.

CATEGORY 10 I CLEVER STUFFTHE SMALL ONE £5-£10M

This award is open to all members of the project teams who have completed a small development in the UK with a value between £5 and £10 million, from July 2016 to August 2017.

Projects will be judged on their innovative use of digital construction methods, digital design processes, sustainability performance and overall outcomes.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project.

CATEGORY 11 I CLEVER STUFFTHE MEDIUM ONE £10-£15M

This award is open to all members of the project teams who have completed a medium-sized development in the UK with a value between £10 and £15 million from July 2016 to August 2017.

For phased developments, at least one major phase must have been completed during this timeframe.

Projects will be judged on their innovative use of digital construction methods, digital design processes, sustainability performance and overall outcomes.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project

CATEGORY 12 I CLEVER STUFFTHE BIG ONE, OVER £15M

This award is open to all members of the project teams who have completed a big development in the UK exceeding a value of £15 million from July 2016 to August 2017.

For large phased developments, at least one major phase must have been completed during this timeframe.

Projects will be judged on their innovative use of digital construction methods, digital design processes, sustainability performance and overall outcomes.

You may include some/all of the following: photographs, model images and videos of the completed project.

CATEGORY 13 I THE ONE OFF’STHE ROB JACKSON OPENBIM AWARDThis award recognises the use of OpenBIM file formats on projects between July 2016 and August 2017.

You should nominate someone who has demonstrated a universal approach to the collaborative design, realization and operation of a project based on open standards and workflows, and how this has impacted on the project outcomes.

Nominations should be submitted with the candidate’s permission. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

And the pièce de résistance; this award will be judged by the legend, Rob Jackson himself!

CATEGORY 14 I THE ONE OFF’STHE SMARTEST BLOGYou should nominate an individual who posts messaging on their company/personal websites directly related to BIM and digital construction.

We’re looking for topical, current and possibly controversial content which has consistently made a genuine and meaningful contribution to the built environment.

Plus there must be a solution or outcome from the blog post and it must have gone live between July 2016 and August 2017.

Nominations should be submitted with the candidate’s permission. Self-nominations will not be accepted

CATEGORY 15 I THE ONE OFF’SKEEP YOUR EYE ON THIS ONEThis award honours individuals who have influenced the built environment or shown significant promise for future contributions to live projects. Their work must be directly linked to BIM delivery.

The individual must be 25 years or under and nominations should be submitted with the candidate’s permission. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

CATEGORY 16 I THE ONE OFF’SMAKING IT HAPPENThis is your chance to nominate a client who has taken a risk and embraced BIM and digital construction processes into their project(s) to achieve real-results that could not have been achieved without this delivery method.

We’re looking for clients who incorporated outstanding strategic planning and project management, combined with innovating thinking with economic impact.

Nominations should be submitted with the candidate’s permission. Self-nominations will not be accepted

CATEGORY 17 I THE ONE OFF’SDIGITAL CONSTRUCTION LEGENDThis Honorary Award is given for lifetime achievements, exceptional contribution and outstanding service to BIM and digital construction.

Someone who is ahead of the field and a leader of trends, insight and overall project delivery.

It is not possible to submit an entry or make a nomination to this category, the BIM Awards Selection Committee will decide on the winner.

The winner will be announced during the Award ceremony on Thursday 2 November 2017.

2. Describe the innovations on this project and your use of BIM and digital construction. (maximum 250 words)

3. What new approaches have you used to collaborate and share information up and down the supply chain and into end use? (maximum 250 words)

4. How have you measured and evaluated the project outcomes to evidence they are better than a non-digital approach? (maximum 250 words)

5. How do you suggest we can share the outcomes of this project to the wider industry and encourage further BIM adoption? (maximum 150 words)

The judges will be announced in the run up to the closing date.

JUDGING I CRITERIA

There are three sets of entry paper questions as follows:Categories that receive nominations for individuals; Categories 13 to 16

Categories that receive submissions from firms; Categories 1, 10, 11 & 12

Categories that receive submissions from firms; Categories 2 to 9

Categories that receive nominations for individuals; Categories 13 to 16

1. What makes this person stand out from the BIM crowd? (maximum 250 words)

2. What new and innovative BIM and digital construction processes have they introduced for their firm and what are the outcomes? (maximum 250 words)

3. What contribution has this person made to impact the construction industry and initiate future change? (maximum 250 words)

4. Why does this person deserve to win? (maximum 150 words)

Categories that receive submissions from firms; Categories 2 to 9

1. What methods have you used to adopt and apply BIM and digital construction into your firm? (maximum 250 words)

2. Using examples, how have you implemented BIM and digital construction into your project work. (maximum 250 words)

3. How do you suggest we can share the outcomes of you BIM processes to the wider industry and encourage further BIM adoption? (maximum 250 words)

4. Why should your firm receive this award? (maximum 150 words)

The judging panel may request additional information after the deadline should this be needed. All nominations received before the deadline will be considered by our panel. Details of all entries will be kept confidential and shared only with our judging panel.

PRIZE

Award winners will receive a hand-crafted trophy.Winners will receive publicity at the awards ceremony in addition to ongoing editorial coverage over the following year when possible. Some winners will be given the opportunity to speak at BIM Show Live 2018.

ATTENDANCE AT THE AWARDS

Tickets for the event are £120+VAT or a pod of 10 for £1100+VAT. Tickets include arrival drinks, food and drinks on the table.

Ticket sales are now open.

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Organisations/individuals/groups may be nominated for more than onecategory.

The judging panel reserves the right to consider an entry in a different category to the one it is submitted into.

Entries received after the deadline may not be considered.

All entries must be submitted online using the online entry form.

Additional information may be requested after the deadline.

The judges’ decision is final.
