We are very happy to have you joining our “family” at Winding Trails. We are confident that you will have many fond memories from your experiences at our beautiful facility. As

an organization the Board of Directors, Board Committees, and staff are committed to the following Mission Statement:

• Winding Trails, Inc. is a non-profit, organization serving people from Farmington and surrounding communities, providing year round recreational and educational activities for the enjoyment and growth of families and individuals of all ages. Winding Trails is dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of the natural woodlands and waterways that allow outdoor programming, character development, and other activities that strengthen the lives of those we serve

• Sense of community – Providing opportunities for families and friends to spend quality time together and share outdoor adventures in welcoming and safe surroundings is at the core of everything we do. We also understand we are a unique regional resource and recognize the importance of working collaboratively with our local and regional neighbors.

• Love for the outdoors – We instill a love for the outdoors and an appreciation for nature. We recognize the importance of the outdoors to our quality of life and health. We are committed to the preservation of the natural environment.

• Leadership and Life skills – Through our recreational and educational programming we provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn and to demonstrate leadership skills, cooperation, responsibility, communication and sportsmanship. We encourage participants to utilize these skills in all aspects of their lives.

Winding Trails is open 35 days per year. Each season offers its own special feel and programs for you to enjoy, from gliding across scenic Walton Pond, skiing the miles of freshly groomed trails, meeting new friends at summer camp, to cooling off in the spring fed waters of Dunning Lake.

MeMBeRsHIP cATegoRIesThe membership at Winding Trails is made up of the

following categories:

FAMILY MeMBeRsHIP Family Memberships include parent(s) of the same family and children of the same family up to 22 years old who reside at the same address. Grandparents and children over the age of 22 need to have a separate membership.

IndIvIduAL MeMBeRsHIP Individual memberships include single adults 18 years and over.

senIoR MeMBeRsHIP Senior Memberships cover a single senior, aged 2 years or over. There is an additional fee to add a spouse. Proof of age is required in the form of a photo ID.

nAnnY A nanny (or any caregiver) may be added to your membership. Nannies will receive a pass that allows them admission only if accompanied by the children in his/her care.A limited number of memberships are available on an annual basis.

BoARd oF dIRecToRsWinding Trails, Inc. is non-profit 501(C)3 organization

that serves constituents from Farmington and surrounding communities. It is governed through a twelve member Board of Directors who are entrusted with the fiscal management and policy development for the organization. The operation of the organization is administered under the direction of the Executive Director, Scott Brown. The organization employs 13 full time staff, approximately 200 seasonal employees and over 50 volunteers. The current members of the Board of Directors can be found at www.windingtrails.org and in each seasonal newsletter.

gRouP ouTIng cenTeRLooking for a place to rent for your family reunion, company

picnic or child’s birthday? The general public as well as members of Winding Trails may rent the facility for the day. Rental facilities include outside covered pavilions, an indoor hall, conference rooms, activity room and a team building Challenge Course. Seasonal activities offer swimming, boating, sports fields, and more. Whether it be a wedding, family outing, or corporate function, we are the facility for you! Rentals are separate from membership. The pavilion at the beach (Roosen’s Roost) is not available for rentals. However, it is available to Winding Trails members for picnicking on a first come first serve basis.

coveRed PAvILIonsEach rental group will have its own Pavilion, which is a

roof over picnic tables. Pavilions are equipped with a large long “Texas Grill” which holds up to 50 lbs of charcoal. Water and electricity are available. A sports bag will be provided for you upon arrival. Each bag contains a volleyball, basketball, football, soccer ball, and frisbee. Horseshoes and bocce balls are available upon request. Softball equipment is at the field. You are welcome to bring additional sports equipment as needed. Covered Pavilions are available May through early October. Pavilion rentals are not available during the weekday when our summer camp is in session.

gARMAnY HALLIdeal for indoor occasions this building holds groups up to 125

people. The hall offers a full service kitchen, rest rooms and a cozy fireplace complete with firewood during the colder weather. Folding chairs along with rectangular and round banquet tables are provided. There is no air-conditioning. Garmany Hall is available to rent from early April to mid-December.

Lodge AcTIvITY RooMLooking for a place to hold a child’s birthday party? Winding

Trails’ Lodge may just be the place. The activity room is available for smaller events. The room has fold-out tables with attached benches, and one entire wall of countertop, sinks and outlets.

Lodge conFeRence RooMSmall corporate training groups, meetings and seminars

can be booked in this upstairs room. The Conference Room seats up to 20 people comfortably. There is counter top space, a sink, outlets and a banquet table for preparation of coffee, light breakfasts and lunches. There is a refrigerator available. A unisex bathroom with shower stall is adjacent to the Conference Room. The room may be rented for up to an 8-hour period.

ouTdooR AdvenTuReWhat is an Outdoor Adventure? It is a unique, safe, active and

healthy activity for your group. Programs include activities such as Adventure Challenge Course, which includes Low Ropes Course, High Ropes Course, a 40 foot Climbing Tower with Zip Line and Orienteering courses. Our course has over 30 low elements and 7 high elements. All of our programs can be specifically designed to fit the goals and expectations of your group. Winding Trails’ staff can help you design a program to meet your corporate or school needs. Activities can focus on trust, team building, communication, diversity, strategic planning, education aspects, getting to know one another, or just having fun.

oveRnIgHT cAMPIngDid you know that members of Winding Trails can camp

overnight at the designated camp areas on weekends from May–October? There is a fire pit, picnic table, grill and a Sani-Can all on site. We also keep the camp bathhouse, with hot showers, open for your convenience. The area is intended for tents only. Your vehicle will be allowed at the campsite to load and unload only. No vehicle traffic will be allowed during the day. Please observe quiet time from 9:00pm–9:00am. Member families: 15.00 and guests of members pay 20 per family.

nATuRe’s PoRcHIn 2012, Winding Trails opened its new nature and education

center. This building is used by members, summer campers, and school groups. The 2000 sq ft facility has a huge wraparound porch, giant fireplace, nature exhibits, and more. It is a certified Connecticut grown building with the majority of building materials coming from our own property. Check our newsletter and website for hours of operation and programs offered.

WIndIng TRAILs suMMeR dAY cAMPAre you looking for a special treat for

your child this summer? Winding Trails Summer Day Camp, established in 1947 is accredited through the American Camp Association and licensed with the State of Connecticut. It was also voted number one summer day camp in 2013 by Harford magazine. Campers from the ages of 3–13 can enjoy over twenty different summer activities from swimming and soccer, to archery and arts and crafts. The camp is open to the public; however, members get a discount on the fees. Winding Trails has an extensive summer of opportunities for your enjoyment. Our full day camp will promise to bring smiles to your child’s face with activities such as the challenge course, giant slide, climbing tower, archery, street hockey, basketball, environmental programs, boating, swimming, arts and crafts and more. Winding Trails also offers half-day programs for 3–5 year-olds. Watch as your child grows socially, physically and emotionally stronger as the summer proceeds. Enjoy the special bonds created with our counselors and camp buddies. Brochures are available in January. Some age groups fill very quickly so don’t let your child miss out on this golden opportunity.

WInTeR FunSome people love the winter season some don't. At Winding

Trails we welcome what Mother Nature can dish out. Winding Trails turns into a virtual winter wonderland with activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding, and ice fishing. Winding Trails is home to the only full service cross country ski center in the state. The length of our season is completely weather dependent but we are always hopeful for a cold white winter. Our ski center has over 200 sets of

cRoss counTRY sKI cenTeRThree hundred fifty acres of pristine woodland, lakes and

wildlife provide a gorgeous setting for the cross-country ski center. Established in 1975, the facilities have since undergone over thirty-eight years of expansion and improvements. The Winding Trails Cross Country Ski Center offers both the beginner and experienced skier a high quality, enjoyable experience. As a member you do not pay the trail fee, but rental fees do apply if you need to rent skis.

■ Cross Country Skiing – Trails and grooming are the heart of cross-country enjoyment. Winding Trails’ 20 kilometer trail system is groomed daily. Skiers find hours of pleasure traveling through the 380 acres of prime woodland, brooks and spring fed ponds. The wide, double tracked trails on gently rolling terrain provide even the first time skier with a positive and fun experience. The entire Winding Trails cross-country trail system is completely mapped and marked with degrees of difficulty.

■ Rental Center – Winding Trails is an authorized Fisher Demo Center, complete with the latest rental equipment and updated Nordic gear. With over 200 sets of rental equipment available (including skating skis), we can accommodate a wide variety of sizes to ensure all members of the family have the opportunity to enjoy the sport. Pulk sleds for towing your infant or toddler are also available for rent.

■ Retail Shop – The retail shop is stocked with the latest Fisher skis, boots, and poles. We also have other accessories including waxes, hats and gloves.

■ Ski Lodge – Garmany Hall is transformed into our ski lodge each winter. Rental equipment and lessons are all offered here. After your ski you can enjoy a toasty fire and some warm food from our snack bar. Indoor and outdoor tables invite you to picnic within the cozy warmth of the lodge or amongst the crisp scent of frosty pines.

■ Ski School – Our professional instructors will help you improve your skills and create greater enjoyment from the sport. Whether you are a novice cross country skier or a veteran, our experienced staff has the knowledge and understanding to help you master the techniques utilized in this sport. Group and private lessons are offered daily.

■ Sledding – Winding Trails provides one of the best sliding and tubing hills in the area. Located along our soccer and softball field this 150 ft hill with a slope of 20 degrees provides thrills and chills. You are welcome to bring your own sled or rent a tube from our rental area.

■ Ice Skating – Walton Pond is the perfect backdrop for some old fashion pond skating. This pond is equipped for night skating along with a cozy warming hut to put your skates on. Additionally, we have our own homemade zamboni and resurface the pond on a regular basis.

gATeHousePlease come to a complete stop at the entrance gate.

Stickers must be clearly visible on the driver’s side windshield. Membership sticker will be scanned and any guest fees will be collected. To enable your access to the park to run smoothly and quickly, please help the Gate Attendant by having the correct guest fees available. Windows on the driver’s side of the vehicle must be rolled down so gate attendants can speak to drivers, verify membership, and obtain accurate count of passengers for our park statistics.

sPeed LIMITSpeed limit within the park is 20 mph. People use the park

road for walking, running, and biking. There are always many children and wildlife around the park, so please be aware of things and drive carefully.

MeMBeRsHIP sTIcKeRsA copy of your vehicle registration(s) is required to obtain

membership stickers. Please make sure a copy of your current vehicle registration is on file in the Main Office. All registrations should show your full name, address and license plate numbers. Leased vehicles must be accompanied by the lease agreement indicating you are the lessee or by a letter from your employer on company letterhead indicating that you are the responsible party for the vehicle. Membership will not be activated and stickers will not be released without proper documentation. All stickers must be affixed to the front, driver’s side windshield for admission into the park. License plate numbers will be written on the stickers. Make sure you apply the sticker to the corresponding vehicle. These stickers are barcoded and will be your sticker as long as your dues remain current. There will be a 5.00 fee for the replacement of a lost sticker. If you purchase a new or used car or repair a windshield, peel the sticker off with a razor blade and return it (even if it is in pieces) to the Main Office for a replacement to avoid the lost sticker charge. When purchasing a new or used vehicle advise the Main Office as soon as possible and follow the registration and lease guidelines above. Anyone misusing stickers will immediately lose all membership privileges and no refund will be given.

Winding Trails is a unique organization with many programs and numerous constituents. The Board of Directors has established the following rules and regulations for the benefit of all members.

Adherence to these guidelines will keep you a member in good standing. Memberships may be revoked for failure to adhere to these guidelines. The staff of Winding Trails is responsible for the enforcement of the rules and regulations. We are here to enforce these policies for the benefit of all. Please be patient and understanding as the staff does its job. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us (80) 77-8458 or by email.

guesT PoLIcIesEach membership is allowed a maximum of six guests

per day (not each member). Larger groups must contact the so special arrangements can be made. Guests must park along the road in front of the gatehouse and ride in with the members. Please be sure your guests pull completely off the road. Members must accompany their guests into the park and remain with them throughout the day. Guest fees will be collected at the gatehouse. Guest fees are as follows: .00 per adult and 4.00 per child ages 3 to 15. Discount guest books are available for members to purchase at the gatehouse and in the . Guest passes are NOT to be handed directly to guests, but must be turned in at the gate by the member.

PARKIng PoLIcIesParking for all members is limited to the parking lots. No

parking is allowed on grassy areas or alongside roadways (except for the overflow parking area.). Parking along the road creates visual problems for the camp buses and other vehicles. Members parking in non-designated parking areas will be ticketed. Multiple offenders are subject to possible fines, towing, and/or revocation of membership privileges. Nannies will not be issued a car sticker for their vehicles, but will receive a card for entry into the park with the families’ children. Nannies are not permitted to use the park on their own.

BoAT sToRAge■ Boats may be stored on the peninsula across from the Main

Office year-round for a fee. ■ All boats are stored at the owner’s risk. Winding Trails

accepts no responsibility for loss or damage.■ Only one boat can be stored at each boat slip.■ Stickers will be issued showing the member number and

assigned boat slip. Stickers must be visibly displayed on all boats. Boats without a sticker will be removed.

■ Registration forms for storage of canoes, rowboats and sailboats less than 15 feet are available at the Main Office.

■ Fees must be kept up to date. Once you are notified of delinquent fees the boat will be removed from the peninsula and not released until all delinquent fees are paid.

BeAcH RuLes■ All Posted Rules & Regulations are to be followed.■ Swimming in Dunning Lake opens the first Saturday in

June and is open through Labor Day.■ Swimming is permitted only in designated areas when

lifeguards are on duty.■ Open water swimming is not permitted.■ The lifeguards are here to protect everyone. Please respect

their authority and judgment. Keep paths in front of the lifeguard chairs free of chairs, towels, umbrellas, and beach toys.

■ Children are the responsibility of their parents. No child under the age of twelve is to be left unattended. Please do not think the job of lifeguarding is that of baby-sitting.

■ Bubbles, water wings, rafts and other f loating devices are prohibited. The safety of your family is important to us. Bubbles, water wings, rafts, and other f loating devices give a child a false sense of security. It is for this reason that we do not allow these devices in the lake. Coast guard approved lifejackets are acceptable but cannot be used to aid a child in getting to the rafts. Children are allowed to the rafts only if they are able to make it on their own.

■ No alcoholic beverages are permitted in the water. ■ Smoking is prohibited from the beach area.■ Please do not bring glass containers to the park. ■ Please place trash in the proper receptacles and recycling

bins.■ Picnic tables and grills are used on a first come first serve

basis. Reserving of tables is not allowed.■ Baby changing tables are provided in both sides of the

bathhouse and at the playscape. Do not use picnic tables for this activity. No cloth diapers/pampers are allowed in the lake. All babies/toddlers must wear swim diapers.

■ Fishing is not permitted on the beach or in swimming areas.

BoATIng guIdeLInes■ All persons renting boats must be at least 8 years old and

have passed level 4 swimming lessons. Boat Attendants have the right to refuse boat rentals to any person(s) unable to manage a specific craft.

■ Boats are available for rent at the boathouse daily between the hours of 11:00am and :00 pm with the last boat into shore at 7:00pm. Rates are posted at the boat house.

■ Damage to the boats caused by horseplay or operator error will be charged to the member.

■ Individuals using the boats should not bring any valuables on to the water. Winding Trails will not be responsible for damage done to cell phones, car keys, etc.

■ All boaters, whether in Winding Trails boats or their own must wear lifejackets. If we cannot properly fit your child in a lifejacket, they will be unable to accompany you in the boat – No Exceptions!

■ Electric motors not to exceed 5hp are permitted on the lake. No gas motors are allowed.

■ Launching of boats is allowed only from the provided launch site across from the Main Office building.

■ No inflatable boats are permitted.■ Boats are restricted from swimming areas.■ If you are transporting your boat to Dunning Lake from

another lake, please be sure to wash your boat thoroughly prior to launch. This will help prevent the spread of weeds and other organisms from one lake to another. A hose is located on the side of the office building for your convenience.

■ Failure to follow the posted rules and regulations will result in forfeiture of your membership.

FIsHIng RuLes■ Members, 1 years of

age and older must have a valid fishing license. Children under 1 do not need a fishing license.

■ Please be sure to stick to posted limits on daily catches. Anyone with more than their limit will have his or her fishing privileges revoked. Keep in mind fishing is for all members. Over fishing only hurts all fishermen in the end. Please catch and release.

■ All boaters operating an electric engine must be registered with the State of Connecticut and have a valid Safe Boaters Certificate and have a valid Safe Boaters Certificate.

■ No gas engine or inflatable boats.■ Members are allowed three trout or bass per day. If you bring

a guest, you and your guests’ limit together cannot exceed the five trout or bass limit per day.

■ Members must pay for their guests either at the gate or in the main office if gate is unattended.

■ Bass Protective Slot Limits: 12"-1" long bass are in a protective range and must be released. Only one bass over 1" may be kept each day

■ Failure to follow the posted rules and regulations will result in forfeiture of your membership.

geneRAL PoLIcIes■ All vehicles must stop at the gatehouse to scan stickers and

collect guest fees. Membership stickers must be affixed to the lower left side of your windshield. Stickers not affixed will be turned into the main office.

■ Walkers/Bikers should use the main gate and will be permitted in the park only if they can provide identification as members. The Gate Attendant will verify membership.

■ Windows on vehicles must be rolled down so gate attendants can speak to drivers and verify membership.

■ Each membership is limited to guests per day at the guest fees listed below. Larger groups must call the office at (80) 77-8458 so special arrangements can be made.

■ Guest fees are .00 per adult and 4.00 per child (3 to 15 yrs. old). Discount guest passes may be purchased in advance from the Main Office or at the gate, by members only.

■ Guests must park their vehicles outside the gate along the edge of the entrance roadway.

■ Members should park in the designated lots and not on the grass. Parking along the road creates visual problems. Parking violations will be issued for cars parking in non designated areas.

■ No dogs or other pets are allowed in the park.

■ Drive slowly in the park. Speed limit in the park is 20 MPH. Bikers, walkers and wildlife utilize the roadway as well as the cars.

■ Please dispose of diapers by wrapping in a plastic bag before putting in the trash receptacles. Use the baby changing stations and not the picnic tables for changing.

■ Toddlers/Babies must wear swim diapers in the lake.■ Please put trash and recyclables in the proper receptacles.

■ Members will be given a two-week priority for program registration. However, some programs may be opened to non-members at a higher fee to support the class.

■ Participants will be notified by email if a class is filled or if the class has been cancelled. Registration for most programs can be done online on our website. If you prefer, you can register by mail or in our main office.

PRogRAM cAnceLLATIon PoLIcYWinding Trails reserves the right to cancel any program

due to low enrollment. Please register early!■ Three working days prior to the start date for each program,

a decision will be made to cancel or run the program. If cancelled, you will be notified by Winding Trails and will receive a full refund.

■ Winding Trails reserves the right to combine or divide classes, to change the time, date, and/or location and to make other revisions in these offerings, which may become necessary.

■ Every effort will be made to make up classes. However, activities cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of Winding Trails that cannot be made up may not be refunded.

ReFund PoLIcY

Winding Trails has multiple programs and specific policies for major programs such as camp and rentals. Please check website for details on these programs. The following refund policies are for our general programs and special events.

■ Full refunds will be given when requested up to one (1) week prior to the start of the program.

■ Once the decision has been made to run a particular program, no refund will be given unless Winding Trails can find a substitute, or there is a medical emergency.

■ Absolutely no refunds will be given for any attended portion of a program.

■ There will be no cash refunds. Allow two (2) to four (4) weeks to process a refund.

■ A . fee will be assessed for ALL bounced checks!
