11. School One – Fire Department Visit Approval requested to have the Winslow Township Fire Department visit School One on March 27, 2020. They will be escorting the two students who read the most books to school. Students will receive photos with the fire department, fire helmet, junior firefighter badge, and certificate of accomplishment from the fire department.

12. School One – Alliance to Save Energy

Approval requested to accept a check for $250 from The Alliance to Save Energy. The check will be used by the Green Team staff to purchase supplies for the School One garden.

13. School Two-Alliance to Save Energy

Approval requested to accept The Alliance to Save Energy grant in the amount of $250.

14. School Two – High School Visit

Approval requested for 3rd grade students to go to the High School on March 26, 2020 at 10:00 AM to attend the High School Musical performance.

15. School Three-High School Visit Approval requested for 3rd grade students to go to the High School on March 26, 2020 at 10:00 AM to attend the High School Musical performance.

16. School 5 – High School Visit

Approval requested for students to attend the spring musical at the High School on March 26th at 9:00 AM.

17. Schools 5 & 6 – Orchestra Performance

Approval requested for Schools 5 & 6 string orchestra to perform at the 13th Annual Scholarship Awards ceremony and concert on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at 4:00 PM at The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, located in Philadelphia, PA.

18. Middle School – Journalism Workshops

Approval requested for Winslow Township Middle School to have Rowan University writing staff work with Ms. Hay’s Journalism and TV Production students. Rowan staff will conduct journalism workshops in the Media Center and H107 on March 27, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

19. Middle School – Hydroponics Workshops

Approval requested for Winslow Township Middle School to have Paul Davis from Green Dragon Hydroponics, Inc. conduct six full day PLC workshops for the Environmental STEM and science teachers on the following dates: March 13, 17, 31, and April 1, 2020. The cost for the PLC presenter and substitute staffing will be covered by the NEA Grant. Funded by acct. #20-059-100-100-000-07 (Vendor), 20-059-100-300-000-07 (substitutes).

20. Middle School – New Student Orientation

Approval requested for Winslow Township Middle School to have the 7th grade New Student Orientation on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

21. Middle School – Skype Call

Approval requested for the Winslow Township Middle School to Skype Adam Wozniak from Blizzard Entertainment to learn about his job in the tech world. Mr. Wozniak is a former Winslow Township High School graduate. He will also discuss his process in education to get him to where he is today and host a Q&A session.

22. Middle School – High School Visit

Approval requested for Winslow Township Middle School students to send the National Junior Honor Society and Student Government students to Winslow Township High School on March 25, 2020 to attend the High School Musical performance.

23. Middle School – Leadership Day

Approval requested for Winslow Township Middle School to host “Leadership Day” on June 10, 2020 for members of the Student Government Association and National Junior Honor Society. Guest speakers in leadership positions in the community will be brought in to present various workshops for students that will inform them what it means to be a leader and to help encourage them to develop their own leadership styles.

24. High School – NHS Teen for Jeans Program

Approval requested for the National Honor Society to team up with DoSomething.org and Aeropastale to participate in the Teens for Jeans program, which provides jeans to local shelters and charities for area young people in need. National Honor Society members at the high school will run a “gently used” jeans drive, collecting jeans which will be distributed to area young people in need. No monies will be collected.

25. High School – Our Courts Our Schools Visit

Approval requested to have Our Courts Our Schools visit Winslow High School on March 19, 2020 through April 2020. They will meet with history classes in the library.

26. High School – People’s Choice Awards

Approval requested for Winslow Township High School to host the People’s Choice Awards on May 5, 2020 at 6:00 PM in the High School auditorium. The People’s Choice Awards recognizes students who demonstrate a positive attitude.

27. High School – Leo Club

Approval requested for Winslow Township High School to host the annual Leo Club poetry contest. The winners receive gift cards: 1st place-$75, 2nd place - $50, and 3rd place - $25. The contest will be on April 23, 2020 and begin at 6:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM in the library.

28. High School – Donation

Approval requested for Winslow Township High School to accept a donation from the World Affairs Council in the amount of $787.50. This will cover the cost of transportation for the Model UN Club to travel to the next three upcoming competitions at Rutgers University, Camden.

29. High School – Environmental Club Toy Donation

Approval requested for the Winslow Township High School Environmental Club to participate in a used toy collection called the Second Chance Toys. This toy drive gives old and used toys a chance at being recycled and/or reused instead of being sent to a landfill.

30. High School – Environmental Club Collection

Approval requested to collect blister packs and top foils as part of the Bausch and Lomb Terra Cycle. Students will create and distribute fliers to raise awareness of the importance of keeping plastic out of our waste streams. We will place collection boxes in B209 and J114 and the teacher’s cafeteria. These are sent back to Terra Cycle and properly recycled. This will be one of the Earth Day activities.

31. High School – Senior BBQ DJ

Approval requested for Isaiah Shaw (approved vendor) to DJ the senior class BBQ on 6/16/20 from 9:15 – 11:15 AM. To be paid from the senior class account.

WHEREAS, The Winslow Township Board of Education is required pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:11-12 to adopt policy and approve travel expenditures by district employees and board members using local, State, or Federal funds to ensure that travel is educationally necessary and fiscally prudent; and WHEREAS, The Board of Education has determined that the training and informational programs sponsored by NJSBA and set forth below are directly related to and within the scope of board members’ duties; and, WHEREAS, The Board of Education has determined that the training and informational programs sponsored by NJSBA and set forth below are directly related to and within the scope of the listed job title’s current responsibilities and the board’s professional development plan; and, WHEREAS, The Board of Education has determined that participation in the NJSBA training and informational programs requires school district travel expenditures and that this travel is critical to the instructional needs of the district and/or furthers the efficient operation of the district; and, WHEREAS, The Board of Education has determined that the school district travel expenditures to NJSBA programs are in compliance with State travel guidelines as established by the Department of the Treasury and within the guidelines established by the federal Office of Management and Budget; except as superseded by conflicting provision of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes and has been approved in advance by the Superintendent of Schools; and, WHEREAS, The Board of Education finds that a mileage reimbursement rate equal to that of the federal Internal Revenue Service mileage reimbursement rate of $.35 per mile is a reasonable rate; and, WHEREAS, The Board of Education has determined that participation in the NJSBA training and informational programs are in compliance with the district policy on travel; therefore be it RESOLVED, That the Board of Education hereby ratifies, nun pro tunc, the attendance of the listed number of school board members and district employees at the listed NJSBA training and informational programs, and the costs of attendance including all registration fees, and statutorily authorized travel expenditures, provided that such expenditures are within the annual maximum travel expenditure amount; and, be it further RESOLVED, That the Winslow Township Board of Education, acknowledges that the Superintendent of Schools has approved the attendance of the below listed Board Members in advance thereof, which shall be subsequently ratified and authorized at the next regular or special meeting, as required by statute, for the attendance at the following NJSBA training program and informational event:

WHEREAS, the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 et seq.) requires all meetings of the Winslow Township Board of Education to be held in public, except as set forth in N.J.S.A. 10:4-12(b) which provides for nine (9) types of matters that may lawfully be discussed in “Executive Session,” i.e. without the public being permitted to attend; and

WHEREAS, the Winslow Township Board of Education has determined that certain issues set forth below are permitted by N.J.S.A. 10:4-12(b) to be discussed without the public in attendance shall be discussed during an Executive Session to be held on March 11, 2020 at __ p.m.; and WHEREAS, the nine (9) exceptions to public meetings set forth in N.J.S.A. 10:4-12(b) are listed below, and the items to be privately discussed that fall within such exceptions shall be identified and written, and after each exception is a space where additional information that will disclose as much information about the discussion as possible without undermining the purpose of the exception as follows:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board Secretary/Board Solicitor, shall read aloud enough of this resolution so that members of the public in attendance can understand, as precisely as possible, the nature of the matters that will privately discussed.
