MESSAGE FROM TRINITY’S OFFICE
Karen Ross will be filling the role of Office administrator during the month of December, as Susan will be having knee surgery on December 1. That's right! The left knee operation in July went so well, she decided to get the right one done too!
The Church, updated as of November 14, 2016, is appended. For the most current information check out the Trinity website http://www.trinityunitedelmira.ca/ or the calendar outside the church office.
MESSAGE FROM BRAD
With the sloppy winter weather coming, Brad Roth would like to remind you to bring along a pair of shoes or slippers so that you can leave your wet footwear on the mats by the entrance ways.
Safety salt is also provided at the front and rear entrances for those extra slippery days. Remember to be salt smart and use appropriately to preserve our environment while staying safe!
LET’S CELEBRATE
Let’s celebrate and welcome Lucas David Gilezan, son of Kathryn & Michael, who was received in baptism on Sunday, November 13, 2016.
MESSAGE FROM TRINITY
DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
On Sunday, November 20, 2016, a meeting of the Trinity United Church congregation was held following worship
for the purpose of voting on a concept for a new building. Michael Wright, EDGE representative, presented a CONCEPT proposed by Sedona Lifestyles Development which proposes a new building on the Trinity property. This new structure would have rental apartments as well as a worship/meeting space/church rooms, and some commercial frontage (as required by the Township of Woolwich).
There was good discussion at the meeting, with many questions about finances. At this stage in the process, precise details about finances are not available. The TDC and Sedona are still gathering information to aid in the development of a Contract, which will include Project specific financials, schedule, and partnership arrangement. At this time, no contract has been developed or signed. Prior to entering into a contract between Sedona and Trinity, Michael Wright will present the financials to the Congregation. The Congregation will have an opportunity to ask further questions. No vote will take place at the Initial contract presentation meeting. You will have an opportunity to review, pray, and think about what was presented and a vote will be held one to two weeks after this meeting.
The motion presented to the congregation was, “Do you approve of proceeding with the concept as shown in the presentation by Sedona, (dedicated space for Trinity plus residential apartments)? Yes or No”. The motion was CARRIED.
Representatives from the TDC attended the meeting of the Township of Woolwich Council on November 22, 2016 to

introduce Trinity’s concept for redeveloping the church property. This was just a preliminary, brief presentation. Meetings with the Township Planners will be scheduled in 2017 when more specific details about the township planning requirements will be discussed.
Please check the bulletin board at the church or the church’s Facebook page for updates.
Questions and concerns can be directed to Peter Kupfer, Chair of TDC, or any of the committee:Brad Fisher, Linda Hastings, Chris Moore, John Osborne, Sandra Pember, Karen Ross, Brad Roth, Jessica Rudow, Jack Tabbert, Randy Warren
Thank you for your ongoing prayerful support as we strive to fulfill Trinity’s Mission To Love, Learn and Live by Christ's teachings; creating a Jesus-centred community, and doing the things that Jesus does.

MESSAGE FROM WORSHIP
We are quickly approaching one of the busiest seasons of the church year and especially with the many changes that have occurred at Trinity this year.
We are blessed to have Rev. Fred Monteith sharing his gift of ministry with us for the months of November and December. We look forward to his inspiring messages.
We prepare for advent beginning on November 27th with our theme of generosity and our annual "Gifts of Gratitude" campaign.
We will have two Christmas Eve services with communion on the 24th at 6:00 pm and 8:00 p.m. No worship service on December 25th.
There will only be one service (informal) on January 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
Our interim minister, Rev. Sue Campbell commences her ministry with Trinity on January 1st, 2017; however, her first Sunday with us will be January 8th, 2017. To celebrate our first Sunday with Rev. Sue, there will be one service at 11:00 am with an engaging BLAST Christmas programme. Following worship, we invite everyone to stay for potluck lunch.
Our music direction Mark Robbins is enhancing our worship experience with his gift of music on the piano, keyboard, and the organ. Great Job, Mark!
Trinity choir is singing in the Community Carol Service on December 4th at St. Teresa of Avila. Our choir is thrilled and honoured to have been asked to sing with Liona Boyd in concert at St. James Lutheran on December 11th.
The worship committee would like to thank everyone for their patience, support and prayers you have given to us over the last six months with all the changes and challenges we have encountered.
Any questions, comments or suggestions please speak to one of our committee members Jamie Groh, Janet Morlock, Karen Ross or Marion Lambert.
May everyone have a Blessed Advent and Holiday Season filled with Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. GIFTS OF GRATITUDE
To help balance the budget, Trinity is

once again doing the Gifts of Gratitude campaign. You will notice a board in the Narthex with a set amount marked on an envelope. Take one or as many as you would like and simply fill the envelope with the amount marked on it. Remember to put your contact information on the envelope to ensure it is calculated as part of your giving’s for 2016.
NOTE: If you put more money that what is written on the envelope, PLEASE change the value amount written on the envelope.
MESSAGE FROM UCW
We have resumed our regular meetings this fall – generally the 3rd Thursday of the month at 2:00 pm in the church parlour. There are usually about 30 ladies attending.
Our Christmas Dinner meeting will be Tuesday, December 13, at noon, the cost is $18.00 and all are welcome. Call Linda Hastings 519 0567 for a ticket.
The Cooks in the Kitchen have been fairly busy, making apple pies and cabbage rolls for Community Can Dine, baked beans for the Poor Man’s Lunch which is a fundraiser lunch for Woolwich Community Services, and of course APPLE CRISP! Thank you to the 20 or so people who helped make the apple crisp and all the buyers of apple crisp (we are sold out!). We raised about $475.00.
Half a dozen ladies attended the Presbyterial “Day of Joy” in October. They had a good time singing, eating, and belly-dancing.
Trinity’s UCW gave $200 to St. Teresa’s church for the Syrian refugee family they are sponsoring to put toward the
purchase of a computer.
Watch for our events in the Sunday bulletins!
MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARY
We received some great donations of books over the summer months. Thank you all for contributing to our library.
Below are highlighted a few new books. We received many.
All new books are in the library on the top shelf labelled “Newest additions”.
VOICE OF AGING –Adult Children & Aging Parents Talk With God
Missy Buchanan offers a compassionate look at the concerns of two generations adult children and their parents as they struggle with the fears and frustrations of aging.
Buchanan invites readers of both generations to stand in each other's shoes through a series of 20 scenarios, presented as paired conversations with God. First she introduces the adult child's perspective on a common situation, such as the need for the parent to give up driving or move to a more manageable living arrangement. She follows with the older adult's feelings and concerns. Buchanan provides a scripture passage, suggestions to help both generations talk about and face the challenging situation, and a closing prayer.
WITH US ALWAYS – Daily Devotions Framed by the Movies
This book of devotions demonstrates how our faith journey can be explored and energized through vehicles of popular culture like movies. Using lectionary readings, the weekly themes remind us that God is with us in every

situation.
Online Bible – DVD
HEAVEN IS FOR REAL - #1 New York Times Bestseller
A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back. “A beautifully written glimpse into heaven that will encourage those who doubt and thrill those who believe.”
I KISSED DATING GOODBYE
This book brings the glory of singleness into a new light. It presents ways that being single is a blessing from God and teaches you how you can avoid destructive and meaningless relationships. The title can be a little misleading though; while Josh does show you how to make the most of your singleness, his main point is to show you that God's will for your life is priority, and relationships with other people are always secondary.
READING THE BIBLE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
Learn to read the Bible as an invitation to relationship with God. This book shows how to experience God and find his voice through the Bible.
THE GIFT FOR ALL PEOPLE – Thoughts on God’s Great Grace
The Gift for All People is a celebration of God's gift of salvation wrapped in a collection of inspirational stories. These stories will help Christians comprehend and treasure the assurance of their salvation and will help non-Christians realize and embrace the gift of abundant, eternal life in Jesus Christ. The concluding story, written especially for this book, urges readers to give their lives to Jesus Christ and shows them how to
do so. This book will provide Christians with a unique, warm, and attractive presentation of the gospel to give to non-Christian family or friends.
FEISTY AND FEARLESS – Glimpses into the Life of Lois M. Wilson
In this greatly anticipated book, you’ll meet the many sides of Lois Wilson. Moderator, Senator, Minister, Mother, Chancellor, Activist, Wife, Canoeist, Feminist. Feisty and Fearless explores the legacy of this accomplished and vibrant public and religious leader, a woman of firsts who shattered the stained-glass ceiling. With direct access to Wilson, her unpublished papers, photographs, and diaries, author Janice Meighan has created a dynamic and authentic window into not only Wilson’s history and evolving views, but her vision for Canada, making this a must-read book for all Canadians. Feisty and Fearless is a book of stories that will make you think, laugh, and cheer.
CROSSROADS – from the Author of “The Shack”
Anthony Spencer is egotistical, proud of being a self-made business success at the peak of his game. A cerebral hemorrhage leaves Tony comatose in a hospital ICU. He 'awakens' to find himself in a surreal world, a 'living' landscape that mirrors dimensions of his earthly life, from the beautiful to the corrupt. It is here that he has vivid interactions with others he assumes are projections of his own subconscious, but whose directions he follows nonetheless with the possibility that they might lead to authenticity and perhaps, redemption. The adventure draws Tony into deep relational entanglements where he is able to 'see' through the literal eyes and experiences of others, but is "blind" to the consequences of hiding his personal

agenda and loss that emerge to war against the processes of healing and trust.
Cuddle up with a great book this winter!

MESSAGE FROM SOCIAL CONCERN &OUTREACH
Social Concern & Outreach has had a busy fall season. The Winter Wear Drive for Woolwich Community Services concluded its second year. Thanks to the generous donations of our congregation and friends, we were able to fill most of the items on the request list, including at least one major item (e.g. coat) for each child. In many cases, the requests of entire families were filled.
Soup Sunday was also held on October 16th in conjunction with World Food Day. New this year was "Cup of Soup" held upstairs in the narthex between services instead of the typical after-service luncheon. This format allowed us to serve soup to those attending both services at the same time, and allowed for mingling. We believe the format worked well and was well-received. This year we raised funds for a Syrian refugee family being sponsored by a group from St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church. They were still looking to purchase an iPad as a learning tool for the children of the family, as well as a few other outstanding household items. The total raised was $160.20.

MESSAGE FROM LAY PASTORAL
CARE TEAM
Rev. Anne Gajerski-Cauley has been covering our pastoral care needs during the absence of a full time minister at Trinity. We are grateful for her assistance with these visits. If you or someone you know would like to have a Minister visit please contact the church office and let them know of your request.
In addition to Rev. Anne’s visits the pastoral care team of Melissa Hallock and Barb Taylor visit with those who have requested visits, some who have been ill or shut ins. We would be pleased to hear from you if you would like your name added to our list for a visit.
During the year we also offer Home Communion on request. Home Communion also takes place at both Chartwell and Barnswallow Place for residents living there. If you would like to join one of these communions call the church office to find out when they are taking place.
When Rev. Sue Campbell starts on January 1, 2017 she will then be coordinating Pastoral Care and meeting with anyone who would like a pastoral visit with her.
We would welcome more members on our visiting team and would be happy to discuss what is involved. Talk to us! It is great to get to know members of our
Congregation who are not in church regularly but are still very much a part of our church family.

LIVING OUT OUR FAITH
Chippewas of the Thames First Nation approached Social Concern and Outreach with a concern of theirs, so we are bringing it to the congregation's attention. The Chippewas of the Thames First Nation are heading to the Supreme Court of Canada on November 30th to voice their concerns regarding the limited consultation about changes to an existing pipeline going through their traditional territory, Line 9. The changes to this pipeline increase likelihood of a rupture to over 90 per cent within the next four and a half years, according to a pipeline expert. Line 9 crosses many ecologically sensitive waterways that are tributaries to the Great Lakes, so an inevitable spill threatens Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people alike. They are asking for people to consider a donation to the court case, for legal fees, which are expected to reach half a million dollars. Please visit chippewassolidarity.org for more information.

Observer-on-Tape
“Observer-on-Tape” is a free service that records the national magazine of The United Church of Canada on audio cassettes and distributes them across Canada to blind and other print-challenged subscribers.
This initiative is a project of Eastminster United Church (Belleville) A.O.T.S. Men’s Club. Each month, an advance copy of The Observer is delivered to the project volunteers who read its contents onto three 90-minute audio cassette tapes. Readers try to include all articles, columns and news items. They also give verbal descriptions of associated photographs. These tapes are then loaned by mail to subscribers who return them, also by mail, when they have finished listening to them.
Those who wish to receive The Observer On Tape need only complete the form attached to the pamphlet and send it to the address provided. If you prefer, call Eastminster Church at 613-969-5212 or e-mail your request to [email protected]. There is no charge for this service.
This service is provided free of charge to any blind or other print-challenged person across Canada. You can help by promoting it in your congregation and community. Identify those who might appreciate the tapes and then take a few moments to explain to them how the project works.
