Wireless GSM 3G RTU
1. Brief Introduction
The Wireless GSM 3G RTU(Remote Terminal Unit) S280 is a cost effective remote terminal unit. It inbuilt quad
band GSM/GPRS module (Or WCDMA/CDMA2000) , ISM Band 433Mhz Radio Frequency module, and ARM
Cortex 32 Bit RISC Core. It is a multi Isolation I/O port remote terminal unit and wireless data acquisition
system.
The Wireless GSM 3G RTU S280 can be used for monitoring maximum 400 distributed I/O endpoints though
maximum 50 wireless Data Acquisition Modules by RF 433Mhz wireless network. Also it can be used as for
converting the meters, transducers, Data Acquisition modules, PLC data via RS485 serial port to 433 MHz
wireless network and then transmits it to GSM/SMS/GPRS/3G/Ethernet network. It performs as a wired
wireless SMS/GPRS/ 3G/Ethernet/RS232/RS485 gateway. The range covers about 2~5Km, plus WT-02
Wireless repeaters can increase the wireless distance.
The Wireless GSM 3G RTU S280 equips 4 digital inputs, 2 solid relay outputs, power status detection moulde,
and onsite temperature and humidity inputs. All of the inputs and outputs are isolation.
The Wireless GSM 3G RTU S280 can be used as Wireless SMS Alarm, when the equipped I/O or 400
distributed I/O alarm occurrence, it also can send pre-definition SMS to up to 10 mobile phone users.
The Wireless GSM 3G RTU S280 is suitable for lots of applications, e.g.: Wireless data logging, BTS monitoring,
remote data acquisition, telemetrically, farm, energy saving, agriculture, automatically meter reading system,
weather station, storage, factory and other applications.
The Wireless GSM 3G RTU S280 supports Modbus RTU Slave, Modbus TCP, TCP/UDP, SMS and data
transparent transmission protocol through RS232/RS485/GSM/SMS/GPRS/3G./Ethernet.
The Wireless GSM 3G RTU can be used as:
A Wireless Data Acquisition System. Supports monitoring up to 50 wireless data acquisition module
for maximum 400 endpoints by 433Mhz wireless network, the range covers about 2~5Km, plus WT-02
Wireless repeaters can increase the wireless distance. Each endpoint can be setup threshold value or
alarm conditions, once the value exceed threshold value or activated will send out SMS to alert the users
immediately.
A Wireless Gateway. Though the WT-01 wireless data transfer unit, it can convert the meters,
transducers, Data Acquisition modules, PLC data via RS485 serial port to 433 MHz wireless network
and then transmits it to GSM/SMS/GPRS/3G/Ethernet network. It performs as a wired wireless
SMS/GPRS/ 3G/Ethernet/RS232/RS485 gateway.
A SMS Alarm Controller. The IO activations or deactivations can be reported by SMS and optionally
confirmed by phone calls. Each input can have its own message texts and the message can be
programmed by users.
A Switch with SMS Remote Control. SMS texts for switching particular terminals on/off or pulse output
are configurable.
A Timer-Switch which can be activated automatically. It can be setup when to performs preset logic
events, e.g.: timer reports its status, timer switch on/off device or equipments automatically.

Moreover, the RS232/485 supports transparent transmission to servers.
Add Slave Settings
This page is for adding wireless slaves to the RTU, only after consigned successful then the RTU can
work properly with the wireless Slaves. Please understand how it works firstly by below:
1) The S280 inbuilt a 433Mhz Half duplex communication module, it can transmit and receive data;
2) The wireless slaves(WT-01/02/03/05/06 series) also inbuilt a a 433Mhz Half duplex
communication module, it can transmit and receive data;
3) The wireless salve includes 3 types for different purposes:
WT-01: Wireless Data Transfer Unit, equips one RS485 Serial port for communication with with
PLC,Meters, data acquisition modules, this model is special for transparent data transmission. If
you use WT-01, then no need to setup other parameters. But at GPRS/Ethernet/RS232/485
Settings, please choose the communication protocol as transparent data transmission type. This
solution is special for the project that has Server already, and just want to covert the distributed
PLC,Meters,Data Acquisition Modules to 433Mhz wireless network, then transmit to local server or
remote servers. See below:

WT-02: Wireless Repeater, it is a wireless amplifier special for expend the wireless signal transmit
distance, the wireless distrance is up to 2~5Km.
WT-03/05/06: Wireless Data Acquisition Module. These models equips I/O inputs for wired
detectors, sensors and analog inputs. They are special for monitoring its I/O in distributed areas.
see below:
4) For WT-01 and WT-02, no need configure them in the PC configurator.

5) For WT-03/05/06, in S280 RTU should assign the registers to save the data of each wireless
salves IO parameters, means mapping address, E.g.: IO Channel Name, threshold value, trigger
condition, alarm SMS content etc. and after configured, the RTU will polling the wireless slaves
and read its present value, then compare the its preset value, if the reading value exceed the
threshold value or active then will consider it as an alarm event, then process it according to the
pre-set parameters, e.g.: send out SMS or close the DO1/2. The configuration please see below
explanations.
6) For adding slave operation, please refer to the PC Configurator Notice.
Master-Slave Working Mode: to choose the RTU and Wireless slave working mode. Include 3 types.
Disabled: Stands for will not use wireless slave;
Slave Upload Period: Stands for the wireless slave will automatically upload the data to the RTU, this
mode is reserved, if you application required this functions, please contact us for more details.
Master Polling Mode: Stands for the RTU will periodically polling the wireless slaves.
Slave Serial Number: Stands for the SN of the wireless slave, range 1~50, each wireless slave must
use a unique serial number, and the serial number can not be the same with other wireless slave;
Slave Model: Stands for wireless slaves WT-01/02/03/05/06. If choose WT-01/WT02 then no need to
configure in the configurator.
Notice:
1) The S280 assigned 8channel for each wireless data acquisition module.
2) For WT-03 and WT-05, the first channel is for temperature, the second channel is for humidity. And
the temperature&humidity sensor must use AM230x sensor. Please dont change its usage. The
unused channel is reserved.
3) For WT-06, the 1st~4
th channel is Analog input 1~4, and the 5~8
th channel is digital input 1~4.
Slave Mapping Address: Stands for this register in RTU related to which I/O in the Slave. The Slave
mapping address was fixed, the relation is below:

6. Communication Protocol
The WIRELESS GSM 3G RTU supports TCP/IP communication via GPRS/3G. It is very useful for users to
create remotely server. It inbuilt Modbus TCP protocol and definition protocol (KingPigeon RTU Protocol) and
transparent transmission, the user can connect the WIRELESS GSM 3G RTU to the present HMI, OPC Server,
SCADA directly.
Also, the RS232/RS485 serial ports can be used as Modbus RTU Slave under Modbus RTU protocol integrated
to DCS or other monitoring center.
The RS232/485 also can be used as data transparent transmission.
For GPRS Communication protocol, please refer to .
7. Registers Assignment Table
The registers assignment of the RTU and its IO will definite in the < S280 WIRELESS GSM 3G RTU Register
Assignment Table>, please refer to it.
8. Upgrade Firmware
The WIRELESS GSM 3G RTU supports upgrade firmware via USB port directly. If we upgraded the
firmware functions of the RTU, we will inform you to upgrade the firmware if you required. If there any new
requirements of the present functions caused it should update the firmware, the user can upgrade them
directly by USB port. If you required upgrade, please contact us to modify the firmware according to you
requirements, and we will provide the upgraded firmware to you to upgrade them.
9. Warranty
