Chittenden East Youth Football Association is a Vermont not-

for-profit organization founded in 1999 to offer football to our

area youth. CEYFA players are from the Chittenden East

School District (Jericho, Underhill, Richmond, Bolton,

Huntington, and Westford). The program’s mission is to build

character and self-esteem in our community’s youth through

the experience of football. CEYFA coaching and

administration emphasizes a safe, positive, and personallyrewarding environment for all participants.

CEYFA is a member of the not-for-profit Northern Vermont

Youth Football League (NVYFL), an organization of 16 youth

football teams from northern Vermont towns. The league has

a tradition of enthusiastic competition between youth teams,

and offers an excellent venue for young athletes to

experience football.

CEYFA’s motto is “Intensity with Integrity”, and our program

prides itself on teamwork, sportsmanship and fun

Opponents and officials have commented on the positive

behavior displayed by our players and coaches. Many players

volunteer in our community in the name of the Wolverines.

CEYFA believes that completing a season of football provides

young men and women with leadership and friendship skills

that will last a lifetime. CEYFA also encourages parents to

research medical facts and injury statistics on their own and

will hopefully feel better about allowing their children to play

not only youth Football, but any team sport that places such

a high emphasis on safety. We also encourage skeptics to ask

families who have been a part of the Wolverine program what

their experience has been. If you have ever been to Mills

Riverside Park and watched a Wolverine Football practice or

game you know how special it is and the value it has for our

community.

Safety and risk of injury playing Football  –  Our sons and

daughters are the most precious possession we have. We

always want them safe and free from harm. Then why allow

them to play football or any sport that exposes them to risk

of injury?

Our answer is that the certain benefit can offset the risk of

serious injury. Youth Football builds confidence,

responsibility, camaraderie, leadership, understanding how

cooperation and teamwork is applied and promotes healthy

living. No doubt, Football is one of the sports that have a

higher risk of injury than some, yet it is behind bicycling and

basketball for emergency room visits according to the SAFE

KIDS Campaign and the American Academy of Pediatrics for

children ages 5 - 14.

Parents can have a perception that their children will be

required to consistently tackle and be tackled by kids twice or

three times their size - that is rarely true. We have three

levels of play  at CEYFA; grades 2-4 participate in the flag

program and do not tackle, grades 5 & 6 age children are

introduced to tackle and play other 5th and 6th grade players

and 7th and 8th grade age children play each other. At

practice, we match kids up by size and experience to work

through drills. CEYFA participates within the Northern

Vermont Youth Football League that has an established set of

rules that restricts weights of ball carriers and mandates that

coaches be USA Football certified and Heads Up tackling

certified.

Football provides an opportunity for children of all shapes and

sizes to get onto the field and perform and develop

confidence. CEYFA teams are coached by local adults, mostly

parents who care about the well-being of the players, love the

game and put many hours into coaching that includes taking

and passing the USA Football Youth Coaches Certification

Course that provides coaches with a solid foundation for

safety. This training includes: proper technique, managing

safe drills, concussion awareness, hydration, general first aid

and communication. CEYFA also provides players some of the

best equipment available, in particular the helmets. Ou

helmets are approved by the National Operating Committee

for Standards for Athletic Equipment and are reconditioned

and retested.

CEYFA focuses on a fun, safe, and rewarding environment fo

our children to experience football. We hope you take the

time to explore what our program can offer.

Wolverine coaches place a high priority on safety, work ethic,

integrity, and fun. I find the most amazing aspect of the program

however to be my son's realization that a strenuous physical

activity can be so much fun. Through thoughtful planning and

preparation the coaches assure that hard work and fun come

hand in hand. My son literally runs across the MRP bridge excitedto attend practice; when he returns home he is physically tired,

yet he has a wide smile on his face already looking forward to his

next day of playing Wolverine football.”

- Patrick Burke, Wolverine Parent,

Principal South Burlington High School

“As an 8th grade teacher at Browns River Middle School, I

observe the positive impact Wolverine Football has on my

students every single day. The program builds a significant

community for these young men that spills over into the school.

The Wolverine players show real maturity and a sense of

leadership in my classroom, and throughout the school year they

lead by example. These are boys who are thinking about thepeople and the community around them. I attribute that to the

teamwork and the unselfishness taught by coaches and the

volunteers of the Wolverine Football Program.”

- Jeff Warren, 8th Grade Math/Science Teacher,

Browns River Middle School

“Youth football helped to form the person and athlete that I am

today, I cannot imagine where I would be without this great

program in my life.”

- Carter Glenn, 2013 Shrine Team Selection, Mount Mansfield

Football Tri-Captain, and Wolverine Player 2005-2008

“The Wolverine Football program has inspired my son to work

hard, give his all, be a positive role model for his peers and

improved his confidence and leadership qualities. Thank you

CEYFA and all of the volunteers that make this program happen

for our kids!”  - Regina Limoge, Wolverine Parent
