What We Stand For

WORK

ORGANISATION

LOYALTY

VALUES

EDUCATION

SUCCESS

Football Philosophy

4 Key Moments 1. We are in possession of the ball

2. We do not have possession of the

ball

3. We have won the ball back and organising to attack

4. We have lost possession of the ball and organising to defend

Foundation Phase

• Boys train three times a week • Emphasis on developing young players’ decision making,

being creative and enjoying their football.

• Technique / Technique / Technique

• Play in weekly games vs. other Academy sides. Formats range from 6v6 – 9v9

Academy Training

• Players work for at least 45 minutes with a ball each / ball between two – Improve Handling The Ball

• Sessions always featured aspects of opposed play – 1 v 1, 2 v 2 and overload situations (2 v 1 / 3 v 2 etc.)

• Each session features small sided games, usually with stipulations or rules designed to encourage creativity (e.g. three passes to score, first time finish)

• Sessions last for around 90 minutes – 2 hours

The ‘Pre-Academy’

• Young players train twice a week.

• Still play in local football (with their ‘mates’)

• Emphasis placed on having fun, scoring goals and

developing as an individual player

• Will play in games of 5v5/7v7 between 1 - 3 times a

month.

Holistic Approach

• Regular conversations with player’s schools regarding academic progress and behaviour

• Coaching sessions that are designed to address the physical, social and psychological needs of the player

• Two ‘Parents Evenings’ taking place during the season do review boys progress

• 8 weekly reviews / technical move of month

• Mid Season & End of Season technical reports given to all Academy players, highlighting progress and areas for improvement.

Links With Grassroots

• Wolves Academy running Junior Club Days on a regular basis throughout the season, offering players the opportunity to experience life at Wolves.

• Hosting Schools Tournaments / Cup Finals throughout the season at Compton. • Gifted & Talented days taking place annually on Molineux, allowing young players to

experience playing football at the stadium.
