Session Description: Using the analogy of a car, the presenter will take participants on a journey of several "Inner States" that will empower and motivate them to take the wheel and drive toward success and well-being in all areas of life. Participants will examine what is stored in their trunk that keeps them from living their full potential; equip them with items that should be stored in their trunk in times they feel they are about to break down or need a boost; how to transform adversity into fuel for success with the power or mindset; identify ways to engage in regular maintenance and tune-ups to enhance overall performance; demonstrate how to reframe detours as opportunities; how to ignite their inner spark; and ways to fine-tune their thought frequency for success and well-being. This session is highly motivational and entertaining.
Championing Excellence in the Classroom
Presenters: Janice Garland, Principal Coach, Henrico County Schools Session Description: Participants will work in small groups to apply steps in a meaningful feedback cycle to establish inter-rater reliability, build evidence-based feedback and leading questions, and reflect on the process of instructional observation. There are two important considerations when designing observation tools: 1.Purpose - What is the purpose of the observation? To monitor fidelity of implementation for a new program or initiative (i.e., writing across the curriculum)? To monitor alignment of instructional delivery to the written curriculum (i.e., embedded content vocabulary, student engagement with content at the appropriate level of rigor)? To establish inter-rater reliability? 2.Look Fors - What does it look like? (i.e., Does the teacher use the content vocabulary? Are students using the content vocabulary? (in context with the content?)
