Ever since she was a child, Asia Voightknew she had a special ability to communicate with animals. In fact, shethought everyone was able to make the connection. However, when she reached her teenageyears, she turned off the animals' voices because it was getting to be too much for her.And that was that - until a horrendous carcrash in Florida changed her life forever."It was because of that accident that Ilearned about the body, mind, spirit connection," she says. After a crash with a semitruck on her way to Florida, her van startedon fire with her trapped inside the flamesand smoke.

"It was during this crisis that myguardian angel came to guide me out of thevan, and I ended up jumping though theflames to safety," she says.6

She ended up in an intensive care unit ofa Florida hospital for three months, and theoutlook was not good. Asia was given a mere3percent chance of survival, and if by somemiraculous chance she did survive, the doctors said she would be 98 percent disabled. After her time in intensive care, Asia continued her recovery at Theda Clark MedicalCenter in Neenah.

"They almost had to cut off my right leg,and my left leg was severely paralyzed," shesays. "Led and guided by my guardian angel,I learned where to seek help for my healing, which would consume the next five years. While in the hospital in Neenah, I cameclose to dying, and one of those times I diddie and had a near-death experience."She continues, "In that experience, Godasked me to come back to earth andreawaken my ability to communicate with

animals - to show this world how to heal andcommunicate with the animals. He askedme to show them how they could have thisamazing ability."The recovery process would continue fothe next five years. But with extremecourage, determination and extensive physical therapy, Asia beat the odds and got well

What is one of the funniest moments ofyour career? 1was invited toa horse boarding facility in Illinois to communicate with a spotted horse. The ownertold me, "Some days he is very friendly andallows me to pet him, and some days heruns away. Why?" Sending the horse thequestion telepathically, 1 instantly heardback , "He stinks!"Oh no, I think to myself, please don'tmake me say that! I discreetly sniffed theair in his direction and responded to thehorse, "He doesn't smell to me - are yousure about this?"

sion, radio, in magazines and in Dr. JulieKaufman's book, "Crossing the Rubicon: Celebration of the Human-Animal Bond in Lifeand Death." She also makes appearances asa keynote speaker at various animal-relatedfunctions .The Neenah native earned a degree incommunication arts from the University ofWisconsin-Oshkosh and has also worked asa midwife's assistant, cranial-sacral therapist and healer.According to her teacher and mentor,Smith, "Communication between humansand animals has taken on a deeper meaningand urgency. We can learn so much from theanimals about how to live in harmony andbalance on the earth. For animal lovers, direct telepathic communication boosts theunderstanding, joy and richness possible in

Undaunted by my immature nasal attempt to investigate, the horse flatly statesagain, "It is simple. If he stinks, I run."'fuming to the man, I now see a crowd ofboarders standing around us. My uneasegrows. I take a deep breath and say, "Yourhorse says you stink, and that's why he runsaway."The crowd burst into laughter as hiswife stepped forward, "1 can't believe wedidn't think of this - my husband workstwo days a week at a pig farm!"

What gift would you bring to ahousewarming party? 1would bring acookbook, or 1should sayan UNcookbook.I have just discovered raw gourmet vegetarian cooking. I would encourage everyone to try this delicious, healthy, time-freeing alternative.

It's anamazing intuitive connection. It's like amassive television or radio signal that goes between the animal and me. Even though youdon't see these signals, they exist. And once1 une into that specific frequency, I'm ableto connect with them."She continues, "I see myself as afine-tune

The consultation process is much liketranslating between two people who speakdifferent languages, Asia says. She first listens to questions and responses between thehuman and the animal, relaying the interpreted conversation. This communication can help pet ownersunderstand health and behavioral issues, see the animal's viewpoint, know how dayto-day routines affect the animal and createmore joy in the relationship, Asia says. Most consultations are held over thephone with the use of a photograph of theanimal. Asia works in small group sessions, demonstrations or private sessions, whichwill allow pet owners to personally communicate with their animals.~ J l e z i c a n o azeg d ~ According to recent spending reports,Americans spent $34.4 billion on their pets

in 2004, which means pet-related spendinghas doubled in the last 10 years in theUnited States alone. People buy their petsclothes, beds, treats and toys, and most ofthemare treated like family. Some are eventreated like royalty. There's no doubt thatAmericans 100'e the ir pets, so it's no wondermany people wish to communicate withtheir furry friends, too.Dr. Pat Mahoneyof the American AnimalHospital in Neenah says two of his clientshad satisfying experiences with Asia , and hetestifies to her ability."One was the case of a relatively youngdog who was quite ill, and the vet couldn'tfind a reason for the illness, even after manydiagnostic tests," Dr. Mahoney says. "Theowner turned to Asia for help. The dog toldher where things were hurting and what waswrong, which allowed us to focus. That wasvery helpful."In the second case, the owner of a veryold dog had reservations about putting himto sleep because she felt it wasn 't the dog'stime. She turned to Asia for help . Asia informed the owner that it was not the dog'stime, and all he really wanted was a ramp.Building the ramp helped a lot, the ownersaid.

"My wife and I met with Asia, too," Dr.Mahoney says. "We have five pets. I have adachshund, and I wanted to know what thelittle dog was thinking. We also have a 19-year-old cat, and we wanted to know if it washer time to go ." After being originallyskeptical, Dr. Mahoney and his wife became believers in Asia's gift.Stacy Frakes of Neenah tells anotherstory about her parrot named Mr. Bentley.Frakes received the bird from his previousowner. During his time with the previousowner, he plucked out all his feathers.Frakes took him to the vet, where they wereunable to find anything medically wrong."Asia Voight happened to be coming toBotanical Indulgence, where she oftenworks as an animal communicator, so Iwentthere to find out if there was something Icould do," Frakes says. "Maybe there wassomething I could bathe him in to deter himfrom pulling his feathers out .Asia fit an appointment in vvith the bird - and it was incredible."

Voight says the bird told her he was bored ,there was a lack of toys and his diet was insufficient. Those were the things that madehim pluck out his feathers. Things werechanged, and the bird is now doing well.
