BLUE KNIGHT HEAD COACH LAUREN LEWICKIUrbana University Athletic Director Doug Young announced the hiring of a new Blue Knight women'ssoccer head coach Lauren Lewicki in December of 2010. Lewicki becomes the fourth head coach inthe program's 13-year history.

"We were thrilled to find someone as enthusiastic and motivated as Lauren to lead our women's soccerprogram," said Young. "I am confident Lauren will thrive as a first-time head coach at our University."

Lewicki comes to Urbana from Defiance College, where she served as both an assistant on the men'sand women's soccer teams. As a first-year assistant coach for the women's team in 2009, Lewickiguided the Yellow Jackets to a DC Classic Tournament title, and saw two of her players earn all-conference recognition. For the men, Lewicki served primarily as a goalkeeper's coach, a position she

excelled at playing for NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit University.

At WJU, Lewicki was a three-time team captain. She led the Cardinals to a 59-26 record during her career, including a trip to theNCAA Regional Tournament in 2005. Along with being a three-time all-conference performer, Lewicki earned all-regional status in2005 and was tabbed an NCAA Scholar Athlete in 2008.

"I'm really excited to begin my career as a head coach at Urbana," Lewicki explained. "I believe the University and I are at similarstages of development. Urbana is new to Division II, and we're both growing. I feel like the sky's the limit for this program."

The Erie, Pa., native began her coaching career working with teams at the high school and club soccer levels. She also served as astudent assistant for the Cardinals in 2006 while she was sidelined due to injury.

Lewicki graduated from Wheeling Jesuit in 2008 with a degree in respiratory therapy and a minor in psychology. She recentlycompleted a Masters of Arts in Education with a Coaching Concentration at Defiance.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT SARAH SHOPESarah Shope returns to Urbana University in 2011 as a second-year graduate assistant for the BlueKnight women’s soccer team. Shope was a 3-year varsity starter at defender for the Blue Knights from2004-06. She transferred to Urbana from the University of Findlay. Twice, she served as team captain,and twice she received All-AMC honors. The Dayton-native was named the Blue Knights’ MVP in2004. She landed Best Defender accolades in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and she was named the team’s bestreturning player in 2006. Sarah is the sister of Kristen Shope, a 4-year starting defender and 2007NAIA All-American at Urbana.

Shope graduated from Urbana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science in May of 2007. She hasworked as a personal trainer since that time, and she also received her certification as a strength andconditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Blue Knight Notes - 2010: Named to Athletic Director's SpringHonor Roll...Missed the entire season after suffering a collarbone injury in a pre-season scrimmage.

2009: Abby started all 17 games for the Blue Knights, becoming1 of 5 Blue Knights to start every game...Registered a team high3 assists on the season including 2 against Lake Erie on 10/25/09...Has 9 total assists in her career which is good for 10th all-time...Took 27 shots on the year.

2008: Abby played and started all 15 games as a truefreshman...Had 6 assists and 2 goals as a starting defender andstriker...She handled most of the corner kicking and free kickduties for the Blue Knights...Her 6 assists were 2nd best on theteam....Both of her 2 goals were game-winners...Led the teamin game-winning goals...Took 21 shots, 14 on goal for a .667SOG%, good for 5th on the team....Game-winners came on 9/20/08 vs. WV Tech (1st career goal), and on a penalty kick inthe 57th minute of a 2-1 win over Lake Erie on 10/18/08.

Prep Notes: Meghan was a 4-year varsity starter while playing soccer forCoach Jack Hartley at Bath High School. She was named team captain for 3 ofher 4 years. Meghan has also accumulated several awards during her stellarcareer. She was named First Team All-District (senior year), Second Team All-District (junior year) and First Team All-WBL 3 times. She also garnered TeamMVP and MVG honors for 3 consecutive years.

Prep Notes: Samantha played at Wayne High School for CoachHarold Stienke. Samantha was a 4-year varsity player at Wayne.Throughout her high school career, Samantha earned various awardsfor both her play on the field and her studies off the field. Samanthahas been named GWOC Special Mention, as well as receiving 3team academic awards and recognition as the Rotary's ScholarAthlete of the Month this past September. Trick was team captainon the 2008 Wayne HS team that won a District Championship inD-I. Samantha has also excelled playing club soccer. Had a large impact in everygame she played in this season... She has been an impact player atevery position on the field.

2009: Started all 17 games for the Blue Knights as a true freshman,becoming the only freshman to play every game and just 1 of 5 BlueKnights to start all 17 games...Scored 3 goals on the year including 2against Lake Erie and her only game winner on 10/25/09...Her effortagainst Lake Erie earned her Blue Knight Student-Athlete of the Weekhonors...Registered 3 assists which was tied for the team lead...Took21 shots on the season...Named Teammate of the Year.

Prep Notes: While playing three sports at Defiance High School,Mikaela earned many awards, including First Team All-WBL twotimes, Second Team All-Northwest Ohio District Division 1 twice,Second Team All-WBL, and Special Mention All-WBL. Her soccerteam and coaches selected her 3 times as the team's top offensive playerand MVP twice. Her freshman year, Mikaela set the school record formost goals scored in a season with 23. She finished her career with 74goals.

Mikaela also excels at basketball and track, having received numerousawards in both those sports as well. Mikaela is a 3-time state qualifierin track. She broke 3 school records in the 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800relays. Her 4x800m relay team also broke a Regional record in 2008.

Personal: Mikaela is the daughter of Owens and Anita Tolbert. Shewas born on December 17, 1990. She is majoring in ComputerInformation Systems at Urbana University.

Blue Knight Notes - 2010: As a sophomore brooke plyed inall 18 games and started 11...She had 1 assist on the seasonand took 12 shots... She assisted the only goal of the game ina 1-0 victory against Southern Indiana... Named to AthleticDirector's Spring Honor Roll...Changed from #19 to #12before the season.

2009: Played in 13 games for the Blue Knights, starting 4 asa true freshman...Took 2 shots on the year.

Prep Notes: Brooke Smith played at Bloom-Carroll HighSchool for Coach Allison James. Smith carried a 3.8 GPAwhile receiving various awards playing both basketball andsoccer in high school. Smith's awards include being named1st Team All-Mid-State League 3 straight seasons. She wasnamed 3rd Team All-MSL following her freshman season.Brooke also garnered All-District honors. She was named2nd Team All-District as a junior and 1st Team All-Districtas a senior. She was also named Team MVP, as she ledBloom-Carroll's team in goals and assists her sophomore andsenior year.

In the spring seasons, Smith played with the LancasterWildcats (2004-06) and the Mount Vernon Sting (2007-08)where she played for Coach Jonathan Meade, who is also thehead coach of Mount Vernon Nazarene University's women'ssoccer team.

Personal: Brooke is the daughter of James and Judy Smith.She was born on August 4, 1990. She is an Exercise Sciencemajor at Urbana University.

Applicants are encouraged to apply early in their senior year of high school, though there is nostated deadline. While admissions are flexible based on high school achievements and grades,applicants are usually accepted based on having a cumulative high school grade point average(GPA) of at least 2.0 and an ACT score no less than an “18” (or SAT score of 860).

Urbana University is a member of NCAA Division II. The Blue Knight athletic teams competeagainst NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III and NAIA programs from across the country in 15 intercolle-giate sports including: football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’sbasketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, andmen’s and women’s swimming. Women’s lacrosse became the 15th intercollegiate team dur-ing the 2010-11 school year, and men’s and women’s bowling club teams were added in 2009.A variety of activities are also offered for student enrichment including: theater, concerts, pepand marching bands, choir, movies, parties, guest speakers, comedians, flag football, intramu-ral basketball, skiing, student newspaper, sand volleyball, indoor pool, student governmentand nearby outdoor adventure activities (canoeing, rafting, hiking, camping, etc.).

URBANA UNIVERSITY ACADEMICDEGREE PROGRAMS

The 27,000-square-feet Student Center is one ofUrbana University’s newest on-campus facilities.Features include the Bundy Wellness Center, lounge,conference and meeting rooms, snack bar, and abookstore. Wireless computer service is availablethroughout the facility.

In 2003, a major renovation project wascompleted at Barclay Hall and adjacentBailey Hall. The two buildings, whichhouse classrooms, are now connectedby an atrium and a secondary walkway.

Urbana University is dedicated to providing superb residencehall facilities to its students. McConnell Hall (above) wascompleted in the summer of 2007, and Sycamore ResidenceHall (left) was completed in 2004.
