Cyber-Bullying Education

Woodlands Academy embraces digital technology which is now a large part of our children’s lives.

Even though the use of Digital Technology’s pros outweigh the cons in particular with Social Media, Woodlands believe appropriate training is necessary for our students’ self protection, from the dangers associated with Social Media.

In October, each class at Woodlands underwent classes in how to protect themselves from Cyberbullying. A total success.

Sexual Education AwarenessIn 2012, Woodlands Academy, understanding the need for Sexual Education invited ‘Pure in Heart’, an Irish Catholic charitable organisation, established and run by young adults,

to come to Woodlands to speak to our students (over 13 years).

This proved to be very effective and according to our student feedback afterwards, it was less embarrassing for them in this group setting to talk about these sensitive subjects.

Feedback from Parents was incredible with 100% grateful to us for this extra education.

The following topics were covered:

Sex and sexualityWhat is love?

The difference between love and lustRelationships and marriage

The gift of lifePressures to be sexual

Modesty and respect for ourselves and othersChastity and how to live it

Issues that arise from sexual activity outside the marriage

Due to the success of this talk, we will be running this program again in early Spring of next year

New Student CouncilThe Student Council was implemented in September 2013

WHAT is a Student Council?

2 Student Representatives per class are elected by fellow studentsForming the Student Council, these students attend monthly meetings

and liaise with a Teacher Representative

with their views, suggestions and feedback on many different aspects of Academy life

WHY implement a Student Council?

Students have a right to be heardThis council gives students a VOICE, Empowering our Students

Education on NutritionIn 2011, Paula Mee, a famous Irish Nutritionist came to

Woodlands to talk to our students about the importance of Nutrition while they are residing at Woodlands.

Since then, Paula Mee gives lectures at Woodlands to each new generation.
