IT'S TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT THE GARDEN!!! We are assuming it will stop snowing eventually! Last year, we donated more than 850 pounds of organic produce, valued at more than $1,400. We hope to do even better this year!

First up is a Garden Work Day scheduled for Saturday, April 28, starting at 9:00 AM. (Rain Date will be May 5) We hope to:

1. Mulch around the fence to keep the weeds down.

2. Rake the garden (it will already be rototilled) and start to put down the black plastic.

3. Plant the cold crops - broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes.

COME ONE, COME ALL!!

EMMAUS GARDEN CLUB

TREE DEDICATION

The Emmaus Garden Club is donating a native cultivar to the church, called Rising Sun redbud tree. The tree will have purple blooms in spring; and then the leaves transition from dark green, to pale green, to yellow, to bronze orange. At maturity it will be about 12 feet tall. It should require little care.

The planting spot was agreed upon by the club leadership and members of the Building & Grounds Committee of Faith Church. The tree will be planted prior to the dedication by Herbeins.

On Arbor Day, April 27th @ 2:00 PM, the tree will be dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Nicholas, who was a longtime member of the club. The Garden Club invites any who would like to be present at the ceremony, as well as to the cookie reception to follow. Heather Nicholas will be here. The club asks that those planning to attend, to RSVP to Faye Shuler at [email protected].

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

Using “The Wired Word” curriculum, we will have a brief synopsis of a news story, followed by probing questions and a time for confronting the

issue with scriptures and hope. We gather in room #7 (Brick Classroom) 15 minutes after the end of the worship service.

Today – “Ordinary Citizens and Nonprofits are Major Contributors to 25-Year Crime Decline.” Consider:

Words are powerful and creative, so much so that Rabbi Abraham

Heschel once said, "words create worlds." Recent restrictions on communication in Iran give us an opportunity to reflect on the power

of words -- both human and divine -- to influence individuals, events and the shape of the world around us.

Words play a significant role in protests, political campaigns, reform

movements and religious revivals. When have you seen the world shaped by the power of words?

FELLOWSHIP

Has anyone noticed how popular the coffee bar in the Narthex has become? Many people seem to be enjoying a jolt prior to church. That is great! Just another way of sharing God’s grace. The trouble is that we like to share God’s grace, but He counts on us to do the footwork. No matter how much I thank God for my morning coffee, He has yet to make it for me. I always have to set the timer and measure it all out, the night before.

Fellowship is an important aspect of life at Faith. It makes folks feel comfortable and welcome. It really is what some find attractive about our church. The trouble is, this takes work. With lives getting busy and schedules ever changing, it becomes increasingly more difficult to pull off all these acts of kindness. I for one receive great joy from service work. It’s how I have gotten through some miserable times in my life. It is a healthy choice and benefits others as well as myself.

The Fellowship Committee needs members. You don’t have to do it all. You do not even have to do anything. We may just need an idea or help with a sign-up sheet; someone to write or send a letter, or drop off a flier. Whatever you can do, it will make you feel a part of something and that always feels good.

We have lots of activities planned in the future but we need help.

More picnics. Trips to local concerts, sporting events, plays.

See Jesus at Sights and Sounds, road trips, Fires on Friday. Sponsor events, movies, concerts on the lawn. Movies after dark.

Join with other local churches for Christian Conversations and Coffee. Community dinners.
