Rev. Thomas Harries Worship Services at 8:30AM & 11:00AM

Sunday School & Bible Classes (all ages) at 10:00AM

Our Mission: To share God’s love in Jesus Christ by word and deed.

We Warmly Welcome You to Our Worship Services: We welcome all visitors and pray that our wor-ship will provide an opportunity for you to expe-rience God’s love. We invite you to return and share in our mission and ministry for our Sav-ior.

Attendance Registration Books: Please fill out the attendance registration book found in the hymnal holders on the backs of the pews and chairs. Print neatly using complete name and address. Pass it down your row; after everyone has filled it out, return it to the center aisle to be collected by the ushers.

Holy Communion: We proclaim that the body and blood of Christ are present with the bread and wine in the Sacrament for the forgiveness of sins and recommitment of our lives. Those able to examine themselves, accept Jesus as their Savior, confess their sins, and acknowledge his true presence in the Sac-rament are welcome to partake. Holy Com-munion is offered with both common and indi-vidual cups. If you desire the common cup, wait for the server to bring it. The common cup is filled with wine. The individual cups also have wine, except for the inner ring of cups in the serving tray, which hold white grape juice. Gluten-free wafers are available. Be sure to ask as you are being served. If you have ques-tions, please speak to the Pastor. If you would like assistance to the altar during commun-ion, speak to an usher.

Fellowship Between Services: Please join us for refreshments and socializing in the Activity Center. Thank you!

Infant Care Room: An infant care room is located in room 218 with additional changing tables available on the sanctuary level in the family and men’s re-strooms, in the women’s restroom located in lower level, and in the women’s restroom on the same floor as the Activity Center. Please speak with an Usher if you need help or addi-tional information. Sunday School: Visitors: If you are visiting today and your child would like to attend Sunday school, please bring the child to the sanctuary to be directed to the appropriate classroom.

Special Needs: Visual: Large print folders and audio services are available. Hearing: Hand-held amplification receivers with ear pieces are available at the usher's ta-ble. Deaf and Hard of Hearing attendees of the early service are encouraged to follow the American Sign Language (ASL) translation of the liturgy as provided by volunteers of the parish's Deaf Ministry. Mobility: Spaces in the center aisle next to the short pews in the sanctuary are reserved for wheeled devices. One space immediately next to the wheeled device is reserved for family/friend. In addition, two wheelchairs are availa-ble for use in the building. One is located on first floor of the west accessible entrance near the elevator; the second is located in the coat rack area of the narthex near the sanctuary.

Please ask an usher to assist you if needed.

PRELUDE WORD OF WELCOME OPENING HYMN Hymn 578 “Thy Strong Word” vs 1-3 CONFESSION and ABSOLUTION page 203 INTROIT Psalm 112:1-9 P: Praise the Lord! Happy are those who fear the Lord, who greatly delight in his commandments. C: Their descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. P: Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. C: They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright; they are gracious, merciful, and righteous. P: It is well with those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice. C: For the righteous will never be moved; they will be remembered forever. P: They are not afraid of evil tidings; their hearts are firm, secure in the Lord. C: Their hearts are steady, they will not be afraid; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes. P: They have distributed freely, they have given to the poor; their righteousness endures forever; their horn is exalted in honor. All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. KYRIE AND GLORIA IN EXCELSIS page 204 COLLECT OF THE DAY O Lord, keep Your family the Church continually in the true faith that, relying on the hope of Your heavenly grace, we may ever be defended by Your mighty power; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center

Announcements for February 9, 2020

Call Notes - learn more about the call process for our new pastor!

It is February and we have installed our called Intentional Interim Pastor, Pastor Martin Lee. Pastor Lee will share a majority of his month with us and a small portion of the month at home with his family. While he is here, we hope you will have a chance to listen to him in the pulpit and share a cup of coffee together at adult Bible study. Most importantly we want you to visit with Pastor and share your thoughts about our mission and ministries at Imman-uel! Pastor is scheduling 45-minute conversations beginning February 18, Tuesday – Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and 4:30 – 8:00 p.m., as well as Sunday afternoon. To schedule a visit with Pastor, you may sign up either on the paper sign-up sheet by Pastor Lee’s office; or you can contact Leslie Traylor at the church office, 843-0620, or email her at [email protected]. Many couples have visited with Pastor and many families have as well. The important point is that Pastor is learning a lot about our congregation. He is learning about our past, wrapping his arms around our present and preparing to present with us…our future! It sounds like a lot, but Pastor makes it very easy. Once you schedule your appointment, Leslie will send you a list of talking points to start the conversation. It is wonderful to hear his perspective on challenges and opportunities brought to him. Please share your thoughts and invite others to join with us in this first phase of our Intentional In-terim Ministry! For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God. - John 3:34 In God’s Name! The Call Committee

DEAF MINISTRY announces the curriculum for its 10-minute ASL mini-classes immediate-ly following the Sunday early worship service in the Library (Rm 223). For the months of January and February, it will be how to recognize signed: 1. Numerals 0 through 9 (1st Sundays). 2. Liturgical units such as "chapter," "verse," "page," and "hymn" (2nd Sundays). 3. Liturgical terms such as "Old Testament," "New Testament," and "Gospel" (3rd Sun-days). 4. Review of all the above (4th Sundays). We'll repeat them in February in case people miss one or more classes in January. And they're so short that you won't even miss out on fellowship/Adult Bible Study between wor-ship services! Plan now to check out one or all of this ASL mini-classes. VBS PLANNING We'll begin planning for VBS in March, and thankfully, we have a lot of helpers and people willing to do most of the main jobs. We would love for someone to take over as the coordinator. This mainly involves communication with all helpers. If you are in-terested please let Kristel Lewis or Beth Dwyer know. THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS FOR 2019 can now be donated to a charity of your choice (hopefully Immanuel Lutheran). These funds are allocated to apply to our mortgage and we are working hard to pay off our loan by the end of this year. If you do not allocate your Choice Dollars for 2019, they go away after March 31, 2020. Please consider Immanuel in your allocations. Thank you. DILLONS CARDS Our church received $127.36 from the Dillon’s reward cards for the peri-od October – December, 2019. This is calculated on 31 households for this period. This amount is also applied to our mortgage. Your rewards card must be linked to Immanuel for our church to receive these dollars. If you have your card linked correctly to our church, Immanuel will print at the bottom of each receipt. If you have not linked your rewards card, you can accomplish this by going to Dillons.com. Thank you. GENEROSITY THOUGHT Matt. 5:17 – “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” We cannot keep the Law of God perfectly. We are sinners. For us to be saved, Jesus had to fill up the Law in our place. Now the threat of the Law is abolished, and the Law itself is upheld. For in Christ now we desire to fulfill the Law and to live out a godly Christian life. This is precisely be-cause we are so full of thanksgiving toward God for His salvation in Christ.
