Going in the Deep End (Starting the Plan)

1. Get out 4 pieces of notebook paper2. Write out the headings for your report on a separate sheet of paper (1 heading/page)3. Fill in your own thoughts underneath4. Tape or rewrite notes onto that page

• Avoid This and That—they are unclear and lead to serious confusion & miscommunication

• Use citations in your draft (and outline)– Coulter pass out APA cheat sheet– Use the owl website– Use your book

Paramedic Method—How to Write Clearly

1. Circle the prepositions2. Circle the forms of “is”: Is, am, am be, been3. As “who is kicking who?” (Subject verb)4. Put the “kicking” action in a simple active verb 5. Check your answer—count the number of

original words and then double check that you have fewer than you began with. (good to shoot for a minimum of ¼ shorter if not more while still retaining the meaning)
