“In our global economy, employers are looking for
people who not only understand the international
world of business, but can converse in differentlanguages and understand different cultures.”
Assessment Methods - what to consider?
Terminal Exams• All assessment- 100% of marks
counting towards final grade come from final exam papers.
• These qualifications include the core of English (Lan and Lit), maths and science.
Mixed• Some assessment based on
exam papers but other marks available for Non Examined Assessment NEA (previously referred to as coursework).
• These qualifications include BTECs and some of the GCSEs.
Both are equally challenging but in different ways (independent research and meeting deadlines v revising)
All option subjects lead to a Level 2 qualification- they are all worth the same
Science
Combined• The combined science
qualification is worth twoGCSEs.
• It involves the study of units in biology, chemistry and physics.
• You gain two grades for example 5-5 (two grade 5s) or 4-5 (a grade 4 and a grade 5)
Separate/Triple• This is the study of 3 GCSEs.
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics
• You will be awarded a grade in each subject.
Much of the content is common for both science routes.
Science continued/
• Everyone starts the same units of work (for either route) as these are the same for both.
• Everyone spends the same amount of time studying science in Y10.
• During Y10 teachers will assess which route will be best for each person.
• If you study the combined science in Y11 you will have fewer periods of science. These periods will be used to support your learning in English and/or maths.
• Talk to your science teachers for more details.
Thank you again for listening
Please remind parents/carers about tonight’s information evening.
