End of Year Celebration Assembly Darren is Back! Mr Darren Percival has confirmed and honoured
his promise from last year to return to our Year 6 Celebration Ceremony as our 2014 Guest Speaker at our ‘Year 6 End of Year Celebration Assembly’.
Darren Percival has achieved an outstanding reputation in Australia as an accomplished entertainer, recording artist and musician. Those of you who attended the assembly last year will know what great performance and speech he gave our students.
I spoke to Lyndon Davis on Tuesday who said he would be happy to perform the ‘Welcome to Country’ at our End of Year Assembly again. Lyndon has children and family at this school and we always appreciate his support and time from his busy schedule. Lyndon is an inspiration to all children in our school.
Prep Enrolments Our numbers are looking strong for Prep in 2015 and a large number of parents and future students have been attending our Pre Start Sessions on Wednesday mornings at 9:15am. Next week’s session is titled “Getting Ready For School’ and is being run by Mrs Thomson. A parent work shop on our ICT’s will also be offered. All staff involved are doing a great job in organising these sessions for our community. Please contact the office for Prep enrolment forms for 2015 or if you want more information.
Lion King Some very lucky students attended a performance of the Lion King yesterday. I have spoken to a number of very excited students today who enjoyed the experience saying it was ‘awesome’. Thank you to Mrs Emerson and Mrs Guest for organising and accompanying the students. Even the trip home was exciting as they followed a large storm cell. A special mention to Karyn who ensured parents were kept in the loop about their children. Well done to all involved.
Have a great week Rob

NAMBOUR STATE HIGH SCHOOL YOUNG PINNACLE
SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2015
The program has been operating for 6 years and is designed to provide enrichment opportunities for bright and highly motivated students in Years 5 and 6 in 2015. Young Pinnacle Scholars will participate in a number of challenging activities with other like-minded students.
The structure of Young Pinnacle Scholars for 2015 has changed slightly from 2014 to cater for a more rigorous program for our students. Successful applicants will participate in four (4) ‘Excellence Days’ throughout the year at Nambour SHS. The four (4) ‘Excellence Days’ will occur once per term. Each of the four days will cover a range of subject areas including Science, Mathematics, English, Study of Society and the Environment (SOSE), Information Technology, Agricultural Science, Sport and the Arts (drama/music/art). Young Pinnacle Scholars have the opportunity to access and sample subjects and facilities in a high school setting.
Please contact Nambour State High School for an application, or alternatively, you can call or email me on the details below.
Closing date for applications is Friday 28
th November 2014.

Tuckshop Tuckshop is still looking for volunteers from Tuesday to Friday, if you have a few spare moments to help our wonderful tuckshop ladies out please let them know your available time, your kind offering will be very appreciated.
Uniforms With the end of year approaching fast, it’s not too early to start organising uniforms for next year. Please get your pre orders in to Grace or Kathy in the tuck shop so you don’t miss out on new uniforms in the New Year, we also have a second hand price list in the tuck shop if you were interested in getting some preloved uniforms.
Fundraising The P and C are currently looking at our fundraising schedule for next year. Fundraising is vital for us to be able to provide items for the students like the music shirts and sports shirts etc, and your support is necessary for us to be in a position to provide these. If you have any preferred fundraisers that you would like to see through next year that may increase our support throughout the school please send us an email [email protected] or drop in a note to Karyn in the office and we can add it to our list.
Next Meeting We will not be meeting now till early February, a date will be posted in the next newsletter and on our facebook page!
Thank you, we appreciate the time and support we have received by all the families, staff and community throughout the year, and look forward to working with you all again soon.
Thanks Yandina P and C

Last week, from Wednesday to Friday, the
Grade 4s, 5s, and 6s from Yandina State
School travelled by bus to Thunderbird Park on
Mt Tambourine as our school camp destination.
It was a 3 hour trip but about 20 minutes after
we left the school one of our tyres blew out
and we had to turn around and go back to the
depot at Woombye and get it fixed. After that
we were back on the road and within what felt
like no time at all we were unloading the bus
and dragging our bags up the hill to our
bunkhouses.
When we arrived and had our cabins set up, we
met in our “hangout room” or the Sapphire
Room and we were told our activity groups.
Our group was meant to go to Archery first,
but because we were late we went straight to
Thunder Egg Fossicking in the world’s oldest
thunder egg mine. Then we had afternoon tea
and had a swim in the pool. It was freezing and
disgustingly green and filthy!! After our dinner
of lasagne, salad and garlic bread we played
Battle Star. There were 4 planets: Mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune plus Earth and Death
Star. All the planets’ oxygen was being stolen
by Darth Vader and taken back to Death Star.
The only planet that had oxygen was Earth.
Earth was one of our helpers and Darth Vader
was another one of our facilitators dressed in
black so he could hide easily. We had to sneak
past him and take some oxygen back to our
planets. It was a great game and everyone had
fun.
The next day, straight after breakfast, our
group did the Survivor Mud course. It wasn’t
that great and I got bored after the first couple
of laps. After that we went down to the creek
and washed ourselves off. Then we got
changed and went to lunch. Our next activity
was Bush Survival. We had to build and light a
fire, create a shelter and treat a fake snake
bite. Then we had free time for a while before
dinner. Afterwards we went to the Sapphire
Room for our Movie Night. Before the movie
started all of the Years 6s did their skits. Some
were not so funny, some were funny and
others were hilarious. Then we watched the
movie Wreck-It Ralph. When that ended we got
ready for bed. The girls next door were being
so loud that we couldn’t fall asleep. Eventually
we did and we had a good night’s sleep.
On the last day of camp, all the girls in my
cabin started packing as soon as we got up.
Our room was spotless by the time we went
down to breakfast. Because our activity group
didn’t get to do Archery on the first day we did
it before we left. Mrs Mac was the best at it but
in the shoot-off she didn’t have her lucky bow
so she completely missed the target. After we
finished Archery we went down and met the
rest of the groups and we went to the
Predators & Prey Reptile Show. When that
finished we had our last lunch at the camp.
Then we had to drag our bags back down the
hill and load them onto the bus. Then we
boarded the bus, caught our last glimpses of
Mt Tambourine and began the long trip home.
After a boring ride, as we rounded the bend
into School Road everyone let out a huge cheer
and started getting excited. Some were excited
to see their families, some because it was
Halloween and others for many different
reasons.
Overall it was a great camp and one of the best
I’ve been on. I think everyone thoroughly
enjoyed themselves and had a lot of fun. The
combination of comfortable sleeping spaces,
enjoyable activities and tasty food makes
Thunderbird Park a great camping destination
for all the family.
