YCMU PERMACULTURE PROJECT PROPOSAL December 2014 The Cahaya Mutiara Ubud Foundation Permaculture Project Creating an Organic Permaculture garden to produce 100% of our food by 2016. The purpose of this project is to promote and implement systems for food safety, reliability and health. As a community foundation it is of utmost importance to have full control over the food we consume. This project will not only benefit our community but anybody who may visit the foundation, as we share our knowledge and understanding of organic food and permaculture systems. We believe this knowledge of sustainable agriculture is a gift that must be shared with everyone, and through our community we can do this very effectively. Time Frame, Structure and Maintenance This project will be based on our permaculture model. This model ensures maximum efficiency that will require daily maintenance. One full time gardener will be hired by the community and a continuous rotation of helpers will be assigned tasks as part of our volunteer program. It is estimated that the project will be complete within 12 Months time. The greater portion of the area will be accessible by wheelchair so the community can be involved in the Project and be integrated in the over all experience. Why Organic YCMU Strives to better the livelihood of each of its members. Eating clean organic produce free of chemical pesticides and fertilizers is crucial to maintaining good health especially for the physically disabled. This is a preventative approach to health and sickness as apposed to curative. Live Stock Animals are an essential part of the Permaculture; cow and pig manure can create large amounts of methane gas that can be contained and used to fuel generators and stoves, among other things. Additionally after this phase the manure will provide a constant flow of top quality fertilizer crucial for the enrichment of the soil. Ducks and Chickens are essential as a form of pest control, and produce quality eggs, are a great source of protein and will provide much needed nutrients for the fish. The nourished pond water will then be used to hydrate the Vegetable Garden beds, Closing the circle at its finest.

YCMU PERMACULTURE PROJECT PROPOSAL

December 2014

The Cahaya Mutiara Ubud Foundation Permaculture Project

Creating an Organic Permaculture garden to produce 100% of our food by 2016.

The purpose of this project is to promote and implement systems for food safety, reliability and health. As a community foundation it is of utmost importance to have full control over the food we consume. This project will not only benefit our community but anybody who may visit the foundation, as we shareour knowledge and understanding of organic food and permaculture systems. We believe this knowledge of sustainable agriculture is a gift that must be shared with everyone, and through our community we can do this very effectively.

Time Frame, Structure and Maintenance

This project will be based on our permaculture model.

Why Organic

YCMU Strives to better the livelihood of each of its members. Eating clean organic produce free of chemical pesticides and fertilizers is crucial to maintaining good health especially for the physically disabled. This is a preventative approach to health and sickness as apposed to curative.

Live Stock

Animals are an essential part of the Permaculture; cow and pig manure can create large amounts of methane gas that can be contained and used to fuel generators and stoves, among other things. Additionally after this phase the manure will provide a constant flow of top quality fertilizer crucial for the enrichment of the soil. Ducks and Chickens are essential as a form of pest control, and produce quality eggs, are a great source of protein and will provide much needed nutrients for the fish. The nourished pond water will then be used to hydrate the Vegetable Garden beds,Closing the circle at its finest.

Rain Water Catchment

The water Catchment system to store rain water and distribute it evenly throughout the property and as a reservoir for the dry season.

Grey Water Management

Shower and Tap runoffs (Grey Water) can be processed through a Grease trap and Reed bed Filter to then be the main source of water for the fish pond.In this way, No water will be wasted.

How A Reed Bed Works

Cow Shed:The Cow's manure will provide a constant high quality fertilizer which is crucial for the garden.

BIOGAS PLANT

Biogas is produced by processing residual waste from livestock (dung, manure and uneaten food), food production (fruit and vegetable waste, residues from meat, fish and dairy processing, brewery waste, food waste and much more) . By constructing biogas power plants, agriculture assumes an important contribution to supplying energy from renewable resources as well as to the disposal of organic wastes. Digestates are produced as a by-product of biogas manufacturing, which can in turn be used as high-quality Composting. The implementation of the Recycling and Waste Management Act is perfectly

implemented with the construction of rural biogas power plants from an economic and environmental perspective.
