YEAR 11 Revision Plan

A step-by-step guide on how to

plan your revision

Nurturing today’s young people, inspiring tomorrow’s leaders

Assalaamu Alaykum,

All of you secured a CAG in Urdu and/or French/Arabic and/or Art during Year 10, and will now

complete final exams this summer in:

• English Language

• English Literature

• Mathematics

• Combined Science or Separate Sciences

• Geography or History

• Business Studies/ NCFE PE

• Computer Science/ Creative iMedia

Therefore, it is vital that the next few months go well if you are to complete your GCSEs success-

fully. The following information provides advice on maximising success in each of the subjects

that you will complete this year.

General Advice (for all subjects)

• Attend all lessons every day (attendance is a key determiner of success in the final four months).

• Attend lessons punctually (don’t wander the corridors – get to lessons, it all adds up) with homebases, transition time to lessons should be minimal.

• Use the revision plan which follows on in the booklet.

• Build in breaks and then stick to the revision plan.

• It’s a good idea to pair up with a friend to undertake revision together. (COVID guidance)

• Be organised – make sure you complete all homework on time, bring the right equipment to every lesson and bring all the revision guides that you need.

• Attend all interventions – lunchtimes, after school, weekends and holiday interventions.

• Manage emotions/stress.

• To make learning easy, learn it, teach it to someone, re-learn it.

• Use online resources effectively including Microsoft Teams, Hegarty Maths & Century AI. Key Changes to Exams The Government has confirmed that GCSE, A level and vocational examinations will go ahead in summer 2021. New measures will be introduced to help ensure pupils receive fair grades that reflect their ability. In summary:

• The start of the summer examinations will be delayed till 7th June to allow for three more weeks of preparation.

• There will be more generous grading, in line with the record number of good grades award-ed in 2020.

• Pupils will be told in advance (in late January) which topic areas will be tested in their exami-nations.

• In some examinations, pupils will be provided with support materials (e.g. formula sheets) so they have less content to memorise.

• A set of contingencies will ensure all pupils receive a qualification.

• If a pupil misses examinations due to self-isolation, but sits at least one paper for the sub-ject, they will receive a grade.

• If a pupil misses all the papers for a subject, they will be able to sit a single contingency ex-amination paper for the subject in July, so that they can still achieve a grade.

Over the next few months, our teachers will continue to work hard to help all pupils to achieve the best possible grades. To help your son/daughter, please encourage them to:

• attend school every day (unless required to self-isolate)

• participate fully and actively in online lessons if they are isolating at home

• if isolating, make high-quality notes for subsequent revision

• catch up on tests that may have been missed due to self-isolation, on return to school

• attend all intervention sessions, one-to-one support and holiday/weekend classes that teachers offer

• start revision early for the summer exams take every practice exam seriously (particularly the mock exams over the next few weeks) and

act on the feedback given by teachers.

Why are exams important? What’s the point of revising for them?

Well one reason is that, for the first time in over 10 years of education, you will sit exams that

mean something for you. This is even more important as there has been no opportunity to sit an

exam in Year 10 due to COVID. When you entered primary school, you did not sit exams to get

in. When you came to Tauheedul Boys, you did not need exams to be allowed to study here.

(Yes, you did exams at the end of primary school – but really that was to judge the quality of

your school. After all you didn’t get a SATs certificate did you?)

However, the exams that you sit this summer will matter - for you. They will decide whether you

get to go on to study the A Level, BTEC or Apprenticeship course that you want and, ultimately,

whether you enjoy the career of your choice.

So these exams are crucial. Not just to determine what you do next, but to decide what you will

be doing in another 10 years’ time. Doors of opportunity will open or they will close.

So that you do well in these exams, your teachers will work very hard over the next few months

to deliver the learning, guide you on your revision and give you feedback on your practice ex-

ams. In addition, your parents will free you up from the housework, encourage and praise you

do well and pray for your success.

However, there are two things that your parents and your teachers cannot do for you. They can-

not revise for you and they cannot sit the exams for you. Over the next four months, we want

you to take personal responsibility for your grades, work hard in each and every lesson and put

the time in to revise at home. At this time, it is recommended that you spend time revising on

2 subjects if you attend Madrassah on a weekday and 3 or 4 subjects if you do not attend

Madrassah on a weekday and 5 subjects on a Saturday and 5 subjects on a Sunday. Each ses-

sion should be 45 minutes in length.

To help you to revise, each of your teachers have designed this revision plan for you. This will

advise on what you should revise, how many times per week, what materials to use when revis-

ing. Your teachers will also provide you with revision resources (mind maps, practice papers,

flash cards etc) and also upload resources on Microsoft Teams. In addition, online platforms

such as Century AI/ Hegarty should be used. But, and I am repeating myself, they cannot revise

for you. So, no excuses, it’s over to you!

I pray that the Almighty inspires you to work hard over the next few months, make the neces-

sary sacrifices and strive to do well in the exams. And rewards you fully for your efforts, Ameen.

‘Tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today’

1. Dua-Ask the Almighty. All success begins with the Almighty . “And your Lord says,

‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you’” (Quran 40:60). God is always there to hear

our pleas and to seek help from for our difficulties. At every turn, at every point,

especially when struggling to understand a unit of study or subject we struggle

with, make Dua. Turn to Him and ask Him directly. He knows all, but saying your

Duas in a way that are relevant to you will ease some of your stress.

2. Make dua yourself firstly and ask others.

3. Istigfaar-repentance. Increase our piety/spirituality. The prophet (pbuh) has

mentioned that constant reading of Istigfaar removes difficulties and problems. It

provides solutions to our problems. There are numerous stories about scholars

reading Istigfaar when they could not resolve a problem and upon reading numer-

ous times the Lord resolved the problem.

4. Repeat Istigfaar during exams.

5. Five daily prayers. Praying our Salah will help us in all situations. The Almighty has

told us to seek assistance through salah.

6. Tahajjud (The night prayer)- The benefit of getting up right before dawn is that it’s

one of the best times to make Dua. The Prophet said, “Our Lord descends each

night to the nearest Heaven when only the last third of the night remains, and says:

‘Is anyone praying that I may answer him? Is anyone seeking forgiveness, that I may

forgive him? Is anyone asking, that I may give to him?’, and this continues until

dawn” (Tirmidhi). If a person finds it difficult to wake up before the beginning time

of Fajr, then he may read before going to bed. Try to read as many 2 rakats possible

with dua at the end.

7. Make Dua for others-the Almighty makes it easy for you and for them. The Al-

mighty will appoint an angel to say Ameen and IA the dua will be accepted.

8. Time management-Time management is key to success. Time management is life

management. One should learn to have ‘no electronic devices time’ in order to de-

velop his concentration and learning ability. So avoid distractions such as using

phones and space your revision into manageable chunks.
