LO. To identify the features of a non-chronological report

We are spending this week learning about non-chronological

reports.

A non-chronological report is a text which is not written in time

order.

They are normally non-fiction texts which give information on a

subject or event, without referring to the order in which things

happen.

Watch me talking about this work Here's a link.

Attached to the assignment are two non-chronological reports

for you to read.

There are 2 Bronze, 2 Silver and 2 Gold.

As you are reading them, look for the different features.

Features of a non-chronological report.

1. An eye-catching heading in a large font

2. An introductory paragraph

3. Text split up into paragraphs and each paragraph is on a

different aspect of the subject.

4. Sub-headings for each paragraph

5. Usually written in present tense

6. Pictures of the subject

7. Captions under each picture to explain what is in the

picture.

8. Diagrams with labels

9. Lists of facts sometimes with bullet points.

10. Boxes containing interesting individual facts to grab the

attention of the reader.

11. Subject specific vocabulary (words only used when talking

about that topic) often in bold.

12. Conclusion – reminding you what the report was about.

Remember you can type directly onto the document and return it

to me through assignments.

LO. To recognise unit fractions.

We are going to be learning about unit fractions today.

A fraction is a part of a whole number, and a way to split up a

number into equal parts. It is written as the number of equal

parts being counted, called the numerator, over the number of

parts in the whole, called the denominator. These numbers are

separated by a line.

A unit fraction is any fraction where the numerator (top

number) is 1.

Watch the video and pause and do the activities when you are

asked to.

off. On Question 4 – draw the shape and then colour in the

LO. To investigate a healthy diet

Today we are thinking about healthy diets and what we need to

eat to stay healthy. Lots of people think that some foods are

good for us and other bad for us. After this lesson, you will

understand that this is not the case and we need to eat lot of

different types of food to remain healthy.

You are going to spend some time today researching this topic.

The subheadings we will be looking at are:

carbohydrates

protein

fat

water

vitamins and minerals

It will really help you with your work tomorrow if you found some

information about each of the things mentioned above.

On assignments there are some documents for you to look at.

LO. To use sub-headings

Today we are going to organise the information you found yesterday.

We are going to sort the information you found into different sections. Each

section will need a different sub-heading.

If you found it difficult or were unable to do the research yesterday,

here are some notes for you to use.

Research notes

A Sub-Heading is a mini-headline given to a paragraph within a main piece of

writing.

Most of your information should fit into these sub-headings. (don’t worry if

some things you found don’t fit!)
