Week 5
Read the table below.
What are some issues you think should be changed in the constitution?
Write some tweets below.
Different forcesForces can be contact or non-contact. Contact forces occur between two objects that are touching.
Non-contact forces occur in the area around an object. They are also known as ‘field forces’.
Gravity is a field force. You don’t have to be in contact with the Earth to experience gravity.

What is gravity?Gravity is a force of attraction that occurs between any two objects.
However, it is only really noticeable when at least one of those objects has a very large mass – like the Earth.
Gravity is the force that pulls everything towards Earth.
The force of gravity you experience on a planet depends on the size of the planet – a bigger planet produces a bigger force of gravity.

The force of gravity on the moon is about one sixth of the force of Earth’s gravity because the moon is so much smaller. That’s why you can jump higher on the moon!

Mass and weightMass and weight are two words that are often used to mean the same thing, but they are not the same.
Mass is a measurement of how much matter, or stuff, an object is made of. It is measured in grams (g) or kilograms (kg).
Weight is a measurement of the force of gravity between you and the Earth. It is measured in units of force called Newtons (N).
A force meter uses a stretchy spring to measure weight.
Mass can be measured on a set of balance scales.

If you were to fly from Earth to the Moon, your mass (how much there is of you) would not change. Your weight would change because you would experience less gravity on the Moon.
Mass: 40 kgWeight: 400 N

The mass on the barbell is 50 kg, no matter where it is, but the girl would find it much easier to lift on the Moon or Mars.
When you stand on bathroom scales, your weight compresses a spring inside. The scale gives a reading in kg because people are more familiar with kg than N.
