27. Mental illness

They are substances that has slightly changed the

ingredient of drugs regulated by law, and similar to

narcotics and stimulants that are out of reach of the law.

Some of them are sold in stores and on internet as "legal

hearbs," "incense," "aroma." They have huge, dreadful

influence on human body by stimulating the central

nervous system, and causing symptoms such as

respiratory arrest, loss of consciousness, excitement,

hallucination, and obnubilation, resulting in death in

some cases.

28. Psychoactive substances damage your brain, respiratory tract, lungs and heart. 29. Mental illness ●Emotional instability ●Ataxia of gait (trouble walking) Psychoactive substances such as sleeping pills and mood stabilizers stimulate the central nervous system and affect mental functions. They are known as stimulants. Many psychoactive substances can be obtained from doctors with a prescription. These drugs are also manufactured and sold illegally by organized crime groups who also are increasingly obtaining drugs by vicious, cunning measures, such as threatening physicians and pharmacists.

30. Cocaine ・Mental illness ・Brain hemorrhage ・Vision impairment ・Seizures ・Perforation of the nasal septum ・Heart attack ・Respiratory failure

31. Butane gas

damages your lungs

and respiratory

tract. 32 . Paralysis of the respiratory

tract

Inhaling butane gas such as

lighter fluid and organic

solvents is extremely

dangerous. It has resulted

in many explosions and

deaths.

33The starting point of drug abuse prevention is to

educate non-users about drugs. Another fundamental key to solving drug abuse is communication. This can begin at the grassroots level at home, at school, and in the workplace and the community. We need to unite together to create an environment where we say ‘Yes to life’ and ‘No to drugs’.

40. Today, drug abuse has spread visibly across the

world to become one of the most serious social

problems facing humankind, threatening not only

human lives, but also the safety and stability of

societies and countries. At the fifty-second session of

the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, held in

March, 2009, a new political declaration, the

‘Political Declaration and Plan of Action on

International Cooperation towards an Integrated and

Balanced Strategy to Counter the World Drug

Problem’ was enacted, setting out the aim of
