Questions to Ponder

MAKE IN INDIA

HOW to…

#31 October 1, 2014

Make the intent convert into results?

Accelerate the speed of implementation?

Keep a balance in all round growth amongst the states?

Excite bureaucracy to wake up from the corrupt red taped slumber?

Involve public to believe in and contribute to the mission ‘MAKE IN INDIA’?

Neutralize the mindset of mediocrity and create an environment of higher aspirations and accomplishments?

Inject enthusiasm in the un-organized sector?

Negate pathetic education system and improve skills at a high scale with speed?

Destroy laws and procedures which holds India back?

Implement an optimized inclusive growth and corporate governance?

Avoid India getting into ‘talk-talk’ instead of ‘walk-the-talk’?

MAXIMIZE YOUR PASSION. Passion is the some total of your energy, enthusiasm, never-say-die attitude blended with love and madness for your pursuits. This is entirely your own. Can’t borrow. Can’t lend. You can certainly imbibe. Surely influence. Consistently ignite.

A

ASK FOR AND SEEK HELP. Only the seeker gets. Ideas are good but remember, “Powerful ideas are good only when they are powerfully executed.” Use your power of persuasion to seek the route ahead. Skip the shyness. People are there to help you. You will miss all the targets if you do not shoot.

K

KEEP YOUR FOCUS CLEAR. GIGO applies. Avoid investing your mental garbage or else you will be suitably rewarded. Check out. Test out. Clarity in the beginning means lesser mistakes on the go. High leverage yields are vital than the sundry lower fruits that keep hanging.

E

ENGAGE FOR A LONGER DURATION. Entrepreneurs do not run the 100 meters dash. Marathon is more suitable. The tree does not emerge when you plant a seed. It takes a lot of time. Invest in your perseverance. The initial stages are slow and painful. The elephant takes time to dance.

I INVEST IN SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE. Even if you have it in abundance, money does not make money. Know well before you get the money to invest. The right blend of knowledge and skills acts as a good insurance to ward off future surprises.

N

NEUTRALIZE NEGATIVITY. Positive results do not emerge from the negative thoughts. Whichever way you think, you may be absolutely right. Keep the cynics away. Nurture the company of positive people around. Naysayers do not become entrepreneurs. They remain stuck in their self created cocoons. Stay away.

I

INVIGOURATE PERSONAL BRAND. Your business shall one day thrive under a brand. However, You are a brand to begin with. Discover it. Strengthen it in offline and online mode. Your credibility is the key to your relationships with your bankers, debtors, creditors, customers, suppliers etc.

N

NURTURE NETWORK PROACTIVELY. Exchanging visiting cards is not networking. It may be just a first step provided you take many more steps later. How do you engage people you meet? What is their reason to remain in touch with you? How do you make their life meaningful through your products, services and general relations?

D

DISCOVER THE RIGHT PEOPLE. Hiring people, Developing them and Retaining them is becoming more and more difficult. Why should they come to you and stay with you when you are still new and yet to prove yourself? Create your own USP. Readymade people may not be easily available. Hire for attitude, Train for skills. Use empathy. Understand their aspirations and play a pivotal role in their dreams accomplishment. Even if they stay with you for a shorter while, make their stay meaningful and enjoyable. When they learn with you they will contribute with you too.

I INVOKE RESILIENCE. There would be up times and many a down times. This roller coaster is a life long cycle. Be perseverant. Keep moving. You will come out stronger each time you fall or fail.

A

ACT AS A SALES PERSON. You will remain a sales person whether you like it or not. Selling ideas, products, services etc. would remain integral to your role whenever you are interacting with the customers, employees, vendors, investors etc. Develop your ability to know “When to hold or when to fold.” Close the efforts if they don’t materialize and move on. Find a better audience to sell.

M MAKE EXTENDED GOALS. We all make goals for ourselves. Pick up 1-2 for India to which you can contribute, e.g., Teaching, Cleanliness, Social Awareness, Environment etc.

A

ACQUIRE NEW LEARNING. Learning will help you broaden your mental horizon. Be it in your own field or any other that you always wanted to delve into. This doesn’t mean doing courses. Just learn from any source – offline or online. Be hungry and thirsty for the brain food. Enjoy the nourishment it gives.

K

KEEP UP YOUR COMMITMENTS. This will enhance your credibility and make your personal brand stronger. People will believe your words and actions. No harm in bragging like Salman Khan, “Once I have given my commitment, I don’t listen to myself.”

E

ENERGISE AND ENTHUSE OTHERS. Make others play your game too. A little nudge here and a of bit provocation there may help them get started. Compliment them on their accomplishments. Praise them in front of others. Make their day. Once people start basking in their glory, they strive and thrive for more. Feel happy in igniting positivity.

I

IMPROVE YOUR DISCIPLINE. Self discipline is the need of the hour in every walk of our life. Wearing helmets to seat belts, standing in the queues, keeping the surrounding clean of the dirt we may spread etc. all starts with us. Make your discipline stronger. Walk the talk. Be the example for others.

N

NEGATE MEDIOCRITY. ‘Chalta hai’ has become a common acceptable phrase these days. Strive for more. India cannot be ‘Saare Jahaan Se Achcha…’ by celebrating mediocrity. Compare yourself with people doing your kind of a job in other parts of the world. Check your reality. Improve. Banish mediocrity.

I

INVEST IN FUTURE. In India, 65% population is under the age of 35 years. They need grooming, coaching, mentoring, guidance, teaching, training… Take up a role beyond your home. Use the repertoire of your learning, knowledge and wisdom. The more you invest in future, the more you will feel the difference besides earning the gratitude. Start today. You are already late!

N NEGATE NAY SAYERS. The doubting Thomas's are available in plenty. Close your eyes and mind from them. Believe in the power of one. You can make the difference by shutting them off. Rest assured, others will do the same too.

D

DISPLAY THE POWER OF POSITIVITY. Nay Sayers come to people who are gullible. They shun positive enthusiasts. Remember, only a lighted candle can light another candle. You will suddenly discover the infectious nature of your positive outlook and actions. Enjoy the influence.

I

IDENTIFY GLITCHES AND KEEP IMPROVING. There is nothing foolproof. Problems will occur. Mistakes will happen. Take them as learning opportunities. Ensure that you do not repeat the same mistakes.

A

ACCEPT REALITIES AND TOLERATE. The world around you will not change because you want it. The intent, The content or The pace may vary. Accept realities and work to the best you can. Believe in what the Bhagwad Geeta says, “You have a right to your actions but not on the quantum of the results…”. Tolerate enough. Patience will pay its dividends.

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.” –Michael Jordan, NBA Legendary Basketball MVP “Chase the vision, not the money; the money will end up following you.” –Tony Hsieh, Zappos CEO

“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” –Nolan Bushnell, Entrepreneur “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” –Steve Jobs, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO, Apple
