Stonehaven Golf Club overlooks the North Sea and the harbour town of Stonehaven. Just 15 miles south of Aberdeen and 5 miles from the new town of Chapleton of Elsick. It is easily accessible by road, rail and air, lying in the gateway to Royal Deeside, one of Scotland’s most popular tourist areas.

Though the 18 hole course is short (par 66 and 5103 yards), it sets a stiff challenge for all standards of golfer.

Stonehaven Golf Club has a variety of memberships available for full, five day and junior members, with substantial discounts available for all categories.

Our clubhouse provides a well stocked bar and home cooked food for you to enjoy after your round, whilst enjoying suberb views from the clubhouse.

OUR HISTORYStonehaven Golf Club was founded on Friday, April 13 1888, and the first clubhouse was opened in June 1889. The original chimney stack still stands by the 7th tee. At that time, the course had ten holes, reduced to nine a year later, and it was not until July 7 1897 that the “new” course and clubhouse on the present site was opened.

For a short time, the professional was George Duncan, who later won the Open Championship in 1920 and who played three times in the Ryder Cup team, being winning captain in 1929.

Also to grace the fairways was another (5 times) Open champion, the legendary James Braid, who played a challenge match on August 18 1906 against his nephew and twice Open Championship runner-up Archie Simpson, the professional at Royal Aberdeen. Afterwards, Braid and Simpson planned improvements to the course.

A much less welcome visitor called in August 1940, when a German aircraft fleeing home after a raid, dropped a bomb on the course only a hundred yards or so from the clubhouse. The crater it left, known as Hitler’s Bunker, remains clearly visible today and very much in play between the first and second fairways.

BECOME A MEMBERStonehaven Golf Club welcomes new members in most membership categories. As well as unlimited access to the golfing facilities at Stonehaven members have access to discounts on visitor green fees on other courses as well as access to club house facilities for functions and events.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITSUNLIMITED GOLFAs a member of Stonehaven Golf Club you have unlimited access to superb golfing facilities in magnificent surroundings. You will have access to the club’s online booking system, allowing you to book golf from the comfort of your home or office. Throughout both the summer and winter seasons there are competitions and social golfing events where you can participate. You are also entitled to discounts on visitor green fees for your guests.

GUEST DISCOUNTAs a Stonehaven Golf Club member you can invite guests to play our course for a significantly reduced rate. Savings of up to 65% are available for guests against standard visitors green fees.

CLUBHOUSE AND DINING ROOM HIREAs a member of Stonehaven Golf Club you can hire the clubhouse for your own private function at no cost other than any applicable licence fee (typically £10). So if you are holding a birthday party, anniversary party or family event, then please discuss your requirements with us. Wedding receptions can be catered for, however, a charge will be applicable depending on specific requirements.

FREE GOLF AT LETHAM GRANGE AND KINTOREAs a Stonehaven Golf Club playing member in 2017 the benefit of being able to play golf at either of Letham Grange’s courses (the Old course or the Glens course) will continue to be FREE.

REDUCED PRICE GOLF AT ROYAL TARLAIR AND KIRRIEMUIRStonehaven Golf Club members can play Royal Tarlair for £10 a round and Kirriemuir for £13 per round - Call ahead to book your tee time.

EAST COAST CONCESSIONAs a Stonehaven Golf Club member you will be eligible to benefit from the ‘East Coast Concession.’ This is a scheme whereby members obtain preferential rates as a visitor to other participating courses. Discounts of 50% on visitors green fees are applicable. Contact the participating club for available tee times under this scheme.

Participating courses are Arbroath Golf Links, Brechin Golf Club, Montrose Links, Portlethen Golf Club, Forfar Golf Club and Kirriemuir Golf Club. Simply show your Stonehaven Golf Club membership card to obtain your discount.

BARHEAD TRAVEL DISCOUNTSWe have recently agreed to an “affinity” deal with Barrhead Travel who are offering a range of discounts on holidays to all Stonehaven Golf Club members.

ASSOCIATION OF JAMES BRAID COURSES CONCESSIONThe Association of James Braid Courses is a collection of courses in Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales with one in New York, which were designed, re-designed or re-bunkered by James Braid. Stonehaven Golf Club members can enjoy preferential green fees at these courses. This list is updated each year with new member clubs. A full list of courses is maintained by Henley Golf Club.

SCOTTISH GOLF UNION (‘SGU’) MEMBERSHIPStonehaven Golf Club is affiliated to both the Scottish Golf Union (‘SGU’) and the Scottish Ladies Golf Association (‘SLGA’). As a club member you will also obtain membership to one of these organisations. You will receive a Scottish Golf Membership Card that will provide a number of benefits.

THE CLUBHOUSEThe clubhouse bar is the social hub of Stonehaven Golf Club. Take a seat and look out over the 18th green and the dramatic cliff-top scenery beyond. Relax with a cup of coffee before your round, or a few drinks at the 19th hole afterwards. You can recount stories of your earlier golfing success, or try to forget those putts that ‘got away’.

Alternatively you may wish to try your hand at snooker on our full size table. Our bar staff make all members, guests and visitors extremely welcome. There is a generous selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including an array of fine malts from throughout Scotland.

THE SHOPThe club shop is within the main clubhouse where you will find a collection of logoed clothing and gifts to remind you of your visit to Stonehaven. There is a selection of shirts, sweaters and windcheaters.

An extensive range of golfing accessories are also available including gloves, tees and golf balls - just in case you are unable to complete your round with a single ball!

One of the most neglected areas of any house is the roof, yet it is also one of the most important. It keeps us dry and if properly insulated keeps us warm during those long winter months, however, high winds, age and nature are bound to have an influence on the life of the roof.
