Your eNovativePiano Workbook

The Workbook is eNovativePiano’s integrated learning management system. Like Blackboard

or Moodle, the Workbook communicates assignment information to the enrolled students and

is a convenient way to keep all your assignments and test materials in a single place. The My

Workbooks tab on the main navigation bar is your one-stop location for creating Workbooks,

obtaining join codes, accessing Workbooks & message boards, and viewing student practice

logs.

Example 1: My Workbooks Main View

1. Creating a Workbook

Teachers can create as many Workbooks as needed within eNovativePiano. This step is

necessary to use all the Workbook features.

1. Select “My Workbooks” on the main navigation bar to create

and manage your Workbooks. (Ex. 1)

2. Select "Create New Workbook." Complete each field with the

requested information (Studio teachers: List each student as a

separate Workbook. Use the student's name as the course

title.)

Be sure that you set the course start and end date correctly

for the current term or the course will not be visible to your

students. (Ex. 2)

3. You will now see your Workbook and a ‘Join Code' on the "My Workbooks" main view. (See Ex. 1)

Example 2: Workbook Information

2. Adding Students to a Workbook Roster

Adding students to a roster allows them to view your Workbook assignments, submit practice

logs, and send/view messages.

1. Students must be subscribed to eNovativePiano to be added to your Workbook roster.

2. Give your students the join code for your Workbook (See Ex. 1). When they log in, they will see a field

where they will be prompted to enter this join code. (Ex. 3)

Example 3: Student Login Page.

You will then receive an email notification prompting you to approve each student's request to join.

To approve, go to the Workbook “details” and select “Approve.” (Ex. 4) Students will not be able to

access your Workbook or Message Boards until they have been approved.

Example 4: Workbook Details View

3. Customizing your Curriculum

Once you have created a Workbook, you are ready to customize a curriculum for your

students. There are several ways to do this.

a. Adopting eNP’s Sequenced Curriculum

eNovativePiano recommends following our curriculum sequence to ensure that all important

elements are taught to students. We suggest including all our ‘core elements’ lessons to

support the ‘applications’ that your course includes. To customize your curriculum, choose the

“curriculum” tab on the main navigation bar and follow the three steps to create a custom

curriculum that you will export to your Workbook. (Ex. 5)

P a g e | 4

Example 5: Customizing Your Curriculum

b. Adding Assignments/Lessons from a Lesson Page.

You can create a Workbook assignment from any lesson page on eNP that has a yellow “Add

to Workbook(s)" button on the top right corner. You can even select multiple

dates and multiple Workbooks when creating assignments.

1. Navigate to the lesson page you wish to assign from the "Overview" tab on the main navigation bar.

(Ex. 6)

Example 6: Assigning a Lesson to a Workbook

Page 5: Your eNovativePiano Workbook · P a g e | 6 Example 9: Indicates Lessons Already in This Workbook d. Adding/Creating a General Assignments You can also create an assignment that is

P a g e | 5

2. Select "Add to Workbook(s)" and a pop-up window will open in which you will find the following

options (Ex. 7):

Select Workbook(s): Choose the

Workbook or Workbooks you wish

assign this to.

Date Assigned: Select a start date

for the assignment.

Date Due: Select a due date for the

assignment. If you choose +Add

Date, the assignment will be

duplicated on your chosen dates.

You can also pin the assignment to

the top of the assignment list by

ticking the Indefinite box.

+Add Instructional Video(s): This

allows you to attach any

instructional video from the eNP

curriculum to this lesson. When you

do this, the added video will appear

in the media playlist on the lesson

page.

Comments: Use the text editor to add detailed instructions to any assignment using a variety of formatting options.

Save Assignment Details/Save and Return to Workbooks: The assignment will now appear in the both the teacher’s

and the student's Workbooks.

c. Adding Assignments/Lessons from within the Workbook

Example 8: Add New Lesson Button

From within a Workbook, you will see the “Add New Lesson” button. Selecting this takes you to

the eNovativePiano master curriculum, where you can view all the lessons on the site and can

add as many lessons as you wish to this Workbook. You will also be able to see which lessons

are already in your workbook. If you leave the due date ‘indefinite,’ these lessons will appear

at the top of the list of assignments in your workbook. You can edit them further from there.

d. Adding/Creating a General Assignments

You can also create an assignment that is not a part of the eNP curriculum. To create a

general assignment, select “My Workbooks” (Ex. 10). Select "Create General Assignment" and

a pop-up window will open in which you can create an assignment title and chose

assignment options for single or multiple Workbooks. You can also create a general

assignment for a specific Workbook by opening the Workbook and selecting "Create General

Assignment." (Ex. 11).

4. Editing and Organizing Workbook Assignments

a. Editing Assignment Details

Assignments can be viewed and edited in your Workbook. From “My Workbooks” main view

(See. Ex. 1) select “View Workbook” for the Workbook you wish to access. Editing options are

found in a drop-down menu. (Ex. 12)

Example 12: Assignment Editing Options Drop Down Menu

Here is a summary of the editing options found on the drop-down menu.

Edit/View details: Selecting edit/view opens a new window where you can make any changes to the assignment

(set due date or pin as ‘indefinite,’ lock/unlock, show/hide, add eNP videos, add instructions). You can also add

external resources to each assignment. (see “Uploading Personal Resources” for details.)

Show/Hide assignment: You have the option of hiding an assignment from the student view. When you choose

“hide,” the assignment will not be visible to the student until you “show” it again. Hidden assignments are greyed

out in the teacher’s Workbook.

Duplicate assignment: You have the option of duplicating any assignment. This is convenient if you wish to repeat

an assignment on different dates. To change the date or any other assignment information, you would need to

Edit/View details.

Lock/Unlock assignment: This feature is being phased out.

View Submissions: This feature is being phased out.

Delete: Deleting an assignment removes it from both the teacher's and the student’s Workbooks.

Page 8: Your eNovativePiano Workbook · P a g e | 6 Example 9: Indicates Lessons Already in This Workbook d. Adding/Creating a General Assignments You can also create an assignment that is

b. Bulk Editing of Assignments

When editing assignments, you have the option to make bulk edits – you can set due dates,

show/hide, lock/unlock, and delete. Tick the boxes of the assignments you wish to bulk edit,

then choose from the bulk actions. Remember to click “save changes” after performing bulk

editing actions. (Ex. 13)

Example 13: Bulk Editing Options

c. Organizing Your Assignments

eNovativePiano organizes Workbook assignments by due date, with upcoming assignments

appearing in bold at the top of the list in chronological order. When a due date has passed,

the assignment reverts to normal font and rotates to the bottom of the list in reverse

chronological order.

Assignments with the same due date (or pinned as ‘indefinite’) may be arranged in priority

order by dragging and dropping. Drag and Drop only works with assignments that share the

same due date or are pinned as indefinite. Remember to save any drag and drop changes.

(Ex. 14a)

A red dot to the left of an assignment indicates that you have newly added this to the

Workbook. You can remove the red dot by clicking on it. You don’t need to save this change.

Page 9: Your eNovativePiano Workbook · P a g e | 6 Example 9: Indicates Lessons Already in This Workbook d. Adding/Creating a General Assignments You can also create an assignment that is

P a g e | 9

Example 14a: Drag and Drop and Red Dot Features

You can also quickly change the assignment due date or set as indefinite using the date

picker. Simply click into the due date box to access the calendar or tick the indefinite box.

These changes must be saved. (Ex. 14b)

Example 14b: Use the date picker to make quick changes.

5. Workbooks: Reusing, Duplicating and Sharing

a. Reusing Your Workbook

You don’t have to create a new Workbook each time you

teach the same class. You can reuse a Workbook simply by

editing the dates for the new semester in Workbook settings.

But if you wish to start with a fresh Workbook, you can

duplicate your current Workbook and edit the copy. (see

Duplicating an Existing Workbook)

IMPORTANT: To reuse a Workbook so that it is available to

students, you must reset the class start date. Go to the “My

Workbooks” tab, select ‘details’ and change the course start and end dates. Remember to

save changes. (Ex. 15)

b. Duplicating an Existing Workbook

Many teachers duplicate Workbooks from previous semesters to avoid having to recreate all

the assignments every semester, or for multiple sections of the same class within a semester. A

teacher might wish to share a Workbook with a colleague or graduate assistant. You can

access the sharing/duplicating features from the “My Workbooks” tab. (See Ex. 1)

When you duplicate a Workbook, its contents are retained but a new join code is

automatically generated. Changes made to this Workbook will not affect the original copy.

IMPORTANT: When you duplicate a Workbook, be sure to go to the “My Workbooks” tab,

select ‘details’ and change the course start and end dates. Remember to save changes.

c. Sharing a Workbook

To share a Workbook with a colleague or graduate assistant, choose “Share Workbook” from

the “My Workbooks” main view, and enter the eNP username of the person with whom you

are sharing. Tick the “send email notification” box if you wish the user to receive an email

notification.

6. Uploading Personal Resources

Teachers can upload personal documents (doc, docx, pdf), and images (jpg and png) to a

resources area and attach links to external websites such as YouTube, Google Drive, and

Dropbox. These resources can be tied to a class (e.g. a syllabus), to a specific assignment (e.g.

a worksheet), or to your user account (e.g. special testing materials). You have

complimentary storage of 200MB available for this purpose. You will have an opportunity to

upgrade this limit later.

plans, etc.), select “Resources” from the “My Workbooks” list view. These resources are tied to

your user account and will not be visible to students. (Ex. 16)

b. Attaching Personal Resources to a Workbook

To add documents, images, or external links to a specific Workbook (i.e. Course Syllabus,

Course Calendar), choose the desired Workbook, then select “Resources.” The resources that

you add here will be visible to you and to your students from the Workbook when the

“Resources” link is selected. (Exx. 17-18)

Students may keep a practice log by selecting the yellow “Log Time” button on any lesson

page. They have the options of logging time in a private

log or in a Workbook log (Ex. 23). Student times are on the

honor system. Practice time is not monitored on the eNP

system. (Please note that the ‘Submit for assignment

feature is being discontinued and is not currently

functional.)

a. Viewing All Workbook Practice Logs

1. Select “My Workbooks” on the main navigation bar to access student practice logs.

2. To view all practice logs for a Workbook, select “View Practice Logs” for the Workbook you wish to

view. (Ex. 24)

Example 24: Access Practice Logs from My Workbooks Main View

You can now see all student logs for this class. Information found in this view includes the date the

log was submitted, the student’s name, the activity that was logged, and the assignment type (core

element/application). (Ex. 25a)

8. Message Boards

Using eNP Message Boards, teachers and students can post and reply to discussion topics and

can send private messages to all class members. Access message boards directly from

“Message Boards’ on the main navigation or from the “My Workbooks” main view. To view

specific class message boards, select "View Board” for that class. (See. Ex. 26a)

Example 26a: Accessing Message Boards from the My Workbooks Main View
