Jesus, the hope, renews everything. It's a constant miracle. He has not only donemiracles of healings: those were only signs, signals of what He's now doing in theChurch. The miracle of making everything new: what he does in my life, in your life,

in our life. He rebuilds. And what He builds again is precisely the reason of our hope.Christ is the one who renews every wonderful thing of the Creation, He's the reasonof our hope. And this hope does not delude because He is faithful. He can't renounce

Himself. This is the virtue of hope. Pope Francis

Iremember when I was in elementary school, the

one and only thing students prized the most in

their day was Recess. We would work so hard,

just so that we would get recess. We would work

and work in the Hope that the bell would ring. I

can now relate this innocence to what I am going to

express, the way that Hope was a medium of energy

for us to work for that ultimate but silly motive.Hope

is a feeling that each and every one of us generate

within, a feeling that what is wanted can be had or

those events will turn out for the best. I have a sea of

words to elaborate over this proposition, but would

limit myself to just two derivatives, Leadership and

Hopelessness, which would be in at most concern

to the conspicuous readers of this ePaper.

Napoleon Bonaparte has said, A leader is

a dealer in hope. A leader has to be the source

of motivation for his followers. Youth, being the

leaders of tomorrow, are thus expected to keep

this phenomenon in the most express manner.

Social change has always been based on the hope

phenomenon. We have heard Lets hope for the

best a number of times, and attitude would make

an efficient leader, which has been seconded by

    various leadership theories.

Hopelessness on the other hand has beenone of the biggest issues in the present day

scenario, as a result of which we are witnessing

a surge in the number suicides. Ive become

increasingly intrigued by the topic of hope

because, if anything is going to help me climb

out of the Black Hole of depression, its a sense

of hope. But this is not the case with everyone.

Hopelessness has turned out to be a man-hole

where the world is falling and turning bleak.

Overcoming this despairing situation would be a

great achievement for lifetime. I personally feel,

that hope is something that we must carry at all

times. Life is full of uncertainties, and without

hope we cannot sustain in this world.

It is my duty to share to everyone that Prayer

is one of the few means by which we can develop

a sense of hope. To pray, to carry faith with

utmost importance would not only bring a ray of

hope into life, but will also help us in our overall

life experiences and development. This issue

of Youth Beats focusses on this specific topic

because it is a huge topic of discussion by itself,

both in the ambits of Christian faith and virtues,

and also in general terms. I hope that this issue

enlightens you with knowledge, motivation and a

reason to Hope in life, be better Christians and

citizens in the society that we live and ought to

    continue in.

    LIVE THE

A human being has life and death before

him; whichever he prefers will be given him

    (Ecclesiastics 15:17)

Yahweh says this; Look I offer you a choice

between the way of life and the way of death

    (Jeremiah 21:8 )

Look today I am offering you life and prosperity,

death and disaster I am offering you life or

death, blessing or curse, choose life so that you

and your descendants may live, in the love of

Yahweh your God , obeying His voice, holding fast

to Him; for in this your life consists, and on this

depends the length of time that you stay in the

country which Yahweh swore to your ancestors,

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that he would give

    them(Dt 30:15-20)

Life - a gift of God

Every life is a gift of God, and it is given for the

accomplishment of its purpose. As John Scott

says, God has a purpose for every life. Our

business is to discover it and do it. It could be any

form of work in service of men.

To live the life given to us is the most effective of

the arts in the world; because human being is themost beautiful creature God has made in the world.

Creation of human being was the most beautiful and

the greatest action of God in the whole of creation.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, Life is the greatest

of all arts in the world, the one who knows to live

well is the true artist in the world. Yes, life is an

art. All arts in a way manifest a kind of internal

beauty. In the same manner life also manifests the

elements of multifaceted mysteries of the Truth,

the way and the life. It enables us to experience

these mysteries in our lives. A painter experiences

the beauty and manifests it by using colours and

brush; and a musician, in and through voice,

melody and rhythm. In the same manner human

being experiences and manifests the art of living in

and through body, mind, intellect and soul.

All our wisdom, information, knowledge and

innumerable abilities become meaningless at a

juncture where we do not know the art of living, orwhere we are ignorant of the art of systematised living.

Conception, birth, life and disintegration are natural

processes of life. But do they form the contents

of a good life? The life which does not possess

the ability to live well is not a life in its quality.

What is it that is said to be a good living? It is

the experience of presence of the soul in our body,

mind and intellect and the use of this experience

for the benefit of our own self as well as of others

in the world. Thus Plato rightly said, The noblest

of all studies is the study of what a man should be

    and how he should live.

The Promised One After their exile from

Egypt, as the years came to be, the people

of Israel without keeping alive their memory

of the Exodus and their covenant with God,

rebelled against Him and fell apart. In the course

of time, they were given out into the hands of

their adversaries in the battle fields of Syria and

Assyria (734-701). Gods wrath came upon them

as they were persecuted and oppressed by their

enemies. This is when they realize how badly

they had stumbled into the pit of immorality

and had become disloyal to their God, who

had always longed for their return. Carrying the

yoke of their burden and the bar across their

shoulders, they cried out to God, who seeing

their anguish, in His tender love promises them

a great light. (Isaiah 9.2) He promised that His

people will once again multiply, will once again

rejoice, when upon them the great light will shine. And thus He lights a candle of hope for His

children. The people of Israel could once again

hope to be saved. All these hopes were fulfilled

in Him- The Messiah, as written in the book of

Isaiah- For a child has been born for us, a son

given to us... His authority shall grow continually,

and there shall be endless peace... He will

establish and uphold the throne of David, with

justice and righteousness, from this time onward

and forevermore. Yes, a candle of hope was

lighted for us which prolongs to shine amongst

our midst. Even as we rebel against God in our

daily lives, it continues to give out light and life

to us. Picking us up as we fall with our crosses,

proclaiming His loyalty to us unto eternity, this

candle resumes to burn out for our sake. Why

then put our hope on worldly things and despair

when disappointed by them? Why then do we

stumble into darkness when hit by problems?

This is something each one of us should reflect

upon. When we have the greatest hope, do we

need to lose hope in our lives? Let us not closeour eyes to this illuminating light of hope and say

its dark but instead stand firm in our faith and put

our hopes on the right person: THE MESSIAH.

I wanted to be a soldier to protect my

country from CowardsI will kill myself

If I get a chanceI have so much to do

before I die this was a piece of

a broken statement by a wandering street

kid from Gorakhpur railway station. It was

a Cold December and the railway platform

was comparatively empty. I had an unusual

thought to share a cup of tea with a street kid

in that odd situation. I met an odd boy, wearing

shabby skirts near to the tea vender looking atthe boiling kettle. It was a hard for me to take

a decision to sit with him and offer a tea.

Finally that happened; he accepted my offer

and the few hours which I spend on the platform

waiting for the delayed train transformed my life.

It was Ashish, an 11 year boy from a 7 member

family. He was thrown to the street when he was

three and started earning from the very little age.

As a toddler he had an amazing charm to impress

the travelers through small tricks of Jumping

through the rings and singing broken songs with

an amazing rhythm of China Clay tablet pieces.

His murmuring tone was an indicator of his

life and conveyed me the message that he is

hungry, but the fire on his words and the hope

in his life made me to adore him. The tears that

came out of his eyes conveyed the hardships he

is undergoing in his life. The police officer who

looted the 50 rupees which he earned through

the toy selling made him to cry aloud. The scar

on the left cheek told me the story of an unusual

incident happened while he was selling toys in

the train. I wanted to be a soldier to protect my

    friends from these looters.

Was it a real inspiration I think he is going to

be a successful warrior in his life. He may not becrowned to be a soldier even though he will be a

real hero in his life. I understood the real meaning

of hope. He doesnt have anything to start and

he doesnt have anybody to support. He did not

blame the fate and even his own parents even

though they seem to be irresponsible.

Ashish told me to be more responsible in my life

since I have more opportunities than him and

motivated me to live a life of Hope. Lets take it

as a challenge to be a peaceful soldier to bring

the spirit of hope among those who struggle to

    live a hopeful life.

When a man desires something with a

confidence of getting or attaining it, we

can call this Hope." A life without Hope is like a

living Hell full of dejection and sorrows.

Loneliness and Depression are making more

and more people their prey today. Even you and

I may have been their victims many a times.

But there is Help is available. The help here

is not the one which the world has to offer. On

the contrary it revolves around the promises of

    God to his faithful servants.

Our Source of Hope is God

St. Paul wrote in the Romans that when a manplaces his trust in God He is filled with peace,

joy, and assurance (Rom 15:13). We can find

numerous instances in the bible where God can

    Our Hope

be seen proving His faithfulness to His people

by leading them safely and delivering them from

their worries and troubles. He will never leave

or forsake His people; because His plans are

for their prosperity and not for harming them

    (Jeremiah 29:11).

We are often let down by others be it people

or even things. Psalm 33:17, talks about a horse

which is often used as a symbol of power, as

a vain hope for deliverance; despite it being

strong, it cannot save. God warns us in Jeremiah

17:5 against placing our dependency in man,

and even terms it as a curse.

Our trust in Him is what He wants. ThroughPsalm 147:11, he tells us that when we place our

trust in Him, He is delighted. Hebrew 10:23 asks

us to rely on Him for He who promised it is faithful."

How and Where to Find Help?

We must be filled with the Holy Spirit and become

Children of God, in order to reap the benefits

of Christian life and for having protection,

    guidance, and comfort.

Such a child has the unique privilege to

interact with God without hesitation and stay

attached to Him, but this privilege is often

neglected. Let us all develop a habit to Pray!

Even while going through the darkest moments

of our life, when we feel Gods divine presence

is missing, or think that all the joys of our life

have been drained out, make an earnest prayer,

because God is present right there; He listens to

His children, and is an "eternal help in times oftrials and tribulations" (Psalm 46:1)

"He has delivered us from such dangerous

perils, and will always be our deliverance. We

have set our hope in Him and he will continue to

    deliver us" (2 Corinthians 1:10).

When people place their faith in God and in

the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, they

are also trusting upon Him for the resurrection

of their own souls. If God can be trusted uponwith our eternity, we can surely trust Him for our

    worldly cares.

As God clothes the grass of the field, He

shall also clothe us even more, for we are His

children. We should not worry about what we

shall eat or drink or how we will be clothed. The

"heavenly Father knows that we need all these"

    (Matt 6:30-32)

"Eyes have not seen, nor the ears have heard,

neither have they entered the hearts of men, the

things which God has prepared for those who

    love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9).

God should be our Hope in Difficult Times

Even if we reach what can be considered to

be our lowest point, God's word says He will

never leave or forsake us (Matt 28:20). He will

give us peace and comfort even in the worst of

circumstances, then lead us through those toughtimes, and again set our feet on firm ground.

Our God is the God of new beginnings,

and with Him nothing is impossible. We may

be young or we may be old, we ought to keep

trusting in Him because with Him it is always just

    the beginning.

Situations like divorce, death of a spouse,

and loss of health or finances, or other things

may keep haunting us all the time, but trust me

they are not bad. Trusting God in difficult times

forces us to seek His guidance, and to trust in

    Him.

It takes a lot of faith and courage to trust God

through these turbulent tides but it is worth every

effort. Choosing His path, we must be sure that

its the only path that leads to true happiness.

Isn't this a wonderful promise "...those who

hope in the LORD will renew their strength. Theywill soar on wings like eagles; will run and not

grow weary; will walk and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).

    Jesus is Our Solid Rock

Christians often find a depth of peace that

passes understanding during times of crises

and trials; times that may even drive others to

the extremes such as taking their own life. This

is the blessed comfort of the Holy Spirit whodwells in each and every Faithful Christian.

Even in the midst of the most terrible

    devastating and humiliating experiences we

can have the peace, joy, and hope, through

Him, that passes all understanding (Philippians

4:7). God's promises do not disappoint and can

be our genuine source of hope.

    Hope for Eternit

Jesus is our solid rock, and because of Him

death does not end it for us! Even when we are

carried by the angels to our glorious home in

Heaven we can know that He is with us, and that

    it is just the beginning!

In His promises we find everlasting life and

confident hope and hence, "for no matter how

many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in

    Christ" (2 Corinthians 1; 20).

"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Whyso disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for

I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God"

    Hope On !

Thirty years ago, William Lynch lamented:

We human beings, who need hope more

than anything else in life, have written little aboutit (Lynch, 1987:21). To be sure, therapists and

    theologians, psychologists and philosophers

have filled this gap since in some measure. Yet,

a curious fact remains: a much larger body of

literature exists on the luminal experience we call

despair than on the life-engendering presence

    and function of hope.

According to Greek mythology, the first woman

on Earth, Pandora, was given a box that she was

not to open under any circumstance. Too curious

to resist, she opened it, and all of the evils of

the world flew out: hate, pain, destructiveness,

starvation. When Pandora saw what she had done,

she closed the box before the last thing in there

could escape. That last thing was hope.

Hope is the belief that circumstances in the

future will be better. It's not a wish that things will

get better, but an actual belief, even when there

may be no evidence that anything will change.Hope can encompass a wide variety of beliefs --

everything from a high school student hoping for an

A in algebra to a cancer patient hoping for a cure.

Christian hope derives its enduring and living

quality out of the historical accomplishment of God in

Christ on our behalf. In the incarnation, God enteredthis world of suffering and death in loving solidarity.

In the crucifixion, Christ experienced this world in its

sin and suffering reconciling it to the Father who, in

the resurrection, inaugurated a historical process

that moves the world towards the fulfilment of the

eschatological promise. Hope is as light as a feather.

Hope keeps all of us together Hope is ubiquitous

and free of cost. Hope is the last thing ever lost. Since

history is moving towards its real future in God, one of

the presuppositions of Christian hope is the passage

of time towards Gods promised end, an end that

was already present in the world in the resurrection

of Christ. Hope is a bright shining light which keeps

darkness at the bay. Hope is gentle cold breeze on

a hot summer day. Hope is to remain positive when

going gets tough. Hope is seeking more when others

    think u had enough!

Just as God has taken up the humanity of the

incarnate Son in Christs ascension, so the believerhopes that God will take up the entire cosmos into

the Trinitarian unity of his own person so that in the

end God will be all in all (Ephesians 1:22-23).

    What's Hope

after Pandora opened the famed Pandoras Box.

According to the myth, all the misfortunes and

grievances escaped the box and become a part

of human life. Hope was the only thing present in

the box that guaranteed the presence of hope inall the predicaments that humans come across. In

mythological sense, hope is what keeps people

going under harsh conditions and crucibles.

Hope a noun that represents feeing of

expectation and desire for a certain thing to

happen; a sense of wanting something irrespective

of the odds, uncertainty and hesitation. In Christian

theology, hope is considered to be one of the mostimportant virtues of the believers. Hope is what

glorified the Holy Trinity and proves that a person

indeed believes in what is written in the Holy Bible

as well as in the eternal life promised by God to

    true believers.

Hope could be something as ephemeral as not

wanting to see someone for a brief period of time

or hoping to catch a bus ride without having to wait

for 10-15 minutes. In practical sense, hope couldbe about anything, it is a very broad term and often

used interchangeably with the word expectations. A

school child would hope for good grades or more

time for games or a set of close friends, a college

graduate would hope for a bright career or many

other things without judging them for their triviality.

Hope is an abstract thing that means expectation and

belief in something over which one has little or almost

no control. The interesting part of hope is that it is

always there with you. One cant help but hope if put

in a precarious situation. Not necessarily precarious,

even at the time of having achieved something,

people hope to make the best use of it or they hope

to do justice by that success. Also, hope piggybacks

hope i.e. if one was hoping for something good

initially but the outcome was negative, he hopes that

next time it wont be the same. So yes, hope comes

with some more hope riding on its back and I believe

there is nothing wrong with that as it helps keep thesubject in context in an active pursuit.

In ancient Greece, according to various Greek

myths, hope was the only spirit that was left
