How are we creating Shared Values?

INFRASTRUCTUREOyu Tolgoi has built lots of infrastructure in the Gobi Desert. Improvements to roads, transport and power supply are all crucial to allow the mine to operate, but are also driving big improvements

to the lives of local people. By sharing our infrastructure, local communities will have access to the South Gobi’s first international standard airport, 100km of paved road and the town of

Khanbogd will be connected to a 24 hour power supply from the mine site.

LOCAL BUSINESSESGetting goods and services locally instead of flying them in from abroad makes good business sense for Oyu Tolgoi. It also creates more jobs and allows small businesses to flourish. In 2012, we spent US$5

million on training and support to help local businesses develop and become suppliers to Oyu Tolgoi. As a result, South Gobi firms now employ more local people, pay higher wages and can

provide more goods and services to Oyu Tolgoi and other large businesses.

EDUCATIONTo build the capacity of our workforce and create the Mongolian mining leaders of the future, we need to train our workforce. We are spending US

$126 million over five years in the biggest training and education investment in Mongolian history. This will train thousands of people in a range of professions, allow the construction of new training

centers and pay for domestic and international scholarships. As well as providing us with a highly skilled workforce, thousands of Mongolian people will improve their education and skills.

In November 2012, PwC was proudly recognised as the Best International Company in 2012 by the Business Council of Mongolia at its annual renewal dinner. The award recognises our “rapid and superior corporate growth with services covering the spectrum of public accounting, tax, consulting, and capital markets”.

This award was open to all internationally financed companies in Mongolia across all sectors including finance, mining, banking and the supply sector. We believe this award reflects our commitment to developing our staff and working with our clients to develop the finance sector in Mongolia in line with international standards. PwC now has over 90 staff across all lines of service and works with the majority of well recognised companies, both local and international, in Mongolia. We are strongly committed to supporting the development of Mongolia in everything that we do.
