The Aleppo Pine is a pine native to the Mediterranean region.
It is generally found at low altitudes, it can grow at an altitude of up to 1000 m.
Family
The family Pinaceae is in the order Pinales and includes many of the well-known conifers of importance such as cedars,firs,hemlocks, larches,pines and spruces.
Trunk & Bark
It is a small to medium size tree, exceptionally up to 10 m tall. The bark is orange-red, thick and deeply fissured at the base of the trunk, and thin and flaky in the upper crown.
Leaves
The leaves, called needles ,are very slender, distinctly green and produced in pairs.
Fruits
The cones are narrow conic and broad at the base when closed, green at first, ripening glossy red-brown when 24 months old.
Flowers
